Ask any teacher or educa- tional expert what's the only way for children to master these sight words and they'll all agiee—practice! We've created the Scholastic 100 Words workbook series to give your child that practice. Working with literacy specialists and classroom teachers, we identified the 100 sight words your child needs to know by second grade. Then we developed inviting edu- cational activities to give your child opportunities to read, write, and use these words. The sight words in Scholastio's 100 Words Kids Need fo Read by 2nd Grade are divided into seven word groups. The words in each group are introduced in context and rein- forced thtoughout the activities. As your child moves through this workbook, he or she will move from visual recognition of sight words to genuine mastery. Your child will also gain important preparatory experience that will later help with standardized tests. To reinforce the message that skill-building helps make reading fluent—and fun—we've included a wonderful ‘mini-book” at the end of each word group section. This minibook weaves all the words from the word group into a lively story your child will love reading aloud. And to encourage your child’s love of reading, we've also included a poster listing 100 Great Books for 24 Graders, The journey through these workbook pages will help young readers make the success- ful transition from learning to read to reading to learn.
