My main reason for giving it a level 1 rating is that I feel our Districts
Technology plan was not developed with broad input. I really did not have
knowledge about the plan until researching about it. The main people
involved were the technology team, IT and a few others and I feel you need
input and perspective from multiple people in order for a vision and plan to
really be ideal. The plan that is provided in our Districts website is for
2013-2016 so it definitely needs to be updated. Some features do fall in the
proficient category as the plan does try to support equitable access for all
learners.

In our district, our superintendent and governing board have really
demonstrated support in ensuring schools have funds to increase technology.
Last year they also approved two new staff positions called Integrated
Curriculum Coaches whose primary role is to help train and assist
schools/teachers in integrating technology into the curriculum. The idea is to
help teachers use technology as a tool to enhance instruction and not just a
toy that is brought out once a week. Each year I have experienced an
increase in funds to help the integration of technology, along with more
training being provided to help teachers learn innovative ways to use it.
I feel as a district we are proficient in this marker but there are still many
areas that need to improve overall to move to the competent level. There has
been lots of funds used for hardware with new computers for teachers,
chromebooks for students to use, as well as the purchase of software for
Google Apps for Education and Office 365. Our infrastructure is adequate
but depending on the school site, the bandwidth can be an issue at times.
Two of our grants that helped bring a lot of technology to the district are
coming to an end and I am curious as to how they will be sustained. We had
a grant for our professional development system that helps teacher find
online courses and resources as well as instructor lead trainings. The grant
also allowed for the purchase of media kits that included iPad, tripod,
microphone system and a few other items. The Math Department also
received a grant that allowed for extra training, materials and the creation of
many courses to help teachers. As those grants are coming to an end, I am
curious if the district will seek other funding sources to continue the success.
This summer we will have a tech embassador training where representatives
from each site will be given professional development in integrating
technology into the curriculum. The expectation from the district office is that
the tech embassadors will then train teachers at their individual sites. We
also have the myPD system that allows for teachers to find learning
opportunities they are interested in. Teachers are able to find online
resources and courses as well as instructor led courses. There are plans for
the system to be enhanced with more options so that it can become the main
