FOREWORD

DEAR INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITORS, FRIENDS

AND ENTHUSIASTS

International Go-Kart Championship is a global student challenge with a

mission of encrypting students with technical as well as practical knowledge
of manufacturing a go-kart. This Challenge is a global platform to show best
of the talent to create what participants thought and designed on
international level. International Go-kart Championship originated with a
purpose to bring students out of their classes and implement what they
learned.

From past three years IGC have been reaching its milestones more than 100+
teams registered in previous year across the globe.

This year competition standards have remarkably changed. The competition

will be undertaken as follows:
INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP
2016-2017 4

PHASE ONE

In this part the team will register itself till 18th October 2016 with complete
payment of INR 13,500/- (by any of methods mentioned in your IGC accounts
on www.igc-lpu.com, the complete registration process will be done through
www.igc-lpu.com. The team have to create an account mentioning each and
every detail. The maximum of 20 members and minimum of 8 members can
be in the team. Maximum 160 teams will be allowed to register.

After the registration process is over, team will start making reports and
they will have to upload their reports on their IGC account when the link
opens. The team will be evaluated upon their capabilities and skills to
manufacture a go-kart. This round is a screening round this round helps IGC
to see whether teams who registered for IGC have enough skill set to
manufacture a go-kart. Therefore this round is named as Qualifying Round
(Phase one) the number of teams rejected will depend upon quality of reports
we receive and are not fixed.

There will be 300 points for the report and the marks will be disclosed during
the final event. A team will have to achieve at least minimum of 45% of marks
achieved by highest scoring team in this round to qualify this round. For

2. Dynamic and Endurance Events

BRAKE TEST
For participation in further rounds of dynamic event it is mandatory to clear
the brake test, in this teams have to run their vehicle for a flat run of 100ft
and will have to stop this vehicle in specified range, during the end of 100 ft
flat run vehicle speed must be at least 40kmph.There will be no marks for this
and each vehicle will be given to 3 attempts to pass brake test after failing in
previous two chances.
Note: After applying brake vehicle should be stop in straight position (in the direction of motion)
Acceleration Test
Acceleration determines the time it takes the vehicle to accelerate along 100
ft. (30.48 m) flat course.
INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP
2016-2017 49
Procedure
Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will
be based on the better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either
electronic systems or stop watches.
Acceleration score = 100x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]
Skid Pad test
Objective
The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the vehicles cornering
ability on a flat surface while making a constant-radius turn.

Skid Pad Layout

There will be two (2) pairs of concentric circles in a shape of eight. The
centre of these circles will be 20m apart. The inner circles diameter will be
16 m and the outer circles diameter will be 21.25 m. The driving path will be
the 2.5 m (9.84 feet) apart between the inner and outer circles. The vehicles
will enter and exit through gates on a 2.5 m wide path that is tangential to the
circles where they meet. The line between the centres of the circles defines
the start/stop line. A lap is defined as travelling around one (1) of the circles
from the start/stop line and returning to the start/stop line.
INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP
2016-2017 50

Procedure
The vehicles will enter tangential to both circle and follow the right circle for
first lap. The next lap will be on the same circle (right) and will be timed.
Immediately after completing second lap vehicle enter into left circle for the
third lap. Vehicle follow same circle for the forth lap. Immediately after
finishing forth lap the vehicle will exit the track. The vehicle will exit at the
intersection moving in the same direction as entered. A driver has the option
to take a second run immediately after the first.
NOTE: Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will be based on the
better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches.
Skid Pad score =100x [(TlongestTyours)/ (TlongestTshortest)]

every cone that is knocked-down or out (including gate cones).
ii. DNF- Vehicles that spin-out can continue as long as they have not gone off
course but will be classified as DNF.
iii. Incorrect Laps- Vehicles that do not follow procedure, i.e. run an incorrect
number of laps or run the Laps in the wrong pattern will be classified as DNF

Autocross Test
Objective
The objective of the autocross event is to evaluate the vehicle's
manoeuvrability and handling qualities on a tight course without the
hindrance of competing vehicles. The autocross course will combine the
performance features of acceleration, braking and cornering of the vehicle
into one event.

