c. Summary
Overall, students did an average job on this lesson. Students did better than
expected on the pre-assessment. Students wrote their own definitions of rocks,
minerals, soil, and sand. Students were able to express their own ideas, which made
the assessment easier for them. During the lesson students filled out a packet on the
Earth Materials they observe. These students have never done a hands-on experiment
such as this before. I believe this is why students did this assessment the best. They
were fully engaged and wanted to learn because it was fun to them. The post
assessment was more difficult for the students. I believe this occurred because
students were more engaged in the doing of the experiment, rather than the
applying part.

B. Individuals
a. Analyze
It is important to collect and analyze the data of each lesson. This data was used
to find the above average student, average student, and the below average
student. I was able to use these groupings to determine which students I was
targeting in the lesson. From this lessons data, I was able to determine that they
needed extra time to cover the Earth materials and the definitions associated
with them. Students enjoyed observing the Earth materials but were not ready to
be quizzed on them.

b. Data of Student Work

Above average: The student scored 100% on the pre-assessment. The student gave plenty of
effort in the activity and answered each definition in their own words. They scored 94% on the
during assessment. I believe this happened because they are easily distracted by others and this
was a group observation, but an individual assessment. On the post-assessment, the student
scored 100% on the worksheet. They knew all the facts and definitions from the lesson.

Average: The student scored 100% on the pre-assessment. They gave efficient answers to the
questions that were asked. They scored 78% on the during assessment. This may have not been
the best assessment for the student because I believe they learned from the observation, but just
failed to record the data. For the post-assessment, the student scored 80% correct. I believe this is
from not connecting the observations to the definitions we spoke about in class.

Below average: This student scored 75% on the pre-assessment. Students were asked to put any
thoughts down on the paper that they think would describe the word. This was graded for effort
and the student did not try to write anything down for one of the words. For the during
assessment the student scored an 84. I believe the student worked better once they knew the real
definitions of the words and could see the Earth materials. The student did best on the post-
assessment because they had heard the information several times at this point. They scored 90%
on the quiz.

c. Summary
The students did well in the pre-assessment and the during assessment.
The post-assessment did not have the expected results. The students
seemed to grab the concept of fractions and did them with no problem. I
believe the pre-assessment and the during assessment did not match the
post-assessment. The post-assessment was from the textbook and were
more difficult and included word problems that confused the students.

B. Individuals
a. Analyze
Recording data for each of your lessons is important so you can analyze
the students. I was able to use this information to decide which students
understood the material. I used the data to determine which students
understood the instructions and which had difficulties.
b. Data of Student Work
Above average: This student scored 100% on the pre-assessment. The student answered the
problem correctly and gave forth plenty of effort. For the during assessment, the student also
scored 100% accurate. The post-assessment was no difficulty for this student. They scored 100%
accurate on it as well.

Average: This student scored 100% accurate on the pre-assessment. For the during assessment
the student scored 80% accurate. They had some difficulty creating the fractions. They
understood that there is a whole and a part, but could not get the fraction correct. This problem
also continued in the post-assessment. They scored 88% accuracy on the post-assessment.

Below average: This student scored 100% on the pre-assessment. This was a new approach to
the type of math problem that every student could connect to. This student scored 20% accuracy
on the during assessment because even though they understood the pizza problem, they could not
connect the information. This student needs more to have math connected to real world problems
to understand it. They had an extreme difficulty looking at the fraction circles and writing down
the fraction. The student had some difficulty with the post-assessment. They scored at 76%
accuracy.

c. Summary
The students did not do as well in the pre-assessment as expected. The
students had a difficult time thinking of careers that involved animals. I feel
like this assessment could have been explained a little better than it was. I
think a few students were unsure of what to do and just guessed. The during
assessment was excellent. The post-assessment was also very well. Every
student received a 100. The graph shows a decrease from the loss of one
student during the lesson.

B. Individuals
a. Analyze
For this lesson I recorded data so that I could choose an above average
student, average student, and below average student. I can use these three
students to represent the whole class. I can tell if the lesson was appropriate
for all students or not. I can also look at the individual student and determine
if they understood the materials.
b. Data of Student Work
Above average student: This student scored 100% accuracy on all three assessments. They
understood the entire lesson and had no difficulties.

Average student: This student scored 80% accuracy on the pre-assessment. I believe this was
due to the confusing instructions that were given. For the during assessment and the post-
assessment, the student scored 100% accuracy.

Below average student: This student had difficulty understanding the pre-assessment directions
and scored 40% accuracy. They also scored 67% accuracy for the during assessment because
they did not include appropriate information that was expected. This could also have been caused
by direction confusion. This student scored 80% accurate on the post-assessment. They gathered
their best facts and constructed their person with no difficulties.

c. Summary
Overall the students did amazing on this lesson. The lowest grade recorded
was an 80. Most of the 80s were in the post-assessment. This leads me to
think that the post-assessment could use some work. The students were to
use what they knew and apply it to their own life. Some students had
difficulty applying the story to their own life. Many of the ones who
received a lower score explained how the character in the book was a friend
instead of how they could be a friend.

B. Individuals
a. Analyze
For this lesson I recorded data to choose an above average student, average
student, and below average student. I used the data to analyze how well the
lesson reached each student. This data showed me that most students
understood the concept of the lesson.
b. Data of Student Work
Above average student: This student scored 100% accuracy on all three assessments. They
understood the text and could apply it to their life.

Average Student: This student scored 100% accuracy on the pre-assessment and post-
assessment. For the during assessment, the student scored 90% accuracy. This was a worksheet
used to grade memory of the text.

Below Average Student: This student scored 80% accuracy on the pre-assessment. This could
have been because of a lack of connection to a previous lesson about character traits. The student
scored 95% accuracy on the during assessment and 100% accuracy on the post-assessment. This
shows me that the student began to gain an understanding of the concept of character traits.

c. Summary
The students did an outstanding job with this social studies lesson. The
pre-assessments lowest grades were 60s which caused the graph to show
such a decrease. The average was a 94.5. For the during assessment and
the post-assessment, every single student scored a 100.

B. Individuals
a. Analyze
Looking at the data that I received from this lesson, I came to the conclusion
that the students either already knew about the cotton gin, or were able to
relate and understand the material easily. This showed me that there should
not be any more time spent on the subject of the cotton gin.
b. Data of Student Work
Above average student: This student scored 100% accurate on all assessments. They
understood the material and had no problem finding the answers in the text.

Average student: This student scored 100% accurate on the during assessment and the post-
assessment, but only scored 80% accurate on the pre-assessment. This student lost points
primarily because they had left a question blank.

Below average student: This student scored 100% accuracy on the during and post-assessment,
but scored 60% accuracy on the pre-assessment. This too was because they left questions blank.
Students were told repeatedly that they needed to put down a thought even if they did not think it
was correct.
