INTRODUCTION TO THE AGE OF AQUARIUS

Dont worry! This isnt a book about astrology and it isnt a book about pretty
sounding ideas that are nothing more than fantasy. This is a book with
methods that WORK to help you expand your consciousness and work your
way towards being the best YOU that you can be. But come with me first for a
moment on a journey back in time, a journey back to the 1960s when flower
power and love were going to solve all the worlds problems. Everyone knew
that it was the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and it was only a matter of time
before we lived in a world of peace and harmony, where all you needed was
love.

Fast forward 50 years and the world is still as war torn as it ever was. Was
there any truth at all to the notion of an Age of Aquarius?

First of all, lets have a look at what this actually means. There are those that
believe that the planet works its way through 12 different Ages and that we
are currently living in Aquarian times. The Age of Aquarius is supposed to be a
time of enlightenment, that period of history when our consciousness is
expanded, both collectively and individually, and we will all come to a deeper
understanding of our place in the universe.

How can this be our Age if we are surrounded by conflict, strife and war?

Well if the astrologers are to be believed, we are still at the beginning


relatively speaking, which means itll be a long time yet before we see any real
progress towards world peace. However, what cant be denied is that we are
definitely seeing a genuine growth in people interested in spirituality, wanting

to develop their minds, their psychic skills, their understanding of the great big
Whatever.

So ask yourself WHY youve bought this book. If youre just looking for a good
read, a few ideas that seem intriguing but nothing youre going to explore in
any real depth, then put this book back on the shelf and walk away. Go with
my blessings, but go because this isnt the book for you.

If, on the other hand, youre looking for a book which is going to challenge you,
take you to somewhere new, help you explore the inner depths of your mind
and achieve the highest goals, then stick with me, because were going to go
on a journey together, a journey right to the limits of what you think youre
capable of and beyond.

Im guessing that you decided to read this book because youve been wanting
to make a change but didnt know how or where to start am I right? Maybe
youre perfectly happy with things as they are, youre plodding along
comfortably, but you just KNOW that theres something more out there. Or
maybe youre not quite so happy but youre stuck in a rut and dont know how
to break out of it.

Everyone feels like this one way or another. Its called being in your comfort
zone and all of us have one and all of us find it difficult to do something
outside of it.

Your comfort zone can relate to any one or all aspect of your life. Perhaps

not something you ever saw yourself doing for the rest of your life. You know
youre not going to be fulfilled while you remain in your current position, but
its just that the pays good enough and you have a reasonable amount of job
security.

THATS being in your comfort zone. You know theres a job out there that is
much more YOU but you dont want to risk what youve got while you look for
it.

Or perhaps youre in a relationship married, even. Whatever spark there


may have been once upon a time, its certainly long since fizzled out and you
know in your heart that nothing you can do is ever going to bring it back.
Youre comfortable with each other, friends rather than lovers, and your heart
yearns to feel passion once again, to be in love once again. But you have
company when you come home at night, your finances and belongings are
inextricably linked and ending the relationship is going to mean all sorts of
hassle with no guarantee of a romance with someone else at the end of it.

THATS being in your comfort zone. You know that theres someone out there
who is The One for you, but you dont want to risk what youve got while you
look for them.

Now look around you. Are there people you know who have what you want?
People who seem to have all the answers, who are successful in a way you
want to be. THEY dont have comfort zones.

Actually, yes they do. Ever hear the phrase feel the fear and do it anyway?
THATS what successful people do. They dont let themselves be constrained
by their comfort zone if theres something they want, they broaden their

horizons until their new, expanded, more successful world is their new comfort
zone! They continually adapt and improve and allow themselves room to grow
as much as they need to achieve all the things they want in life.

Dont get me wrong theres nothing bad in feeling comfortable with where
you are. If youre content with your life, then great! Perhaps youll find a trick
or two in here that might help you tweak things a little, but if youre happy
where you are, then thats fine.

The fact that youre reading this book tells me that youd like to take things a
bit further, though. What you have is a solid foundation but theres ALWAYS
room for growth, ALWAYS something new to learn. The moment you think
you know it all is the moment you stop living!

I know, I know, change is scary, even if its change for the better. You might
not be happy with your lot, but it is YOUR LOT and its daunting considering
changing that for something new, even if that new something is what youve
always dreamed of. But DONT WORRY. Im right here with you and Im going
to talk you through some techniques to broaden your horizons further than
you could ever have imagined.

Since subliminal messaging allows us to step outside of our comfort zone


without fear, secure in the knowledge that we really are making improvements
in ourselves and our life, we are speeding up the process of gathering the
courage to step out of our comfort zone. We all know people who leave a job,
relationship or situation that wasnt making them happy and turned round
afterwards to say I wish Id done that years sooner.

THE MEANING OF (YOUR) LIFE

Take a moment to think about what YOU think the meaning of life is. There is
no right or wrong answer, no matter how many people might claim otherwise.
YOUR answer is just as valid as anyone elses and you have just as much
chance of being right as anyone else.

For me, the meaning of life is happiness. Not the pursuit of happiness.
HAPPINESS.

Think about that phrase the pursuit of happiness what does it really mean?
Does it mean that youre happy? No. If the meaning of life is to pursue
happiness, that suggests that you might never find it. Whats worse, you could
have been looking in all the wrong places because someone else told you that
happiness was to be found in the security of wage slaver or staying in a
loveless marriage. Maybe thats how it worked for them but if its not working
for you, why are you continuing down the wrong path?

Key to subliminal messaging (and well discuss this in a little more detail in
another chapter) is the fact that all subliminal affirmations are based in the
present, speaking to the inner mind as if they are ALREADY a reality. So if you
say to your mind I am pursuing happiness then perhaps you might see a little
improvement in your attitude, but nothing much will change indeed, you will
stay exactly where you are, so much will you have convinced yourself that if
you just keep doing what youre doing, happiness will surely follow eventually.

But try saying to your mind I am happy and it will make sure that the world
around you will shift until you truly are even if that means your life has

changed beyond recognition!

