placement in the grand scheme of the universe.
Being NUMBER ONE in your individual race

to happen. Sometimes we miss them, sometimes
we see them, sometimes we mis-interpret them.
Such is life. Who really knows what chemistry is?

laugh, a grin. But we realize it when it happens.
I DONT KNOW WHY or how it exists I
just know that the risk to believe it and allow it is

The story of loving again even after youve been
broken is the most courageous. Sometimes we have
to rid ourselves of pride. Sometimes we have to
totally laugh at me.

The freedom to let go is as powerful as the freedom
to love. Emptying the secret place we call our heart
allows us new space for better and greater. People
will toy with our hearts till the day we die. Its inev-
itable. We are sensitive beings, created foremost to
love. Its the reason we live.When we gain the courage
to stand up to he who thought we were weak we
have learned what I like to call THE GOOD-
BYE GAME . Let them play the fool. Take the
role of your own hero. Wave goodbye with a smile
and a grin. And then be at peace saying, Game
Over. Saying, IM COOL saying, Im done! Let
your heart rest easy. Soon enough youll be saying
IM SO IN LOVE all over again, freely
as a bird.
There are some people who were put in your path
to lift you up and then a few were put there to trip
you up. Ive looked in the mirror and said to that
reflection, leave me alone would you?! And it
looked back at me and said IM NOT YOUR
FRIEND honey. Im your life. Its tough some-
times when life gives us lemons but freedom is the
humility to make lemonade out of the ugliest parts
of your life. Circumstance can be a jerk sometimes
but you can look right back in that mirror and be
the STAR you know you have lying inside of
you!
As quiet as its kept, Im a brown-skinned Rock
Star in my head. Nobody knows it but me. Ive got
ideas of myself that if I told anyone they would
undies everyday of the week. I listen to Coldplay
and Michael Jackson loud driving down Sunset
and I think high-priced salons are overrated. I
burp in public often and I laugh way too loud. But
some things shall forever remain my own personal
secrets. They arent worth arguing about. Theyre
better left UN-SAID . There must be wisdom
in freedom. Deciding what needs to be heard and
when. You have the power to say whatever you want
whenever you want. Choose your words carefully.
Freedom is risky but loving.
Sometimes I wonder how much I can get away
with. Is it okay to shave my head? Will anyone like
it if I rap? Can I talk about abstinence and still be
cool? Do gowns and leather jackets match? Does
it matter? IF NOBODY SANG ALONG
would I still want to sing my song? Do I only choose
popular subjects so that I can be accepted and
loved? Freedom is the courage to be honest even if
its not popular. Not disrespectful, not haughty, but
humble and honest. With integrity, poise, as much
peace as possible, wisdom and above all, love.
At the end of the day, as hard as we try, there is only one
all-knowing entity. We try to live this life as fully and
happily as possible but on the days when none of it
makes sense and you say I KNOW NOTHING
theres a Father in heaven who is listening and
ready to lead us to a freedom that surpasses any
freedom weve ever known. And that freedom is to
loveourselves and each other.

LA Reid. Hes been my induction into this
music industry and from the very be-
ginning told me I didnt have to change.
He calmed my fears of being different
and even celebrated my uniqueness. I
celebrate the musicians musician who
pulled out his drum sticks and banged
along to my songs at visits to his office,
who signed me the first day he met me
and who gave me the creative freedom
to pen my first album even as a rookie in
the music game. Thank you Mr. Reid for
believing in me, for coming to my shows
and video shoots, eating cake with me
when my album reached #1, for celebrat-
ing my Grammy, and for personal phone
calls to talk about dresses and Grace
Kelly, hours of Lauryn Hill, and a lesson
on Phoebe Snow. Youre eclectic and
artsy, supportive and, although Im sure
it hasnt always been easy having an artist
like me, I appreciate the leeway and free-
dom youve allowed me. Youve never asked
