BeforeRegistration:

Werecommendvisitingthedealershipsstockyardandcheckingyourcarpriortoregistration.Once
itisregisteredinyourname,thereislittleyoucando.Checkthecarmanufacturingmonth/year,
especiallywhenbuyinginthefirstquarterofanyyear(LinktoVINDecodingArticle(ARTICLE:Find
yourcar'sdateofmanufacture(VIN))).FiatIndiawasnotoriousforsellingcarsthathavebeen
manufacturedupto18monthsearlier.Ascertainthattheyearofmanufactureiscurrent,andthe
monthisrecent.Bestwayistoaskthedealerforthe"Form22"certificate(issuedbythe
manufacturer).Youwillfindtheengine/chassisnumbersonthiscertificate,whilethemonth/year
ofmanufactureareonthe"roadworthiness"certificate(partofForm22).

Iftheodometerisdisconnected,inallprobability,theallocatedcarhasbeenusedasatestdrive
vehicle.Alsocheckforanyrepairjobs/bodydamagedamagetosomecarsisinevitableintransit
andmostrepairworkisglaringlyobvious.

IMPORTANT:Checkthetaxcalculationsonthedealershipinvoice.OverchargingforRTO/octroi/
lifetimetaxesisapopularscamatmanyIndiandealerships.Payonlytheactualchargesduetothe
authoritiesandnotarupeemore.

Preparations:

1.Confirm:thedateofdeliverywithyourdealership.Itisbesttogothereonlyafterthecarhas
beenpreparedandisready.Ifyouhaveapreferenceforaparticularday/time(forauspicious
reasons),informthesalesperson.

2.Daylight:Werecommendacceptingdeliveryinbroaddaylight,sincethedarkcanconcealalot.
Youmayalsonotgetgoodserviceintheeveningsincedealershippersonnelareinahurrytowrap
thedayup.

3.Documentation:Ascertainthatyoucarryanyrequireddocumentationwithyou.Thismayinclude
forms,receiptsetc.

4.Payments:Ifanypaymentformalitiesaretobecompleted,carryalongtherelevantPDCs/Cash
/CreditCards.

5.ThirdPerson:Itsalwaysagoodideatotakearelative/friendalongforsuggestions,
observationsandcomments.

6.Memories:Takeacameraalong.

7.Music:CarryaCD/cassetteifyourcarisequippedwithastereo.

8.Gift:Takeatokengiftalongforthesalesguy.

howeachoneoperates.Askhimtodemonstratethecarfully,andtoptobottom,inorderto
understandhoweverythingworksonthevehicle.

3.VisittheServiceDepartment:Werecommendmeetingtheservicemanagerandgettingfamiliar
withtheservicecenterfacilities.

FinalInspection:

1.Checkthecaragain:Alotcouldhavehappenedbetweenthepreregistrationinspectionand
today.Itsbesttowalkaroundthecarandascertainthatthecarissuperclean!Lookforanysigns
ofrepairwork/damagesuchaspaintdifference,dentsetc.Eventheinteriorsshouldbesqueaky
clean.

2.Checkthatalllightsandelectricaccessoriesareworkingfine.

3.Confirmthatalltheaccessoriesyouorderedarefittedonthecar.

4.Checkthatthesparewheelisfresh.Andthatallrelatedtools(spanner,jacketc.)arepresent.
Aretherewheellocks?Ifso,ensurethatthelugkeyisthereinthecar.

5.Misc:Wipers,floormatting,firstaidkit&hazardsign.

6.Whatisthemileageonyourcar?Itshouldnotbemorethana100km(orinthewhereabouts)
formostbrands.

7.Ensurethatthereisenoughfuelinthecar.Atleasttogetyoutothenearestpetrolpump.

8.Somehow,mostnewcarsaredeliveredwithoverinflatedtyresbytheshowroom.Checkthetyre
pressureandmakethenecessaryadjustments.

9.Tallyyourcar'sregistrationnumberontheR.C.Book,withthenumberplate.Dealersareknown
fortheircarelessnesshere.OneBHPianwasabouttotakedeliveryofhiscarwithdifferent
numbersonthefront&rearplates!