Think about any friends of yours who you consider to be truly spiritual whats
the one thing they all have in common? Thats right theyre HAPPY! Theyve
found whatever it is that fulfills them and theyve followed it. And thats just
what youre going to do.

Well get into some more in depth, practical exercises right now, but to begin
with, I want you to get a pen and five pieces of paper. In the middle of each
piece of paper, I want you to write one of the following words:

Relationship
Health
Wealth
Career
Education

Now from each of those words, youre going to have a brainstorm session and
create a mind map of all the things that you associate with those. It doesnt
matter whether theyre your ideals and positive things or negative points,
perhaps things based in your life as it is now. Draw lines leading away from
that one word and bullet point anything and everything that comes to mind
about it. If you have thoughts inspired by one of those points, draw another
line branching off and detail them. If you notice that some things are related,
draw lines connecting separate branches until you are left with a page full of
words and interconnecting lines to form a mind map of your current thoughts.

Here are some things for you to consider to get you started:

Relationship. Is it good? Could it be better? Are you with the right person?

Health. Are you healthy? Do you need to diet? Do you need to get fitter?

Wealth. Are your finances in order? Are you protected in later life? Do you
save?
Career. Are you valued? Are you in the right position? Are you in the right
career?
Education. Do you read? Do you study? Are you open to education &
learning?

When you are done, step back and examine the mind maps youve created.
These five areas between them will have covered pretty much everything
thats important to you. If your mind maps were full of examples of your
present reality and all of those examples were positive, then your life would be
PERFECT, right?

Well dont worry with a little bit of work and the support of subliminal
messaging, it CAN!

WHAT IS SUBLIMINAL MESSAGING?

Much of what Im going to cover in this book is based around subliminal


messaging. Subliminal messaging is the process of communicating thoughts
and ideas DIRECTLY to the mind in order to get it to create the reality that we
need.

Ever looked around you and realised that people are treated in exactly the way
they expect to be treated? I bet you know some really nasty people who seem
to float through life and get everything handed to them on a plate whilst the
sweetest, kindest, most beautiful souls are treated incredibly badly by some
people. Doesnt seem fair, does it?

But this is where the power of our minds comes into play on a deep,
subconscious level, we all have a certain standard that we expect from the
world around us. We naturally rise to that level and then stay there, regardless
of whether we deserve or could achieve more. So in order to break those
patterns of behaviour, we need to reprogramme our minds to expect better
and it really does work!

So lets look back at our mind maps. If you select one of them, the one you
most want to work on lets take relationship as an example and create a
subliminal messaging programme that contains affirmations in the present
tense telling your subconscious mind that this is ALREADY your reality, things
will change for the better in double quick time!

So you might want to build up a list of affirmations that look something like
this:

I am loved by my partner/wife/husband
We have a great sex life
I am with the person I am going to spend the rest of my life with
My partner/wife/husband makes me happy
Our relationship is as fresh as it was when we met

It doesnt matter that this might be the complete opposite to how your love
life currently stands. You MUST make your inner mind believe that you are in
the perfect relationship, not the relationship you currently have if you have
one at all.

When you speak to your mind subliminally, you are communicating directly
with your subconscious. There are no interruptions, no interference you are
dealing with the part of you that is REALLY in the driving seat. Convince your
inner mind of how things are going to be and youre already half way there!

And heres the REALLY beautiful part you dont actually NEED to convince
your inner mind! It accepts everything you tell it as being real, as if it is
happening RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT! So if your subliminal messaging
affirmations are telling your inner mind that you are blissfully in love with
someone who feels the same way about you, your subconscious will accept
this as true and begin the process of creating a situation that will see you meet
the right person for you as if by magic.

Lets compare that to this list of affirmations:

All women/men are cheaters


There isnt anyone out there whod love me

Im miserable in my relationship but Im scared of being alone


Theres no such thing as lifelong romance
No relationship can stay fresh and exciting for long

Try telling that to your subconscious and what do you think will happen?
Thats what your inner mind will think you want and it will keep you being
miserable in an unhappy relationship!

This is why subliminal messaging is so important when it comes to breaking out


of your comfort zone. The conscious part of your mind would rather you
stayed within your comfort zone, even if youre depressed there.

But thats madness! I hear you cry. Nobody would be deliberately miserable!

Not deliberately, no. But if youve convinced yourself that this is all you
deserve, then any movement away from that towards where you want to be
will involve work for your conscious mind and your conscious is inherently
lazy and doesnt like to be disturbed.

If you just tell your CONSCIOUS mind that you want to change and expand
your horizons, youll hear at the back of your head a little voice that says no,
you dont. Thats because youve programmed your subconscious otherwise
and unless you can change THAT part of your mind, your conscious is going to
stay right where its comfortable. That little voice will tell you that youre
being silly and youll forget you ever had the idea even though youll have
that thought over and over again.

On the other hand, if you communicate directly to your SUBCONSCIOUS mind,

youre dealing with that part of yourself that LOVES change, WELCOMES

HOW DOES SUBLIMINAL MESSAGING WORK?

Remember how I said that people treat us the way we expect to be treated?
Well Im going to take that one step further and assert that it is a FACT that
whatever you have achieved, received or had to endure in your life so far is a
result of you asking for it!

Dont believe me? Doesnt make it any the less true! Whatever you give your
attention, energy and focus to is what you attract, whether it is good or bad,
negative or positive! A few examples should show you what I mean:

I hope I dont get flu just before I go on holiday that always happens to me!
There you go youre expecting to get sick, youve focused your mind on
getting sick, so of COURSE youre going to get sick before your holiday!

I wish I could look amazing at my school reunion but Im never going to lose
weight in time. Of course you wont! Youve already convinced your
subconscious its impossible so it will never happen.

Lets try approaching this from the opposite direction:

I always have an amazing holiday even if it rains! Yes you do bon voyage!

I look stunning in the outfit I bought for the reunion. Yes you do youll be
the belle of the ball!

The same situation approached in two completely different ways resulting in


two completely different outcomes!

