1 Pascal/Pa = 1.45x10 3.35x10 1.02x10 1
Exact values are printed in bold type to distinguish them from rounded values.
POWER CONVERSIONS
Subtract the square of the inside from the square of the outside diameter (in mm) and multiply the result by:
0.006 for steel
0.005 for iron
This gives mass in kg/m
Alternative method (approximate).
Add the wall thickness (t) in mm to the bore (d) and multiply this sum by the wall thickness (t) and by 0.024 to give the mass of the steel tube in kilograms per metre.
i.e. Mass = 0.024 (d+t)t in kg/m.

N.B.: These pipes can be used for higher pressures than those above, or for special working conditions with suitable types of joint.
The efficiency of taper/parallel screwed joints is highly dependent on the degree of care taken in assembly and jointing compound used.
Light pipes are not recommended for steam, air or gas services.
Reference to steam services applies to saturated steam only.

SETTING GAP
The setting gap is the distance between the pipe ends after the coupling has been assembled
83 <60 14.5
102 >60 <328 19.0
178 >60 <1829 38.0
Where locating plugs are used. the setting gap should be increased by 9.5mm for sizes up to 324mm OD and 12.5mm for sizes above 324mm OD to avoid contact with the plugs.
ANGULARITY
Each Straight Coupling will allow for a setting angularity as follows:
Up to 457 mm OD 6 1 in 10
Over 457 mm tot 610 mm OD 5 1 in 12
Over 610 mm tot 762 mm OD 4 1 in 15
Over 762 mm to 1 219mm OD 3 1 in 20
The above schedule should only be used when the pipes will not move in service. Where movement of the pipes may occur subsequent to laying, we recommend working to half these
figures to allow for in-service flexibility.
Pipe ends should be smooth, with no seams, score marks, dents or ovality beyond those detailed in BS534-1990 Section 15.
ENERGY DISSIPATOR
The Energy Dissipator is a proprietary unit for reducing flow or energy owing to
head in a pipeline system.
Although it was designed primarily for solids, owing to its wear resistant design and
materials selections, it is equally suitable for water and other liquid applications.
Each unit is designed specifically for the end users duty by professional engineers.

the bolting procedure.
SEAL
OPTION 2
The hi-pressTM flat seal requires no grooves in the flanges and is replaceable without having to
remove pipes.
The disadvantage is that the flat seal does not align the two flanges and the flange faces do not butt up
to each other which could cause turbulence at the joint (gasket thickness 5mm).

Notes:
1. All dimensions are given in inches. 5. Class 150 flanges except Lap Joint will be furnished with 0.06" raised face, which is included
in Thickness (t) and Length through Hub (T1). (T2).
2. Class 150 welding neck flanges size 24" & smaller will be bored to match standard wall pipe
unless otherwise specified. 6. For Slip-on, Threaded, Socket Welding and Lap Joint Flanges, the hubs can be shaped either
vertical from base to top or tapered within the limits of 7 degrees.
3. Bore (B1) of Welding Neck and Socket Welding Flanges is the same as inside diameter of the
pipe to be butt-welded.
4. Diameter of Hub at Bevel (A) of Welding Neck Flanges is the same as outside diameter of the
pipe to be butt-welded.

8. Blind Flanges may be made with the same hub as that used for Slip-on Flanges or
without hub.
9. The gasket surface and backside (bearing surface for bolting) are parallel with 1 degree.
To accomplish parallelism, spot facing is carried out according to MSS SP-9 without
reducing Thickness (t).

Wall thicknesses conform to ANSI B36.10 Specifications for STD and Sch 40 wall pipe.
Pressure- Temperature Ratings are identical to those for seamless pipe of the same size, wall thickness or Schedule, and material grade.
20" and smaller Nominal Pipe Size Butt-Welding Fittings are seamless.
22" and 24" Nominal Pipe Size Butt-Welding Fittings meeting STD Specifications have one longtudinal seam, and those meeting Sch 40 Specifications have two longitudinal seams.

Wall thicknesses conform to ANSI B36.10 Specifications for STD and Sch 40 wall pipe.
Pressure- Temperature Ratings are identical to those for seamless pipe of the same size, wall thickness or Schedule, and material grade.
14" and smaller Nominal Pipe Size Butt-Welding Fittings are seamless.
16"and larger Nominal Pipe Size Butt-Welding Fittings meeting STD Specifications have one longtudinal seam, and those meeting Sch 40 Specifications have two longitudinal seams.
