Overview

Alarm generation.
Currents exceeding 15.5A measured by motor current sensor are flagged to the micro-
controller.
Optional Power Output.
The Suntrack single line TCU tracker controller comes with a general purpose power output,
which can be configured to control a users particular external device, such as a heating
resistor for cold climates.
External board interoperability.
Although the device can work independently with no need of a CPU or Master unit, several
communication buses are already installed to permit multi-board interoperability.

E2S -Enhanced EEPROM Saving- system.


Due to possible intermittence of power supplies, the Suntrack Single line TCU tracker includes
the E2S -Enhanced EEPROM Saving- system, so that latest real time parameters are stored in
memory before becoming corrupted.

Photovoltaic Panel (single/string) or External power supply option.


Versatility and expandability of the design, enables various power supply options, from single
PV or string (incorporates extra circuitry for high voltage version) to external power supply for
tough climates.

Suntrack Single Line TCU

Ensured input power supplys parameters meet the Suntrack Single Line TCUs requirements,
the tracker controller is capable of actuating up to 300W DC brushed motors. Its integrated
inclinometers high accuracy tilt determination and the fast installation features allow the
system to be easily installed in solar spot. Backtracking algorithm prevents adjacent panels
shadowing each other, as well as maximizing energy acquisition.

The device is easily attachable to either field PV panels or tracker structure through its L
shaped plastic flanges.

Communication between master unit (in case supplied) and TCU can be customized to
wireless or cabled (RS-485) versions.

The Suntrack Self-powered tracker controller is factory configured and programmed to work
with 8S1P LiFePO4 battery packs. Programming of these battery configuration and chemistry
has been particularly optimized although chemistries such as Lead Acid and other LIFePO4
configurations (8S2P, 8S3P ) can be customized.

The Suntrack Self-powered tracker controller offers temperature dependent current drain and
charging current limitation. This benefits the application from being able to be installed in
harsh environmental conditions while still operating in a controlled manner. User SW
configurable temperature presets are available to make the device JEITA compliant. This way,
the user can archive a long lasting self-powered application, as batteries will never be
overstressed due to inconvenient temperatures.

CC/CV charging algorithm.


The Suntrack Self-powered tracker controller is manufactured to deliver customized charging
and discharging rates depending on the application, battery and customer needs. Certain
parameters, such as cut-off voltages, C-rates, recharge thresholds and maximum charging
time can be adapted to meet customer needs. A typical Constant Current/Constant Voltage
curve is shown below.

o Currents exceeding 15.5A measured by motor current sensor are flagged to the
micro-controller.
o Temperatures exceeding 65C in the battery pack are treated as an over-
temperature fault which lead to charger inhibition (nor will the battery charge
or discharge as electronics enter in low power consumption mode and motor
actuation is inhibited).
o Over-discharge of battery is signaled to the micro-controller, as indicated by
user-setup minimum threshold register.

Coulomb counting and voltage sensing allow accurate State of Charge (SoC) estimation.
Initial OCV measurement becomes critical when determining initial SoC. This is done by
permitting sporadic whole charge processes (CC/CV is activated and a full charge is archived).
Impedance tracking techniques lead to an estimation of the SoH (State of Health) value, ideal
for battery aging control.

which can be configured to control a users particular external device, such as a heating
resistor for cold climates.

The Suntrack Self-powered tracker controller can be employed to operate in a Sun tracking
system, powered by a Photovoltaic Solar panel, while charging batteries when solar energy is
available and draining them to power external boards and system components. In situations
with enough solar energy and a higher power requirement from system components, both,
the panel and the battery are used in conjunction to supply the necessary amount of power.
Temperature sensors located near the battery, ensure safe charge/discharge cycles to prolong
battery life.

Ensured input power supplys parameters meet the Suntrack Battery Chargers requirements,
