LIFE AS A CHAPLAIN
Whether zooming through traffic on the back of a
motor bike or crossing a raging river on a rickety
bridge, when one accepts a call to serve as a
missionary, you never know exactly what all the
Lord will be having you do. I accepted the call to
serve as a missionary in January of 2014. My
family and I moved across the world to Hong
Kong in April of 2015. Since then, I have been
serving the LCMS servants all over Asia as the
Regional Chaplain. One of my duties is visiting
missionaries where they are stationed;
experiencing a small glimpse of what they
experience everyday. From the colossal potholes
in Papua New Guinea to the high speed trains of
Japan, I have seen much in my two years of
serving the thirty five missionaries stationed all On the back of a motorbike
over Asia. My travels are filled with delivering the
Lords Supper, house blessings, sharing Gods Word,
baptisms, confirmations, offering confession and absolution, and providing
pastoral care. It is a privilege to bring the Lords gifts to His people.

In addition to my chaplain duties, the Lord has called me to serve as pastor at

Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hong Kong. Immanuel gives opportunity to
provide the Lords gifts of Word and Sacrament to the English speaking
population of Hong Kong. More than seven million people reside in Hong Kong. Of the three million who
speak English, 230,000 claim English as their preferred language.

Since Immanuel began worshiping in 2015, we have had many visitors from wide and varied
backgrounds. From expats (short for expatriate-people who are living outside of their native country) to
locals from places like Germany, Poland, Africa, Singapore, USA, Australia, and the Philippines,
Immanuel proclaims the Good News about Jesus. We welcome everyone to join us and worship the risen
Lord Jesus Christ.

As a chaplain and pastor, much of what I do is confidential. Many of my responsibilities

mirror those of a parish pastor in the states: preaching, teaching, and visiting hospitals
and jails.

It is an honor to bring the absolute free forgiveness of Jesus Christ where ever I am.

We, though many, are one body in Christ, and
individually members one of another. Having gifts
that differ according to the grace given to us, let us
use them.(Romans 12)
Providing spiritual care to others will help them serve the Lord
where He has called them and in what positions He has called
them. Working together, with your support, we are sharing the
Good News of Jesus Christ to a region of the world which
remains in great darkness. Asia has a high number of
unbelievers, it is densely populated and it is a huge mission
field. Please pray for the missionaries and the hearts of the
unbelievers everywhere.
A bulls-eye target is placed on every one of our missionaries
and their families. They endure attacks by the devil whose
desire is to prevent the Good News of Jesus Christ from being
shared. Our missionaries need spiritual care.
Providing spiritual care is essential.
Some who go overseas as a missionary return home broken.
One of my dearest college friends (whose picture hangs in my
office), served overseas as a missionary and returned home an
unbeliever.
Please pray for all missionaries, where ever they are serving,
that the plans of the Evil One to frustrate Christs work may not
discourage them, but that the Gospel would be freely preached
to all people of all tribes and all languages on Earth.