Subliminal messaging works, is so POWERFUL, because it transmits positive

thoughts to your subconscious creating a positive story that your inner mind

has no choice but to accept as true. Affirmations linked to the outcome of that
story alter the beliefs and attitudes you carry with you right down to your very
core, thus laying the foundations for the manifestation of the life you REALLY
want.

Affirmations are key to the subliminal messaging process. An affirmation is a


positive statement of fact and, if appropriately crafted, can reap rewards far
greater than you can possibly imagine when you use them.

There are three vital factors to bear in mind when you are drafting an
affirmation list:

1. Affirmations MUST be in the present tense. Speak as if something is


happening RIGHT NOW. For example, I have a Labrador is present (and
you dont have to worry about whether your affirmations are true at the
current time the point about them is to bring about a shift in reality to
MAKE them true). I will have a Labrador one day is based in the future
and will not create a reality shift. You CAN use affirmations based in the
future if you really want to, but you need to be very specific with them, so,
for example, you can say I will have a Labrador by 31st December 2013
because you are giving your mind a deadline by which it needs to achieve
your goal. Dont restrict being specific to future targets though be as
specific as you need to achieve EXACTLY what you want. I will have a
Labrador will bring you a new dog but it might be an old, yellow Lab when
you wanted a chocolate Labrador puppy! I have a beautiful, friendly
chocolate Labrador puppy now thats specific AND based in the present.
2. Affirmations MUST be positive. State what you WANT, not what you

DONT want. Its no good saying I dont want to be stuck at home every

night watching TV that doesnt give your subconscious anything


concrete to work towards. Much better to state I go out at least five
nights a week this WILL see your social life pick up. But bearing in mind
that we want to be specific, youd get even better results by saying I have
a happy, active social life and go out at least five nights a week. Now that
WILL see you out AND enjoying yourself!
3. KISS - keep it simple, stupid! Its all too easy to get sucked into making
your affirmations longer and longer as you think of all the possibilities that
are suddenly available to you. However, if you launch into a long speech
about everything and anything, your subconscious will lose its focus and
stop paying attention. It is best influenced by short, snappy, positive
statements. So when you write out your list of affirmations, bullet point
the list and if you can see any that can be split up into two or more
statements, DO IT! You dont need to waffle and pad out your affirmations
all you want is for your subconscious to learn how you want life to be and
to make it so from hereon in.

Once you have your list of affirmations, you need to communicate them to
your inner mind. One of the best ways to do this is through a bespoke

However, there ARE a number of other ways in which you can get in touch
with your inner mind ALL BY YOURSELF. Well go a little deeper into these
methods later in the book, but heres a very basic way for you to try for
yourself as you get started on the process of expanding your world.

Write your affirmations out on a postcard and have them displayed


prominently somewhere that you will see on a regular basis. Recite them out
loud morning and night every day and you will see results. If your affirmations
concern psychological or emotional issues, you should see results pretty
quickly. If youre after something more materialistic, then thats going to take
a lot longer, but thats got a lot to do with the fact that this method needs to
get past the conscious minds gatekeeper first. After all, weve discussed
already that simply talking to your conscious isnt going to change anything, so
youre going to have to be more forceful and push your affirmations past your
conscious before things can change. Whilst your subconscious is nave and
believes anything its told, your conscious mind is much more skeptical and
needs a great deal more convincing before it lets new thoughts trickle down.

Bear in mind that the very process of picking up this book sent a message
through to your mind that youre SERIOUS about using ALL the power of your
mind. A bespoke subliminal programme will achieve the fastest results but
youd be surprised at how much you can achieve by reciting your personal
affirmations with some force of will behind them.

THINGS YOU DIDNT KNOW YOU DIDNT KNOW

Its said that we only use 10% of our brain. Whether this is true or not (and it
probably isnt scans show that most of our brain is active most of the time),
its certainly true that theres an awful lot going on underneath the surface of
our very own mind that we simply dont know about. When I said that I
believe that the meaning of life is happiness, thats true for my life but is it
true for yours? What is the meaning of YOUR life?

I have no idea! I hear you cry. Thats all right. Most people dont know they
just keep chugging along the same old path. But I have a great way to help you
find out. Whats even better about the exercise that Im about to give you is
that not only can you use it to better understand your lifes purpose, you can
use it to uncover the reason behind any self-limiting behaviour you want to
change. You can only use it for one issue at a time, but theres no limit to how
many times you can repeat the exercise until youve unearthed everything that
you need in order to take your work to the next level.

It all starts with an affirmation, as most of the exercises in this book do. You
want to discover your reason for existing as part of your quest for personal
development and enlightenment, so the affirmation that youre going to use is
this:

I understand the purpose of my life and everything I do is in line with my


purpose.

Now, we could just use this as a subliminal affirmation and it would


automatically fine tune our attitudes and behaviours to fit in with our lifes

lesson, but what we really want is to UNDERSTAND whats going on

underneath the surface in order to make sure that were really making
genuine, life changing progress.

So how do we use this affirmation to unlock the secret of our life?

We commit ourselves to an 11 day cycle of work.

Pick a time when you know that youll be undisturbed for around 45 minutes.
It doesnt matter whether you get up early and do this before work, do this last
thing at night when youre tucked up in bed or take yourself off at lunchtime.
Any time will do, as long as its the same time every day. This will help you get
into a routine, which will make it more difficult for your mind to talk you out of
doing it.

Make no mistake change is scary and once you discover what youre REALLY
meant to be doing, you might find your life turns completely upside down as
you cut out anything from your life that doesnt support your purpose and
replace it with positivity. Remember, the conscious mind is lazy and doesnt
want to make any kind of effort, even if it means happiness. So you will find
yourself coming up with excuses for why you shouldnt do the exercise today.
Youre feeling a bit under the weather, you overslept, youre too tired, theres
something good on TV. There WILL be excuses! But you need to ignore those
excuses and push on anyway, because what youll have achieved at the end of
the 11 days (and its only 11 days! Nothing compared to the rest of your life) is
worth its weight in gold.

