MODULE 5: LOVIN IT (MODERN ART PERIODS) DISCUSSION

One of my favorite modern art periods would have to Realism. I like Realism because
it is an accurate and truthful portrayal of subject matter. For
example: This is a painting (Grant Wood. American Gothic) of
Realism and their faces are so exact and serious that I do not even
know where to start, on what thoughts they have on their minds.
Realism was an artistic movement that began in France in the
1850s. Realists rejected Romanticism, and they revolved around
the exotic subject matter and exaggerated emotionalism and
drama of the Romantic Movement.

I also enjoyed the modern art period of Surrealism. Surrealism is an artistic and literary
movement, which expresses the imagination as revealed in dreams. I just enjoy this kind of
artwork because I feel it is free and amazing that
people can express and make are from their
dreams or imaginations. For example: This picture
is called (Swans Reflecting Elephants by
Salvador Dali). Its just a picture so beautiful that
you can tell it is from someones imagination. I
just love how peaceful it is and how the swans
simply reflect elephants in the water.
