Grade Level: 1st Grade

Topic: Language Arts and Reading

(b) Knowledge and skills.
(21) Oral and Written Conventions/Handwriting, Capitalization, and Punctuation. Students write
legibly and use appropriate capitalization and punctuation conventions in their compositions.
Students are expected to:
(A) form upper- and lower-case letters legibly in text, using the basic conventions of print (left-
to-right and top-to-bottom progression), including spacing between words and sentences;
(B) recognize and use basic capitalization for:
(i) the beginning of sentences;
(ii) the pronoun "I"; and
(iii) names of people; and

(C) recognize and use punctuation marks at the end of declarative, exclamatory, and
interrogative sentences.

Objectives:
- Students will learn the proofreading marks.
- Students will learn examples of proofreading.
- Students will learn how to correct a sentence structure.
- Students will engage in the use of technology by playing a capitalizing game.

Description of Activity:
The student/s will identify and correct sentence structures using proofreading marks on the
smartboard.
Then, students will participate in a proofreading game called Magical Capitals.
