Executive Summary

Description and objectives of 4P partners


Hunza Organic Foods (pvt) Limited is a pioneer company in processing and export
of dry fruits, nuts and nuts oil. The company management believes in ethical
business, having social mandate to support improving living condition of contact
farmers therefore the company was certified as Fairtrade in 2005. The management
also believes in environmental friendly agriculture production so the company has
invested in organic certification (Organic EU, Bio Suisse and NOP certified) of its
contact producers from the beginning. By the end of 2016 the company managed to
certify 945 farmers, mostly almond farmers as organic producers.

The objective is to market high value organic apricots, apricot kernels and kernel
oil with brand name in domestic, regional and to small size importer who want to sell
these fruits with name of Hunza health foods. This may be only possible if we receive
financial support from ETI for the following activities:

Description of market opportunities (4P business case)


During incorporation of the company in 2004 the export sales of the company was 80
MT of organic and none organic dried apricots but unfortunately the export sales has
been decreased to 4 MT in 2016. The main reason for decline in export sales is poor
drying techniques (dust insects). A customer in South Korea, M/s Earthman
complained dust and stones in organic apricots and stopped buying. Another a regular
customers in UK M/s Fullwellmill has reported insect body parts and high level of
moulds in dried apricots.
On the other hand we have increasing number of customers from California, UK, Italy
Switzer lands, South Korea, Hong Kong who are very much interested in imports of
organic Hunza apricots and apricot kernels in retail packaging. There are many small
organic stores and companies who want to buy in retail packing. The beginners cant
afford to buy in bulk containers (10 to 15MT) they want to start with few hundreds of
200gm to 500gm retail packing but unfortunately the company has no such
arrangement.

Proposed activities are training of producers, input supplies and international
certification are related to producers and Import of processing and packaging
machinery for value addition to the raw material.