You will need a pen and some paper, along with some means of timing
yourself. Personally, I like to be able to set an alarm to keep me on target

because its easy to get sidetracked and forget the time aspect.

Write your affirmation at the top of the paper. Then for the next two minutes,
write anything that comes to mind. Freeform it. No matter how silly it seems,
let your hand flow and the words come. If you dont have any words to write,
it doesnt matter write nothing, nothing, nothing, until something comes to
you.

At the end of those two minutes, write the affirmation again. It doesnt matter
if youve been in the middle of a sentence, stop, write the affirmation and
begin the process all over. Be really strict with yourself if you let yourself go
over two minutes once, youll do it again and youll end up allowing yourself to
wander all over the place and youll have lost control of the process.

What you are doing is writing whats called a stream of consciousness. Youre
allowing your mind to communicate itself to you the opposite of what were
looking to do with subliminal messaging. Youre letting your mind tell you all
about itself and since this is something its not used to doing, itll take a while
for its voice to find its legs, so to speak.

For the first couple of days, youll get nothing that you didnt already know,
thoughts that youve already had, or simply nothing, nothing, nothing. Thats
OK. You need to flush your system of the surface thoughts to be able to dig
underneath for the hidden treasure.

But when you sit down to the exercise after three or four days, youll feel that
somethings changed. Youll start receiving insights that had never occurred to
you. Youll write things that will make you stop and think hey that makes
perfect sense. I never thought of it like that before!

At this point, youll be tempted to stop the exercise. After all, youve already
got something useful, so theres no need to keep going for another week,
right?

WRONG!

The really useful stuff wont come to you until the end of the 11 day cycle.
What you get after three or four days are your self-limiting beliefs trickle
feeding some little tidbits to you in the hope that youll give up and go away.
Dont fall for it! Stay with it and by the end of the 11 days, youll have some
invaluable material to work with to make sure that the work you do will be
truly tailor made bespoke, just for you and your own, unique problems.

You can use this exercise as many times as you like just make sure that you
leave at least a week between cycles to give your mind a chance to recover.
Its not used to doing the talking, so let it have a bit of a rest to recuperate.
You have, after all, been digging about in the inner resources of your mind.
Thats tiring work!

One of the beauties of this exercise is that while youve been doing it, youve
already been planting the idea of finding your lifes purpose in your
subconscious, without the need for any further work. In fact, you may even
find that, during the course of the cycle, youve been starting to make a few
simple changes to how you do things as your mind already starts to readjust
itself to where you want it to be.

If youve been honest with yourself and stuck rigidly to doing the exercise
every day for 11 days, then by the end of the cycle, you will have a far greater

TO SEE OR NOT TO SEE THE POWER OF VISUALISATION

So far, youve heard me talk a lot about subliminal messaging and for good
reason its an incredibly powerful tool. However, it is not the only technique
we can use to communicate with our subconscious and if we use it in
conjunction with other methods, we can see amazing results. After all, the
theme of this book is the holistic development of the self, which means that if
we want to get the most out of our mind, we need to train it so that it can
ACHIEVE the most.

Youve probably heard talk about visualising your goals. Now that you have a
strong understanding of what you REALLY need to be doing to be leading a
happy, fulfilled life, using visualisation techniques, were taking our life
purpose affirmations one step further. With visualisation, were not just using
language to define our goals its a complete, full five senses recreation of
what we want to achieve.

Lets say, for example, that youve discovered that you need to be teaching as
a foreign language in Japan. Lets have a look at that life, shall we?

First of all, you need to do a little research into what life as an English teacher
is like in Japan. Read and devour every bit of information you can find out
about what the lifestyles like, what the countrys like, what kind of home
youll have, what kind of school youll teach in, etc. Since this is all working
towards your lifes purpose, its unlikely youll experience this as WORK every
new piece of information you have brings you one step closer to true
fulfillment.

Once you have a good idea of what your lifestyle might be like after you move,
start seeing it in your minds eye. Walk into your classroom. What is it like? Is
there work displayed on the walls? Are you teaching children or adults? How
many pupils are in your class?

I want you to imagine yourself leading a class of students, capturing everything


about it the sights, the smells, the sounds is that a clock ticking? Can you
hear the chatter of your students or are they quiet? Know what your
classroom looks like in every minute detail and know that this place is real and
you will be there soon.

Once you have that image fixed in your mind, you need to revisit it every day
at least once, if not more often. Teach your class just before you go to sleep,
when your mind is at its most receptive. If you commute to work on public
transport, use that time to build your mental picture and remember that there
are no limits, no rights or wrongs, just what you desire. A few moments every
day will create a situation where you will be in Japan, teaching that class in
next to no time.

This is the beauty of what Im trying to convey to you all you need to do is
place into your mind the vision of your ideal world and then sit back and watch
the results come to life before your very eyes. That is the power of subliminal
messaging (in general) and visualisation (in particular).

But Steve! I hear you cry. Im useless at visualisation! I cant even picture my
current job, let alone imagine my perfect one!

Dont worry. I have a few tricks up my sleeve to change that. All it takes is a

find useful for all sorts of occasions, not just for when you want to send
subliminal messages to your mind. Imagine going to buy some curtains for
your new bedroom in Japan and forgetting to take with you a sample of the
colour on the walls. With your visualisation abilities, all you need to do is
conjure up an image of your room in your minds eye and youll be able to pick
out the perfect companion to your walls!

Now Im going to give you a few different exercises to develop your


visualisation skills and its up to you to experiment and discover which one
works best for you. Everyone is different and a technique which is easy for me
might be incredibly difficult for you and vice versa. So read on, pick the
exercise which appeals to you the most and practice, practice, practice!

Give it at least a month before you decide to try a different exercise. Just as in
our earlier exercise, when we discovered that our brain will play all kinds of
tricks on us to avoid making changes, even when those changes are for the
better, youll find that these exercises yield WORSE results before you start
seeing any improvement! But stick with them for a while and youll gradually
begin to realise that, slowly but surely, your ability to see things really is
getting better.

