Q. YO.
A. Um m m ? yo!
Those ar e the only questions I can r ead that ar e not m eant
for a hate colum n. PLEASE RESPECT M Y COLUM N! Also,
please w r ite clear ly because if I can?t r ead them , I can?t put
them in!
One m or e?
It?s sum m er , w hich m eans the m usic never stops. Sum m er jam s ar e har d to find, especially if you w er e
?bor n in the w r ong gener ation.? If you?r e a ?90s Kid,? then this is THE m ost RAD m ix tape for you!
1. It?s alw ays im por tant to star t a m ixtape str ong, w hat better w ay than ?Sm ells Like Teen Spir it?by the
iconic gr unge tr io Nir vana. This song like, totally sum s up all the like, teenage angst that com es w ith
being a teen. On a m or e ser ious and less ir onic note, I per sonally love this song, and ther e is nothing
m or e 90s than Nir vana, w hat a per fect w ay to star t an aw esom e m ixtape.
2. Next, another ver y ener getic piece that w ill r em ain stuck in your head until the end of tim e :
Sem i-Char m ed Life by Thir d Eye Blind. Nam e a m or e iconic One-Hit-Wonder. I?ll w ait?
3. Now , I know w hat you?r e thinking. These songs ar e all m ainstr eam . You?r e r ight, but that?s not
necessar ily a bad thing! Especially in the case of Say it Ain?t So by Weezer. I think this is a gr eat song
for your m ixtape because it star ts slow , and then goes fast. Kinda like, y?know LIFE.
4. Slow ing it dow n a little, as w ell as thr ow ing in a bit of a w ild car d w ould be Wonder w all by Oasis.
This is a gr eat song, w e don?t know if it?s a love song, a sad song, or w hat! It?ll also cool you dow n after
all the r ocking out you?ve been doing.
5. Basket Case by Gr een Day. Need I say m or e? Gr een Day is a band ever y #90skid w ill r em em ber , and
their m usic just doesn?t get m or e r em iniscent than Basket Case. A decade defining, feel-good song that
w ill never get old.
6. Now , an edgy song for all you folks full of REAL r age and angst. Dani Califor nia by The Red Hot Chili
Pepper s. I r eally do not like this band, in fact, I hate them . How ever , I r eally like this song and it?s a
per fect addition to any m ix. The best par t is, it?s one of those songs w her e it?s like you know it but you
have no idea w hat they?r e saying so you end up singing along like ?Califor nia
jsgshguoaehg0nnffsdim m m m jfihw uoheeehhhhh?
7. Spicing up this m ix w ith a little alter native Br it-Rock, w ould be the song Boys and Gir ls by Blur. this
is the last r eally fast r ock song on the m ix because of cour se, w hat ar e the 90s w ithout sad goodbyes.
(psst. Y2K w as totally, like, gonna happen)
8. Our second to last edition is the lovely and in my opinion under r ated; Losing M y Religion by REM .
This song is a per fect segw ay into my last song for you, and just an all ar ound solid song.
9. Lastly, but cer tainly not least-ly, Color blind by Counting Cr ow s. This is my absolute favor ite song. It?s
alter native and ver y calm ly angsty and edgy. Ther efor e, it w ould m ake a fabulous end for our sw eet
m ixtape.
If you w ant to take a listen, you can find it on Spotify, it?s titled ?90s M ixtape? and my user nam e is
gr acie_g_123 if that m akes it any easier to find.
So go, my 90s Childr en ? be edgy, m ake bad fashion choices, stick it to the m an. After all, you now
have the per fect playlist to do so.
W hy I Love Ri ver dal e
By Rachel Alper t-W isnia
Ok now , listen up, CRCAP. Br ace your self for the m ost intr iguing, per suading, factual, and inter esting ar ticle in all
of Daily Double histor y. So, her e?s the br oken dow n list of w hy I love the TV show ?River dale? so m uch.
1. It?s a m ixed genr e- This show can be classified as a myster y or a dr am a tv show. The kids in River dale ar e
tr ying to find out w ho killed the beloved Jason Blossom , w hile they car r y out r elationships of their ow n. The
r elationships face tr oubled w ater s thr oughout the show , adding a ver y dr am atic aspect to the ser ies. Fr iendships
ar e br oken, for bidden love is for gotten, new couples ar e m ade, hidden fam ily secr ets ar e r evealed, dr eam s ar e
pushed aside, people die, fr am ing occur s, and m ean bullies ar e faced in this thr illing tv show. The genr e of this
show is am azing and is the per fect com bination of a teen dr am a and a thr iller.
2. It?s based off of the Ar chie Com ics!- The Ar chie Com ics ar e a com ic ser ies that I?m pr etty sur e m ost of you
r eading this gr ew up on. I w ould r ead these in my spar e tim e and I instantly fell in love w ith the char acter s.
River dale is a televised ver sion of these am azing com ics. It br ings nostalgia to adults w ho used to r ead the old
com ics and to teens that r ead the new er com ics of Ar chie as a child. The com ic book char acter s ar e per fectly
por tr ayed in the TV show. They even dyed tw o actor s?hair to m ake it look like the com ic depictions!
