Teachers Progressive Ways of Teaching Using Sinugbuanong Binisaya

This study explored on teachers progressive ways of teaching using

Sinugbuanong Binisaya instruction in a multilingual classroom. The study used

the qualitative method of research employing narrative inquiry in discovering

and identifying the actual progressive ways of teaching employed by the primary

grade teachers in teaching Mathematics. The gathering of data was facilitated

through the use of triangulation method employing classroom observation,

interview and focus group discussion (FGD). The participants of the study were

the twelve primary grade teachers of Kalilangan district, specifically in

Kalilangan Central School, Kinura Elementary School, and Kibaning Elementary

School. Purposive sampling was used to identify the participants of the study.

Findings revealed that primary grade teachers utilized progressive ways of

teaching such as the constructivist, collaborative, integrative, inquiry-based and

reflective approaches in teaching Mathematics using Sinugbuanong Binisaya as

the medium of instruction. Reflective and integrative approaches were mostly

utilized by the teachers, while the inquiry-based was the least utilized. Teachers

encountered challenges on the utilization of Sinugbuanong Binisaya instruction,

progressive ways in teaching, and instructional materials. Primary grade

learners exhibited positive and negative behaviors towards learning Mathematics

using Sinugbuanong Binisaya instruction. Enhancement plan is designed to

address the challenges encountered by the teachers in employing progressive

ways in Teaching Mathematics using Sinugbuanong Binisaya instruction in a

multilingual classroom.