Procedure
The vehicle will be staged such that the front wheels are 6 m (19.7 feet)
behind the starting line. The timer starts only after the vehicle crosses the
start line. There will be no particular order of the vehicles to run each heat.
The organizer will determine the allowable windows for each heat and retains
the right to adjust for weather or technical delays. Vehicles that have not run
by the end of the heat will be disqualified for that heat.
Note: Each team may make two (2) attempts but with different drivers. Scoring will be based on the
better of the two attempts. Timing may be done using either electronic systems or stop watches.

Penalties
The carts are judged on elapsed time plus penalties. The following penalties
will be added to the elapsed time:
i. Cones Down Or Out- Three (3) seconds per cone, including any after the
finish line.
ii. Off Course (OC) An "off course" occurs when the vehicle has all four (4)
wheels outside the course boundary as indicated by (a) cones, (b) edge
marking or (c) the edge of the paved surface. Where more than one boundary
indicator is used on the same course, at any given point the narrowest track
will be used when determining off course penalties.
Driver must re-enter the track at or prior to the missed gate or a twenty
(20) second penalty will be assessed. Penalties will not be assessed for
accident avoidance or other reasons deemed sufficient by the track officials.
iii. Missed Slalom- Missing one or more gates of a given slalom will be
counted as one "off-course" per occurrence. Each occurrence will incur a
twenty (20) second penalty.

ENDURANCE
The following are general guidelines for conducting the endurance. The

their vehicles during the heat. A driver can be changed according to the team
at any time during the heat at a specified location. Wheel-to-wheel racing is
prohibited. Passing another vehicle may only be done in an established
passing zone. Team can stop their vehicle at our specified location for the
fuel change or driver change.
Flag Instructions:
Green Flag:
A green flag lets competitors know the track is clear for practice or
competition; it is also used to start or restart a race.

Yellow Flag:
A yellow flag alerts competitors of an unsafe condition in that part of the
track. A waving yellow flag means there is trouble on the track. Drivers are to
hold their position in these areas and shall not pass another competitor until
they have passed the waving caution area. A standing yellow is an advisory
and means there is possible danger near the racing surface. Passing is
allowed when a standing yellow is displayed. When a double yellow flag is
displayed by the starter it signifies a full course caution.
Drivers shall proceed at a moderate pace with no passing allowed.
INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP
2016-2017 55

Red Flag:
A red flag alerts competitors of a halt to racing and to stop as soon as they
can do so safely. Drivers may be directed to proceed to the front stretch or
other designated area if it can be done safely. Corner workers will wave
yellow and black flags to indicate a red flag situation. Any driver disobeying a
red flag shall be disqualified. Participants, crew or family members are not
allowed on the racing surface during a red flag.

Crossed Flags:
A crossed white and green flag indicates the race has reached the halfway
point.

Two Rolled Flags:

Two rolled flags (green and white) are used to let the competitors know there
are two laps remaining in that race.

White Flag:
A white flag lets competitors know they are starting the last lap of the race. If
the white flag has been waved the checked flag will follow even if it is waved
with another flag, i.e. red, yellow or black.
INTERNATIONAL GO-KART CHAMPIONSHIP
2016-2017 56
Checked Flag:
The checked flag indicates the race or practice session has concluded, and all
competitors shall slow down to a moderate pace, and safely proceed to the
scale or pit area as required to do so.

Black Flag:
A waving black flag is used to inform a competitor they need to exit the race
course and proceed to the scale or pit area due to a rule infraction; the
flagman will make every attempt to display the kart number of the driver
receiving the black flag. If a competitor ignores a black flag it could lead to
additional penalties. A rolled black flag is a warning usually given for unsafe
or unsportsmanlike driving. If the actions continue it could lead to a waving
black flag and disqualification.

Black Flag with Orange Circle:

A waving black flag with orange circle is used to inform the competitor of a
mechanical or tech issue. The driver should exit the race course and proceed
to the scale or pit. The flagman will make every attempt to display the kart
number of the driver receiving the black flag.
