Funds of knowledge is defined by researchers Luis Moll, Cathy Amanti, Deborah Neff, and
Norma Gonzalez (2001) to refer to the historically accumulated and culturally developed bodies of
knowledge and skills essential for household or individual functioning and well-being (p. 133). The
information that teachers learn about their students in this process is considered the students funds
of knowledge. Funds of knowledge is one way to help us educators connect with the child and with
their family. It is the responsibility of each us, educator to attempt to learn something special about
each child that teach. Knowing their backgrounds and relating them to teaching is one way of our
attachment to our students. With this new knowledge, they can begin to see that the households of
their students contain rich cultural and cognitive resources and that these resources can and should
be used in their classroom in order to provide culturally responsive and meaningful lessons that tap
students prior knowledge Janet Kier Lopez .
2. Does provision for play reflect childrens contemporary knowledge and experiences and
especially the technological practices they encounter in everyday contexts?
Yes, as you can see nowadays children sre exposed to technology and they are much more
literate than us. It is because they were born to a world that technology is already present. We
cannot deny the fact that they are more interactive and interested in technology. Even in teaching,
we are now integrating technology in our classroom discussion to make the discussion interactive
and fun. This also allows the childs learning easy and productive.
