Equation Calculator for EAc40 CIR (11-Jan-2005)

Purpose
This calculation tool automatically solves the equations described in EAc40 CIR (11-Jan-2005), the USGBC credit interpretation
Atmosphere Credit 4 of LEEN-NC Versions 2.0 and 2.1. Use it to quickly determine whether the HVAC equipment-and-refrigeran
in a prospective LEED project comply with the alternate compliance method described in the CIR.

How to use the calculator

NOTE: You may only enter values in the turquoise-colored cells. All other entries either are calculated automatically or are fixed

1. Choose a worksheet by clicking the appropriate tab at the bottom of the Excel window. Pick the Pounds worksheet to describ
charge in tons. Or, pick the Pounds per Ton worksheet to describe the refrigerant charge in pounds of refrigerant per ton of coo

2. Type the job name in cell B2.

3. Type the location of the job in cell B3.

4. OPTIONAL: For each refrigerant type, use cells B6 through G6 to identify the equipment on this job (i.e., enter the appropri
from the equipment schedule).

5. Enter the HVAC mechanical cooling capacity, by refrigerant type, in cells B7 through G7. If multiple units use the same refri
enter the sum of their capacities.

6. Enter the HVAC refrigerant charge, by refrigerant type, in pounds (cells B8 through G8 on the Pounds worksheet) or pounds
B9 through G9 on the Pounds per Ton worksheet). If multiple units use the same refrigerant type, enter the sum of their refrig
pounds (Pounds worksheet) or the weighted average charge rate in pounds per ton (Pounds per Ton worksheet).

If the value in cell H20 is less than or equal to 100, then cell H21 will display "Yes" to indicate that the project qualifies for EA
LEED-NC Version 2.0 or 2.1, under the EAc40 CIR dated January 11, 2005.

If the value in cell H20 is greater than 100, then cell H21 will display "No" to indicate that the project does not qualify for EA C
NC Version 2.0 or 2.1, under the EAc40 CIR dated January 11, 2005. However, the project may still qualify for EA Credit 4 und
language of LEED-NC v2.0 or 2.1.

7. OPTIONAL: To provide additional information about the project, type your comments in cell A86.

8. To print the caluclation results for your records and/or as documentation for your LEED project submittal, either click the Pri
toolbar or open the File menu and select Print.

The report is automatically stamped with the date and time of the last calculation (cell B45).

If only one type of refrigerant is used, the HVAC&R systems do not comply with the formula:

LCGWP+100 , 000 LCODP100

OR
If multiple refrigerant types are used, the HVAC&R systems do not comply with the formula:

[ ( LCGWP+100 , 000 LCODP ) Q unit ] 100

Q total

RESULT
Using the appropriate equation, the final calculation equals 100.10

Based on the 11-Jan-2005 CIR for EA Credit 4, this project does not qualify.