LEARNING TO SEE AGAIN

You will need to find somewhere quiet and comfortable where you will be
undisturbed for however long you want to practice your visualisations. Make
sure you are sitting up if you do this in bed, youll find yourself drifting off to
sleep as well and although its likely to lead to the best nights sleep youve had
in ages, its not going to do much for developing your visualisation skills!

Start slow you only need to do this for five minutes at a time to begin with,
but youll want to build up gradually the amount of time you can hold an image
steadily in your mind. Its entirely up to you how long you want to be able to
do this for I know people who can hold an unwavering image in their minds
eye for anything up to an hour, but for most of us, that level of discipline isnt
necessary and it certainly isnt required to be able to visualise your goals and
dreams.

Now what Im about to ask you to do sounds easy and its true that its simple,
but it can be incredibly difficult to just see something! At first, you may only
find yourself being able to envisage something for a second or two before
losing the image this is perfectly normal. This is also why we start off only
practicing for five minutes hard work is tiring! You dont want to dishearten
yourself. Take it nice and slow and youll soon find that it becomes second
nature. Every time you lose an image or your mind starts wandering, gently
bring it back and think about what you want to see again. Eventually, your
mind will get the message.

There are a number of different exercises you can use, so its up to you which
one you choose just promise yourself that youll do it for a month before

deciding that you want to try a different one. The chances are high that youll

start seeing definite improvement before that months up and you might not
even need to do any more work your goal is simply to be able to visualise
well enough to plant the picture of your dream into your subconscious.

Exercise One

Light a candle. It doesnt really matter much what type or colour, but ideally,
you want to be using an unscented candle and one which is tall and has many
hours of burning time in it using the same candle day after day will help
create a little ritual that sends a signal to your mind that you are about to do
some visualisation practice, which will give you a little head start on getting
into the right, receptive mindset to get the most benefit from your
visualisation work.

Look at the candle flame. Watch how it sways ever so gently. Look at the
different colours within the flame, how there is a slight aura around the
burning wick, fix every little aspect into your minds eye. Then close your eyes
and recreate what you were looking at.

The beauty of this exercise is that looking at a flame gives you a base to build
upon because what do you see when you close your eyes? Thats right an
image of the flame! All you need to do is keep it there, adding in as many
details as you can remember.

Exercise Two

Pick a geometric shape. It doesnt matter what it can be a square, circle,


triangle, rectangle whatever you like. Now choose a colour, preferably a

primary one. Paint your chosen shape in your chosen colour onto a piece of

Prop up the card in front of you so that you can see it easily and gaze at the
image youve created. Now close your eyes. Youll see an image of your shape
in the opposite colour, as if by magic! So if youve painted a red circle, close
your eyes and youll see a green one. Again, all you need to do is keep the
image fixed.

You can carry your card with you so that if you have a few spare moments or
you want to have a quick break, you can look at your card and imagine your
shape in your mind. As time goes on, youll find that youll need your card less
and less, and if you want a break from your first shape after a week or so of
working with it, simply make a new card with a different one!

Exercise Three

This exercise is good because you can use it to build up your ability to recreate
all your senses as well as sight.

Get a piece of fruit. An apple is good, but you can use anything an orange,
banana, kiwifruit, etc. Hold it up in front of you and examine it closely, noting
carefully every flaw and freckle.

When you think you have committed the vision of the fruit to memory, close
your eyes and conjure it up. See the fruit in your hand, remember exactly
what it looked like and recreate it down to the tiniest detail. If you find that
you are struggling to hold the image, simply open your eyes, look at the fruit
once more and begin the process all over again.

Now do the same with your sense of smell. Sniff the fruit, inhale its scent

deeply. Our sense of smell is strongly associated with memory the smell of

cakes baking can take us straight back to making cakes with our mother so if

you can work on evoking smell in your thoughts, not only will you be able to
add extra dimension to your visualisations, you can also use it to help you for
occasions when you need to remember details, e.g. job interviews or exams.

When you have the aroma fixed in your mind, put the fruit to one side and
work on recreating that scent from memory. Every time you breathe in, re-
experience that smell, knowing that it is just your imagination but very real
nevertheless.

While were at it, lets work on our taste as well. After all, if one of your goals
is to live the high life, youre going to want to be dining out in fancy
restaurants, and what better way to manifest that than to know in advance
how amazing the food will be?

Take a bite out of your fruit. Hold the piece in your mouth for a moment,
letting yourself salivate, before slowly starting to chew, experiencing the
texture and flavour as fully as you can before swallowing. Then relive that
experience visualise yourself taking a bite out of the fruit and remember how
it felt and tasted. You might find yourself chewing instinctively, even though
there is nothing in your mouth. This is fine, but ideally, you want to simply
recreate the experience in your mind we want to programme your
subconscious rather than have physical experiences.

So there you are three exercises to help you add another string to your bow.
Our mind is the most powerful tool we have, so its well worth putting in the
effort to get it into shape because that hard work will reap dividends in no
time.

MEDITATION IS WHAT YOU NEED

So far weve focused on using subliminal messaging to expand your horizons


and performed exercises to discover what we really want out of life and what
we really SHOULD be wanting out of life. Now were going to move on a little
and examine how we can develop our psychic and spiritual side.

Ever had a psychic reading and been told that you have psychic abilities? Know
a friend who has? Well Im here to tell you that EVERYONE is psychic to one
degree or another. We ALL have those moments of intuition that we cant
really explain, when we simply KNEW that something was true, even if we
couldnt have possibly known how we knew. Left untended, these abilities
remain as nothing more than the occasional flash of insight, but if you work on
developing them, just like anything else, youll get better and better at using
them and knowing when something is a genuine psychic message and when
its just wishful thinking.

If you truly want to harness the power of your mind, first you need to be able
to still the mind, in order to be able to focus it. The reason why our 11 day
exercise was so successful is because, once you got used to allowing your
subconscious free expression, you were no longer distracted by the constant
babble that our conscious mind subjects us to. Your mind was still and focused
on the task at hand, with astounding results.

