La Sonata de Antonio Lauro es una de sus obras ms importantes y representativas para

guitarra sola. Lauro la escribi durante los aos 1951 52, mientras estaba en la crcel como
preso poltico del rgimen dictatorial del general Marcos Prez Jimnez (1948 1958). El
compositor la dedic a Regino Sainz de la Maza. Alirio Daz la estrena en Caracas en 1961, y fue
grabada por primera vez por Ricardo Fernndez Iznaola a principio de los 70.
Antes de comentar sobre las fuentes de la sonata y abordar los aspectos directamente
relacionados con la ejecucin de la pieza, me gustara hablar de los llamados compositores de
estilo politonal influenciados por el compositor Ruso Serge Prokofiev, una importante deuda
musical que el propio lauro reconoci en aquellas obras la Sonata entre ellas que
consideraba como su obra ms personal. La necesidad del anlisis musical parece ms evidente
en una sonata, un gnero que a menudo se asocia con un mayor desafo (para intrpretes,
compositores y musiclogos) debido a su estructura ms elaborada. Luego pens que es
apropiado para mi prximo articulo revisar la teora tradicional de la forma sonata y considerar
cuan relevante puede ser ese conocimiento para la interpretacin de su obra que a su vez me
llevar a tocar un tema controvertid, es decir, el valor y las limitaciones del anlisis para el
intrprete.

(ANTONIO LAURO`s sonata is one of his most substantial and representative works for solo
guitar). Lauro wrote itt during the years 1951-52, while he was in jail as a political prisoner of
General Marcos PrezhJimnez`s dictatorial regime (1948-1958). The composer dedicated it to
Regino Sainz de la Maza. o Alirio Diaz gave the premiere in Caracas in 1961, and the piece was
first recorded by Ricardo u Fernndez Iznaola in the early 70s.
Before commentinggon the sources of the sonata and dealing with aspect more directly related
to the performance of hthe piece, (I would like to discuss the composers so-called polytonal

which Lauro himself acknowledged in those works the sonata among them which he regarded
