Abstract

This research study aims to utilize wood ash and rice hull as components in hollow
blocks making to produce a durable and lighter product and at the same time a low price and a
cheaper one. This study also aims to minimize wasted products abundant into the locality to
produce other useful products out of it.
Several treatments were formulated as follows Treatment 1 - 1:7 = cement:sand;
Treatment 2 - .75:. 25 = cement:wood ash and 6: 1 = sand:rice hull; Treatment 3 - .75:. 25 =
cement:wood ash and 5:2 = sand:rice hull. During the experiment, materials were carefully
measured and thoroughly mixed. Based on the results of the experiment, Treatment 1 was the
finest and Treatment 4 was the lightest among the treatments used.. Moreover, Treatment 3 was
the most durable one because it only broke into two big pieces unlike any other samples which
were broke into many tiny pieces through the method called Drop test. Drop test method, done
by measuring one meter high above the ground where the hollow blocks samples were freely
dropped, was also considered.
The researcher concluded that the most ideal treatment among all the other treatments is
Treatment 3 because of its durability. On the other hand, it is still recommended to test its
strength using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). Nevertheless, this study attained its
objectives.