But theres only so many times you can perform that particular exercise
eventually youll run out of useful affirmations to work with and youll need to
be devoting your time and energy to living your life the way you were always
meant to. However, that doesnt mean that its no longer useful to have a two

way relationship with your subconscious and this is where meditation comes
in.

Ideally, you need to meditate every day and view this as an ongoing part of
your daily routine. Once youve got into the habit, youll find that its a very
calm and relaxing way to spend a few minutes and youll carry the benefits
with you long after youve completed a meditation.

And that really is all you need to spare start with a few minutes, then add a
couple more every week until youve worked your way up to 20 at the most,
every day, twice a day if possible. Not much, is it? Just as when we did our 11
day exercise, we found our mind coming up with all sorts of ways to distract
and divert us, the same will happen when we start trying to meditate regularly.
This is normal and you need to IGNORE it! In fact, dont just ignore it use an
affirmation to reprogramme your mind to accept daily meditation as the way
your routine is going to be from now on. Tell yourself I meditate for 20
minutes every day.

Now there have been plenty of books written about meditation as a subject by
itself its a very broad topic and there are many, many different types of
meditation available for you to experiment with. Im going to leave it to you to
research more deeply if this is a subject that fascinates you. You might want to
look into whether there are classes local to you that will help you develop your
meditative practice while you build up the confidence to go it alone.

But Im not going to leave you completely in the dark! Im going to give you a
very simple technique that ANYONE can do and you might decide that this is
all you need. Thats the beauty of your personal quest for spiritual

enlightenment its personal to YOU! So its up to you to decide what you


want to include and whats useful for you.

The first step is to settle yourself comfortably in a quiet room, preferably with
dim lighting. Ideally, you want to be sitting cross legged on the floor, but if
that isnt right for you, then a straight backed chair that allows you to sit up
with your feet firmly on the floor is also a good base to start from. You want to
be upright and supported if needed, possibly with a cushion under your knees
or at the small of your back. Whatever is most comfortable for you.

If youre REALLY not comfortable sitting up, then you can try meditate lying
down, but the danger with this position is that youll be so relaxed youll fall
asleep, which is NOT the purpose of meditation, even if you have a great
nights sleep after a session!

Once you have seated yourself comfortably, I want you to take a deep breath
and tense your toes. Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze and relax! Move up to the
arch of your foot and squeeze that as tight as you can, holding for a few
moments before releasing it. Move all the way up your body repeating this
process of tension and relaxation, going through your ankles, your shins, your
knees, your hips, your abdomen, your chest, your shoulders, your elbows, your
wrists, your hands, your neck and then finally your face. This gradual moving
up the body of tension followed by relaxation will signal to your body and by
extension, your mind that you are about to meditate, helping you settle and
be ready to focus your mind.

Now that your body is relaxed, you need to state to yourself I am going to
meditate for x minutes. You may find it helpful to set an alarm for the

amount of time you want to be meditating for so that youre not tempted to

disturb your concentration and check how long youve got left, but if you do
this, make sure its a gentle alarm, preferably one which starts softly and builds
in volume so that you are not startled out of the gentle, relaxed state youll
have worked so hard to achieve.

As you begin your meditative practices, youll find that youll get a visit from
the fidget babies. Youll want to scratch, cough, shift position, anything to
draw attention to your body and away from your inner mind. Again, you can
use affirmations to help combat this I meditate without distraction from my
body.

Now that you are settled and quiet, turn your focus to your breath. Most
meditations revolve around breathing and your awareness of the cycle of air
coming into your lungs and out again.

There are a couple of simple techniques you can use to meditate with. One is
to count your breath in for 6 beats and then breath out for 6 beats. Continue
this cycle of breathing in for 6 and out for 6 for however long your meditation
is scheduled to last.

Alternatively, you can count each breath until you get to 10 and then start
counting from 1 to 10 again, repeating for as long as required.

If you prefer to use a mantra, then one of your affirmations is ideal. If, for
example, happiness is your goal, simply recite to yourself silently in your mind
I am happy as you breathe in, then I am happy as you breathe out, over
and over and over.

before deciding youd like to try something different. As with so many new

exercises, things get worse before they get better and you might find that you
start off being able to focus with little difficulty but after a week of practice,
youve lost all control. Stick with it. It WILL get better!

As you attempt to focus your mind on whatever youve chosen, you may well
find that all sorts of strange thoughts popping into your head, things ranging
from what you need to buy the next time you go shopping to that witty
comeback you wished youd used the other day. You might find it helpful to
keep a piece of paper handy to jot these down to pay attention to them at a
later time or if this is too distracting, simply instruct your mind that you will
deal with that later.

Dont set your expectations too high to begin with. Most people think that
meditation is easy. Counting breaths? How hard could that be?! But the
reality is that mastering ANY new skill takes time and effort and meditation is
no different. If your mind is not used to self-examination, it will resist your
attempts to gain control over it.

Some people even find that, far from entering into a relaxed state when they
sit to meditate, their mind starts speeding up and its really rather
uncomfortable! This is usually what leads some people to believe that theyre
physically incapable of meditating. EVERYONE is capable of meditating some
will find it harder than others, thats all and knowing that what youre going
through is perfectly normal helps you to stick with it until youre past the initial
hurdles, which crop up because the mind isnt used to being the centre of
attention without external stimuli to distract it. Again, you can use subliminal
messaging in between sessions to help adjust your mind to the notion of

Dont be disheartened if you find that meditation is harder than you expected
it DOES get easier with time! And you have the extra trick of subliminal
messaging up your sleeve to ease the way. In a very short span, youll see the
rewards in deeper and quieter states of awareness, which will spread their
effect through every waking moment.

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

Now that youre starting to really explore the inner workings of your mind,
were going to turn our attention to developing the innate psychic ability that
we all have. For some people, this will be easier than others if youre
someone whos always been spontaneous, doing things because they seemed
like a good idea at the time, youve probably got a closer connection to your
sixth sense than someone who always thinks everything through carefully,
weighing up the pros and cons before making a decision.

