Policies and Procedures

Ms. Young
2017-2018
Entering the classroom
I will enter quietly, take out my supplies and put my book bag under desk or on the back of
my chair. Then I will look to the board/LCD projector for assignments and begin my
opening activity.

Sharpening pencils
I will use blue or black pens to complete all of my assignments unless directed by my teacher
to use a pencil for things like maps, math, and when drawing. When having to use a pencil, I
will only use my personal, covered pencil sharpener and I will keep my area clean and free
from shavings.

Going to the bathroom

Bathroom breaks are scheduled three times a day (in the morning, at lunch, and during last
block). I will try my best to use the restroom at these times. Any other time will have to be
considered an extreme emergency. In the case of an emergency, I will take my hall pass with
me and keep it with me until I return to class.

Walking in the hallway

Appropriate hallway behavior is expected of me at all times. While in the hallway I must be
silent, keep my hands to myself, and walk in a straight line on the right side of the hallway.

Leaving class
I will not line up or leave class without being directed to do so by the teacher. Before leaving
class I will make sure that my area is tidy, I have all of my belongings, and my homework is
written in my notebook. After being instructed to leave, I will line up quietly and exit the
classroom.

Cleaning up
My area should be orderly at all times. Paper can be put in my groups wastebasket during
class. All baskets must be emptied when full or at the end of class.

Heading papers
Each paper that is turned in will be headed on the right side of my paper and will include my
first name, last name, assignment, and date. Worksheets should have my name and date.

Turning in homework/classwork
I will have my homework ready to turn in as soon as I enter class. Homework will be
collected by my group leader and the group leader will turn the homework into the
homework collector. All other homework is considered late and may not receive full credit.

Asking/Answering questions
If I have a question or want to answer one, I will remember to raise my hand and wait
patiently to be called on.

Lunchtime behavior
During lunch I will use my inside voice and walk while Im in the cafeteria. I will only go
through one lunch line and I will make sure that I have collected everything that I needed
because I will not be allowed to return to the line. Once I have my lunch, I will go to my
assigned table and stay seated. I will make sure that I keep my area neat and clean and make
sure that all trash has been cleaned from my area.
Absences
All absences must be excused. The day that I return from an absence I must turn into my
homeroom teacher a note from my doctor or parent/guardian excusing me from school.
Assignments that were missed will be in a designated area and I will still be responsible for
them. I know that tutorial is also helpful to learn information that I missed or to review
information I might not be clear on in class.

Working in groups
While working with my classmates, I will be focused on completing my assignments (not
discussing off-task topics) and will do my part in making sure the group is successful. I will
use a low voice and make sure that I am trying my hardest.

Taking a test/quiz
I realize that tests and quizzes show my teachers, my parents and myself what I know and
understand so I will do my best on every test/quiz. I will also study and review before a test,
ask questions if I dont understand, and stay focused in class so that I will be prepared to take
my test.

Handling Conflict
We are all unique and that is what makes us special. It also sometimes causes us to have
difficulty getting along. I will do my best to avoid arguing and situations that can get me in
trouble. I will ask for help from my teachers and/or parents if something or someone is
bothering me before I do the wrong thing.

Classroom behavior
I realize that the class has rules that I must follow and Im willing to:
