CITY INFORMATION i
Longmont, You Better Watch Your Ash
A little over one year ago, the devastating Emerald Ash Borer
was first sighted in Longmont. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)
is a non-native, wood-boring beetle that can attach to all ash
tree species. EAB has killed tens of millions of ash trees in the
United States. Once the EAB population builds in numbers,
ash mortality is near 100%. So, thats the bad news. The good
news is that we can start preparing NOW to protect ash trees
and plant replacements. The City has developed an Emerald
Ash Borer Management Plan and a list of the top five tips for
residents. Both are available online at LongmontColorado.gov/
forestry. Visit the website to learn more and watch your ash!

Trash Talk: News You Need to Know

A New Era in Waste Management & How You Can $ave
Lots of changes have been happening when it comes to trash
in Longmont. You can now shrink your trash and keep more
things out of the landfill with our optional composting service.
Its a perfect complement to recycling, and, if you use the
two together, you might even be able to get into our new,
every-other-week trash collection (or maybe you downsize
from a 96-gallon trash to a 48-gallon). By taking advantage of
recycling, composting and a smaller trash bin, its very possible
that you could find yourself with a greater total volume for
disposal at a lower cost. Take a close look at your households