Well Im here to tell you that between your head and your heart, your HEART is
usually right. And the more you listen to your heart, the more youll have those
flashes of intuition that you just KNOW are right.

It can be hard to learn to listen to your gut, especially if youre someone whos
always been more intellect driven, but the more you do it, the easier it
becomes.

To take a slightly frivolous example, lets say that youre faced with the choice
between two holiday destinations. The second you were told about that
holiday learning how to windsurf, your gut was screaming at you to go, that
this would be something out of the ordinary for you, something which would
take you out of your comfort zone, even if the cost is higher than your other
option spending a week in a self-catering chalet set in beautiful countryside,
but far inland.

Listening to your head, you do the maths and you decide upon the chalet. Its
somewhere youve been before, you know the area and you have a perfectly

Listening to your heart, you decide to try something different and not only do
you have a whale of a time, you make a load of new friends and discover that
you love windsurfing so much, youre going to train to teach others in your
spare time. That holiday is, quite literally, life changing for you.

But Steve, you say. Life doesnt work like that. A holiday is just a holiday and
thats a silly example.

Speaking from experience, all choices are NOT the same and although we can
never know what would have happened if wed followed a different path, we
certainly do know whats going to happen if we follow the same one we always
have well end up in exactly the same place we always have. When you get a
strong message from your intuition to make a choice that isnt what you
normally would, LISTEN TO IT!!! Your inner mind knows a great deal more than
it usually lets on, so if its taking the time out to try and tell you something,
then you can be sure that its a message worth paying attention to.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM

One of the best ways to open yourself up to messages from your subconscious
is to keep a dream diary. Journaling is a very useful tool any way in tracking
your progress as you work towards developing your psychic and spiritual
abilities, so you may well want to start making notes every day on anything
youve noticed as you start working through the exercises in this book.

A dream diary used specifically to keep a record of your dreams is particularly


important during this process. It will help you open up to any predictions or
messages from your inner mind and assist you in letting go and learning to
trust your gut.

But Steve, you say. I NEVER remember my dreams!

Dont worry. We can work on that. You have the power of subliminal
messaging at your fingertips, remember? Not only can you use a subliminal
affirmation to tell yourself that you WILL remember your dreams, as you drift
off to sleep, repeat your affirmation I remember my dreams clearly and in
detail. Your subconscious will hear and soon you WILL be remembering your
dreams.

What is most important is that you get into the habit of recording SOMETHING
every day, as soon as you wake. The longer you leave it before you write down
your dream, the more youll forget, never to remember again. If you arent a
morning person and wont be able to scribble anything down, keep a voice
recorder handy by your bed instead.

write down nothing. The act of recording SOMETHING for that night will
send a signal to your subconscious that you are serious about wanting to
remember your dreams and in next to no time youll find yourself remember
dreams in increasing detail.

As you build up your dream diary, youll gradually start noticing patterns to
your dreams. Make a note of anything which seems significant some dreams
are a clear recreation of a film or TV programme youve watched, so write that
down. Perhaps youve dreamt of a situation which has been bothering you or
a problem which needs a solution write that down. Maybe youre having a
stress dream, like studying for an exam or seeing your teeth fall out, and you
know that this is down to an important event coming up.

WRITE IT ALL DOWN!!!

Soon youll be able to spot what inspired each of your dreams and youll see
those occasions when youve had a flash of psychism. The beauty of keeping a
dream diary is that you have a written record that will PROVE that youve
predicted an event before it happened and once you start seeing more and
more proof that all the techniques you are learning and developing really
WORK, itll become easier and easier to listen to your gut without doubting it. 42

can support this work with subliminal affirmations, such as I have accurate
psychic abilities.

There are various types of psychic skill, such as telepathy (reading someones
mind) or precognition (predicting the future) and different people will find that
they are better at some skills than others. If you look around, you may well
find that there are courses on spiritual development in your area, but theres a
lot you can do from the comfort of your own home.

The more you practice these exercises, the better the results will be. You dont
have to do them every day, but the more you do, the faster youll see
improvement. Ideally you want to be doing any of these exercises three or
four times a week. Only do one per session, but you can mix and match these
as you like, unlike previous exercises. Remember to note the results in your
diary!

If youd like to hone your predictive skills, then make predictions! It really is
that simple. However, you want to be doing this mindfully rather than just
randomly throwing predictions out there.

A good time to do this will be after your daily meditation, when your mind is
already relaxed and open. Think yourself forward to the next day. What are
you doing? This is where your visualisation skills will really come in handy
you will be surprised at just how vivid the images you get can be.

Let your mind explore the day to come. What do you do? Who do you meet?
What happens that surprises you? Is there an unexpected email or letter?
What kind of conversations do you have? Write down three things that are
out of your ordinary routine and at the end of the next day, before you make
your next set of predictions, note how accurate you were.

Over time, as your skill improves, you can turn your attention to other people
with their permission, of course! Whats their day going to be like? What can
you see them doing? Where are they? Who are they surrounded by? Write
down three predictions that arent things you could easily guess and then
check with your friend at the end of the following day how accurate you were.
DONT give them your predictions in advance! Write them down and then ask
your friend to tell them about your day before you give them your predictions
to eliminate as much as you possibly can their simply telling you what you
want to hear. People wont deliberately tell you youre right (well, not
always!), but its natural for friends to want you to succeed, so they may well
misremember events to fit your prediction. Also be aware that many people
find any idea of psychic ability frightening, so if you ARE accurate, they may be
too afraid to tell you, so asking about their day first will give you the chance to
check your notes without their interfering.

If you have a friend who is equally interested in developing their psychic


abilities, you can try some distance telepathy. Ive done this exercise over the
phone with a friend who was hundreds of miles away at the time and when we
were able to get together to compare notes, it was incredible how similar they
were.

One of you draws a simple doodle. You can start with simple geometric shapes
or you can make it a little more complex. Whatever you draw, try to make it as
random as you can, not something you think the person receiving could
possibly guess.