3. The char acter s ar e AM AZING!- I love ever y single char acter in River dale. The per sonality tr aits and w its of
ever y char acter definitely adds a lot to the show. Her e?s a descr iption of the m ain char acter s:
Ar chie Andr ew s- A kind hear ted teenage boy w ho is conflicted w ith balancing his social and school life w ith his
love for w r iting poetr y and m usic. His m usic displays his deep, sensitive per sonality, yet he could be descr ibed as
a jock . He plays on the River dale High football team , and is offer ed the spot as team captain. He car es so m uch
about his fam ily and fr iends and w ill do anything to pr otect them . Oh, I alm ost for got. He?s extr em ely char m ing
and attr active, w hich m akes his fem ale classm ates sw oon over him at any given m om ent.
- Ver onica Lodge- M y per sonal favor ite char acter. She?s a ver y confident w om an and w ill easily snap back
at a r ude com m ent w ith a sassy r em ar k . She?s incr edibly str ong, having faced w ith the consequences of a
huge scandal or ganized by her father. Befor e she cam e to River dale, she w as a br atty, m ean, spoiled gir l,
but, in com ing to River dale, her goal is to be a better per son. She?s tr ying as m uch as she can to m ake
r ight of the w or ld, and she is. She?s ver y em pathetic and w ill do anything for anyone, even if she
per sonally doesn?t like them ver y m uch. Her fr iendship w ith Betty Cooper is so hear t-w ar m ing. She
connects w ith her a lot and car es about Betty so, so m uch. W hen facing a pr oblem , Ver onica w ill fight
back and show her r uthless side in or der to pr otect her fr iends and fam ily.
- Betty Cooper - She is a sw eet and w holesom e angel, eager to please ever yone she m eets. As tim e passes in
season 1, she gr ow s tir ed of w anting to be the per fect daughter , student, etc. Although she?s an
over achiever , she has a r ather dar k side to her , w hich is r evealed m ainly w hen one of her fr iends or
fam ily m em ber s gets hur t. She still is a ver y loving and str ong per son. She is faced w ith m any fam ily
tr oubles, especially since her m other w ill cr eate a feud w ith any fam ily-including her best fr iend?s fam ily,
the Lodges. Not only that, her sister Polly w as in love w ith Jason Blossom , the boy w ho w as m ur der ed at
the beginning of the ser ies. Betty faces all these pr oblem s w ith cour age and per sever ance, and is show n
as an em pow er ing fem ale char acter.
- Jughead Jones- A dar kly hum our ous teenager w hose biggest passion is his w r iting. He?s cur r ently w r iting
a book about the tow n, and nar r ates the show w ith his descr iptive w r iting. He descr ibes him self as an
?outsider ? to the r est of River dale, and likes to be differ ent fr om the other s. He is r ar ely seen w ithout
w ear ing his beanie, som ething he know s m ay seem w eir d. He is ver y intelligent and br ave, and offer s to
help Betty Cooper in investigating Jason Blossom ?s m ur der. He has been faced w ith m any pr oblem s
sur r ounding his dr ug addicted and abusive father , and keeps these as secr ets fr om his fr iends. He?s a ver y
myster ious char acter , w hich m akes him ver y appealing.
- Cher yl Blossom - The hear tbr oken tw in of Jason Blossom . After Jason?s death, her m ental health took a
r ocky tur n. She becam e incr edibly sad and hear tbr oken, com pletely in shock fr om the loss. She is ver y
r ich and entitled, yet shut out by her par ents, because they believe she should?ve died instead of Jason.
She is a snobby, m ean gir l to the other students at River dale High, but w e all know that inside, she is
incr edibly soft. She and Jason w er e incr edibly close, and he pr otected her fr om ever ything, including
com bining their bir thdays to hide the sad tr uth that no one show ed up to Cher yl?s separ ate bir thday
par ties as a child. She loved her br other m or e than anything, especially because she often didn?t car e
about the people at school. Although she seem s incr edibly m ean, m anipulative and cold-hear ted to m ost,
she is secr etly a ver y kind and soft fr iend. She is car ing to her close fr iends, including Josie M cCoy. She
w on?t hesitate to assist Josie in anything.
4. The actor s ar e incr edible at their job- The actor s that por tr ay the char acter s of River dale ar e br eathtakingly
talented. They exper im ent w ith their vocal tones and body language to m ake the char acter s incr edibly
believable. The em otions of a char acter ar e show cased in the show w ithout any speech or m ovem ent. The talent
of the actor s m akes this show even m or e am azing.
5. The couples!- Incr edibly cute couples ar e in this show. M y favor ite is Bughead (Jughead and Betty). The
r elationships br ing r iveting dr am a and r om ance to the show. The love tr iangle of Ar chie, Betty, and Ver onica is
obviously show n and m any other love tr iangles ar e in the show , Secr et r elationships and affair s ar e also r evealed
in the intr iguing stor yline.
