Introduction
Steel research is chiefly driven by the desire to produce steels
with tailor made micro-structure and properties suited to diverse
applications. Significant progress has been made in understanding
the influence of alloying elements, hot deformation of austenite
and its controlled decomposition during cooling, cold rolling
and annealing to generate a wide array of microstructures and
mechanical properties in hot and cold rolled products. These
developments are aimed at meeting ever increasing demands for
steel with higher performance and reliability in service. Physical
simulation coupled with mathematical modeling and other
advanced techniques have proved to be techno-economically attractive in improving metallurgical processes, leading to
enhancement in quality of contemporary products and development of new products.

Conference Themes
Physical simulation of metallurgical processes, like continuous casting, hot rolling, strip annealing, forging, extrusion,
heat-treatment, welding/ HAZ, etc.
Numerical simulation techniques
Process optimization for quality/ yield improvement
Mathematical modeling of metallurgical processes
High temperature materials characterization
Recrystallization and grain growth
Structure-property correlation
Phase transformation
Advances in thermo-mechanical controlled processing of steels
Emerging steel products, processes and applications

Venue
The conference will be held at the Auditorium of Research & Development Centre for Iron & Steel (RDCIS), Ranchi,
a Corporate R & D Organization of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) which is one of the largest steel producers in
India.

About the Event

The first International Conference on Thermo-mechanical
Simulation and Processing of Steels (SimPro'04) was held in
2004 at R & D Centre for Iron & Steel, SAIL, Ranchi. The second
Conference (SimPro'08) was another step forward to focus on
recent advances in thermo-mechanical processing, emphasizing
various simulation techniques and their applications. The third
International Conference (SimPro'12) was organized in 2012. In
this series, the fourth International Conference (SimPro'16) is
being organized during February 10-12, 2016 focusing on various
simulation techniques and their applications in steel research
and thermo-mechanical processing like previous conferences.
It will provide an opportunity to scientists and technologists
from research/ academic institutes, and manufacturers to share
their experience and find new directions in producing high value
products.
