The dam, at 741 ft (226 m), is one of the highest gravity dams in the world
The third largest reservoir in India the first being Indira Sagar Dam and
second Nagarjunasagar Dam.
Described as "New Temple of Resurgent India" by Jawaharlal Nehru
Nangal Dam is another dam downstream of Bhakra Dam. However, sometimes both
the dams together are called Bhakra-Nangal Dam though they are two separate dams.
The dam provides irrigation to 10 million acres (40,000 km) of fields
in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan

Uri Dam is a 480 MW hydroelectric power station on the Jhelum River near Uri in Baramula
district of the Jammu and Kashmir
It is located very near to the Line of Control, border between India and Pakistan.
The project cost about Rs. 33 billion (about 450 million EUR or 660 million USD) and was
completed in 1997.
The Indus Waters Treaty was signed in Karachi on September 19, 1960 by Prime Minister of
India Jawaharlal Nehru and President of Pakistan Ayub Khan.

The Tungabhadra Dam is constructed across the Tungabhadra River, a tributary of the Krishna
River
It is a multipurpose dam serving irrigation, electricity generation, flood control, etc.
The main architect of the dam was Dr Thirumala Iyengar, an engineer from Madras.
This is a joint project of erstwhile Hyderabad state and erstwhile Madras Presidency when the
construction was started; later it became a joint project of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh after
its completion in 1953.

The Gandhi Sagar Dam is one of the four major dams built on India's Chambal River.
The dam's foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 7
March 1954
The dam's reservoir area is the second-largest in India (after the Hirakud Reservoir), and
attracts a large number of migratory and non-migratory birds throughout the year.
The Chambal River (known in ancient times as the Chamranyavati River) raises in the Vindhya
Range at an elevation of 853 metres west-southwest of the town of Mhow, near Indore.