6. The show tackles im por tant issues- Betty and Ver onica team up to stop a football player w ho w illingly har asses
gir ls for a ?gam e?, addr essing har r asm ent. Racism is also addr essed w ith Josie and the Pussycats, a band at the
school of all afr ican am er ican gir ls. Josie addr esses how she w ants to set an exam ple for young black gir ls
ever yw her e in the show. She says, ?Do you know w hy w e?r e called the Pussycats? Because w e have to claw our
w ay into the sam e r oom s that you can just w altz into.? It also addr esses school bullying, w ith the football player
Reggie M antle r epeatedly teasing Ar chie Andr ew s. Lastly, the ser ies show s fem ale em pow er m ent. All of the
fem ale char acter s fight against society nor m s and r efuse to be sham ed and tr eated differ ent because they?r e
w om en. This inspir es gir ls ever yw her e that they can be as gr eat and br ave as the fem ale char acter s.
7. Jason Blossom ?s full stor y is still a myster y- We never got a full flashback of w hat happened betw een Jason and
his fam ily that caused him to w ant to r un aw ay. The day he and Cher yl r ow ed on Sw eetw ater River still has m any
plot holes and unr evealed secr ets. This anticipates w atcher s for season 2, w hich is being film ed r ight now in
Vancouver.
8. The cast is INCREDIBLY good looking- I know that it?s not all about the looks, but fr om KJ Apa?s m uscular built
body, and Cole?s sw eet baby face, this cast is ver y attr active. All of the River dale gir ls ar e ver y beautiful, and slay
ever y boy w ho w alks their w ay. Yas queens slay!
9. The fr iendships- Of cour se, ther e?s Betty and Ver onica?s fr iendship. They ar e obviously the best fr iendship
ever yone w ants to have. They?r e alw ays ther e for each other and w on?t be afr aid to show their tough side to
anyone w ho hur ts their best fr iend. Their nicknam es for each other , B and V, ar e so so ador able and show just
how close they ar e. If you have a Ver onica or Betty in your life (m etaphor ically), don?t let them go! Ther e?s also
Jughead and Ar chie, an open fr iendship. They?r e not afr aid to talk about their feelings, and their fr iendship has
been thr ough a lot of ups and dow ns, w hich show s how im por tant the r elationship is to both of them . Then,
ther e?s Betty and Ar chie. They?ve been best fr iends since kinder gar ten. Ar chie even asked Betty to m ar r y him
w hen they w er e 5! Although Betty develops feelings for Ar chie that Ar chie does not shar e, the fr iendship still
lasts. Lastly, ther e?s Ver onica and Cher yl. Although this fr iendship is only r eally show n in one episode, it clear ly
show s that Ver onica is ther e for Cher yl w hen she?s upset and can be her shoulder to cr y on. This fr iendship is
ver y intr iguing because it?s quite com plicated, given that they?r e enem ies at ever y point in the show besides that
one episode.
10. It has funny dialogue- Although it is a dar k show , it has m any funny scenes and one-liner s. Especially fr om
Cher yl Blossom , the queen of sassy and sar castic r em ar ks. I also love Ver onica?s innocent jokes, that usually get
her into upsetting her fr iends. Her jokes often r efer ence pop cultur e. For instance, w hen asking to be Ar chie?s
par tner for a m usical per for m ance, she says, ?Be the Jay to my Bey.? This is her r efer encing Jay Z and Beyonce?s
m usical r elationship and duets.
11. The fashion- Ever y char acter ?s fashion accur ately por tr ays their char acter ?s per sonality. Betty, the loving, soft,
?gir l next door ? char acter w ear s innocent clothing, usually w ith car digans, sw eater s, and pastel/soft color s.
Cher yl, the evil, r ich char acter usually w ear s r ed and high fashion clothing. Her fashion sense is ver y shar p and
fier ce. M uch like Cher yl, Ver onica has a ver y expensive fashion style. She w ear pear ls given by her dad for m ost
of the show , and is usually seen w ear ing an edgy outfit that br ings high end fashion to the show. She is never
seen on the show w ithout w ear ing a shar p pair of high heels. Ar chie is usually seen w ear ing his River dale var sity
jacket or a plain t-shir t, show ing his athletic and casual per sonality. Jughead is alw ays seen w ear ing his over sized
beanie, and w ear s only dar k color s. This show s his dar k, unique per sonality. The beanie show s how he likes to
stay in the dar k, and blend in w ith ever yone else. He doesn?t like attention, and w ould r ather be an outsider than
som eone popular.
12. The cast is close in r eal life!- This r eason is pr obably one of my favor ite things about River dale. The cast gets
along r eally w ell, and is often seen going out to eat off set and after film ing is over. The fr iendships w ithin the
cast ar e so cute and m ake m e so happy that the show has br ought together these people. This also m eans that
ther e is lots of new content of the cast on other cast m em ber ?s Instagr am s, Snapchats, etc.
Well, I hope this ar ticle convinced you to w atch River dale! If it did, you w on?t be disappointed. If it didn?t, W HAT
IS W RONG W ITH YOU?!
