BCP Texas Talking Token Economy

Undesirable Behavior Targeted:

Students interrupting by talking while others are talking or during instruction. This detracts from
learning because the speaker must stop talking and it distracts other students.

Desirable (expected) Behavior Targeted:

Students should speak only when called on during instruction. If a student has a question, they can
either raise their hand and wait to be called on by the teacher or they can hold it until Q and A time
after instruction. In order to elicit full class participation, the teacher may use tokens with student
names to call on students randomly.

Types of positive reinforcements - Reinforced when & how?

1. Immediate R+ Token system students will receive a token when exhibiting the desired behavior.
2. Ongoing R+ Students will apply the tokens received to one of three boxes labeled with three activities.
3. Overall R+ After 50 tokens have been given out, the activity with the most tokens will be completed
within one week.
How you will quickly & easily administer all R+ I will hand tokens to students during instruction, and
then students will place their token in their chosen activity box at the end of class.

Interactive Learning Activity

113.16. Social Studies, Grade 5 (13) Economics. The student understands patterns of work and
economic activities in the United States. The student is expected to:
(A) compare how people in different parts of the United States earn a living, past and present;

Playing one of the following games will be a fun way to teach Fifth grade students about our US economy
both past and present: History of each game will be given as well as the era and geographical location
of the US it was created in.

Monopoly - Monopoly is a way to demonstrate that an economy which rewards wealth creation is better
than one in which monopolists work under few constraints
Life -The Game of Life simulates a person's travels through his or her life, from college to retirement, with
jobs, marriage, and possible children along the way.
Pay Day - Pay Day is played on a one-month calendar with 31 days. During the game, players will have to
deal with various bills and expenses, but will also have the opportunity to make deals on property and
earn money. At the end of each month, players are paid their salary (the same for each player) and
must then pay off all outstanding bills, taking out a loan if necessary.

Explain HOW you will Teach the Desired Behaviors: The desired behavior will be taught in the form of
a read aloud, My Mouth Is a Volcano, an entertaining way to teach children the value of respecting
others by listening and waiting for their turn to speak.

Explain HOW you will Teach the Plan: At the beginning of the semester students will be shown short
video clips of each game and how they are played and the object of them.

Provide options Other more current or computer based similar interactive games may be played in place
of the three listed above. This BCP can be used for other targeted behaviors and the Activity can be
altered to any grade level TEK.