You can be in the same room, of course you dont have to do this over the
phone. Just make sure that when you draw, you have your backs to each other
so that theres no chance of watching the hand movement and recreating the
image from that. Or even better be in separate rooms.

Perform this exercise in complete silence. As you draw your picture, focus on
transmitting your actions to your partner. When you are done, tell them
youve finished and then attempt to transmit the image into their mind
again, if youve been doing your visualisation practice, this should be really
easy for you!

When they feel they have the image, they need to draw it on their piece of
paper. When theyve finished recreating what they think you sent, compare
pictures I promise you, you will be amazed!

If you dont have a friend who is interested in practising ESP with you, dont
worry there are plenty of online resources free for you to while away your
time developing your psychic skills. Zener cards are a good tool (a set of five
simple symbols you predict which one has been selected) and if you do a
search for online ESP tests, youll find many great exercises that will all help
you take your psychism to the next level.

YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE

The title of this book is Change Your Mind PHYSICAL, mental, psychic and
spiritual development. So far, we havent touched on physical health at all.
Now in my experience, people who have made the effort to work through the
exercises in this book on a quest for personal enlightenment find that they
automatically pay attention to their health as a positive side effect of all the
work and effect theyve been putting in. Its almost impossible to pay
attention to your mental health without that having a positive knock on impact
on your physical health. However, that doesnt mean that you should neglect
the physical aspect of your life and subliminal messaging is excellent to
nudge you to exactly where you need to be to enjoy optimal health.

Now being healthy can mean all sorts of things. It can mean fitness maybe
the ability to run long distances or lift heavy weights or swim multiple laps. It
can mean being the optimal weight for your height. It can mean never
suffering from disease. Whatever your health goal, subliminal messaging can
help yet again, developing your mind will develop your body and the REAL
work out is a subliminal one.

Were being told that were in an obesity epidemic, that the National Health
Service will have to spend billions healing people just because theyre fat. As
such, theres a HUGE industry surrounding weight loss and you can buy all
sorts of pills and potions promising a quick solution when the chances are high
theyll have little or no effect and any weight lost will be regained the moment
you stop taking them. You can have surgery, with all its inherent risks and the
chances of needing further surgery to remove the excess skin left behind by a

dramatic weight loss. You can join a slimming club and be supported by a
group of your peers, all hoping, just like you, to lose those extra pounds.

Wherever you live, the chances are high that theres a slimming club near you,
(usually) chaired by someone who slimmed successfully with that particular
programme, so is perfectly placed to offer fitness and dietary advice in a safe
environment where people can share their triumphs and challenges.

During the course of a meeting, attendees are weighed, the results noted and
then they are offered either encouragement or disapproval depending on how
their weeks gone.

This carrot and stick approach works well for a lot of people. Nobody wants to
be the one to stand up in front of the group and face humiliation when they
learn that theyve put ON weight so they work that little bit harder to make
sure that next time, theyll be top of the class.

While the information and advice passed out at these slimming clubs is
perfectly sound and the concept clearly works well for a lot of people, for
others, the meetings are more like social events, a chance to catch up with
likeminded friends for an evening. Given that often attendees retire to a local
coffee house after a meeting to enjoy a cuppa and a muffin, it does call into
question how committed they REALLY are.

Just like the irony of completing a run for cancer, only to light up a cigarette
once past the finish line, there are those who do things because they want to
look like theyre committed to a cause but they dont really care about what
theyre doing. If someone doesnt want to lose weight, all the slimming clubs

Do you recognise yourself in this? Have you tried countless diets and clubs
only to fall back into bad habits because the call of those chocolate biscuits
was just too strong to resist? Its not the fault of the slimming clubs theyre
doing their best to give out good information, but as soon as youve left their
meeting, all that good advice has gone in one ear and out the other!

It doesnt take much to see how much of a boost this would give to your
slimming efforts, does it?

We can take this a step further and use subliminal messaging as a way of
improving our fitness level as well. Whether youre a gym member or you
prefer to do it yourself, you can use subliminal messaging to help keep you
dedicated to your fitness regime and ensure that your body receives the
maximum benefit from your hard work.

Just as with the slimming club, Im sure we all know people who see the gym as
more of a social outlet than somewhere to improve their fitness levels.
Indeed, they may even have given up on some level at the possibility that the
gym will really make any difference to your fitness, without realising that
theyre actually sabotaging their own efforts. Maybe they go for a beer after
training maybe they dont push themselves enough, giving up at the first sign
of a sweat. Maybe theyre embarrassed at looking like theyre trying too hard
or are simply afraid and intimidated by the dazzling array of equipment on
offer.

Whatever the reason, subliminal messaging can remove any blocks or limits
youve placed on yourself, allowing you to make full use of the equipment
available to you with better results than you could ever have imagined.

Such a list of affirmations will ensure that you develop a fitness programme
that is perfect for you needs and that you STICK with it.

Youve heard the saying my body is a temple, right? Well if youve read this
book all the way through, youll understand that this temple starts and ends
with your mind healthy body, healthy mind and vice versa. Its impossible to
improve one without seeing a positive effect on the other. As you work
through the exercises, ideas and affirmations in this book, you WILL see a

Some of the exercises might not sound like much. THINK your way to your
lifes purpose? Everyone knows that anything worth having is hard WORK,
right?

Theres a very wise saying do what you love and youll never work another
day in your life. If you stuck with the 11 day exercise I gave you at the
beginning of this book, youll know what you should be doing to achieve
genuine happiness and fulfillment. Will it fall into your lap as if by magic with
no extra effort on your part? Of course not!

But what subliminal messaging brings to this process is the right mental
attitude to achieve things you previously thought were out of reach or just not
possible for someone like you. The ONLY limits in this world are the ones we
place on ourselves you CAN break out of that box youve put yourself in!

I guarantee you that if you start working your way through this programme, it
wont be long before youll look back and youll say if somebody had told me
not so long ago that this is what my life would be like, I would never have
