Computerized Grading System

Introduction
Claro M. Recto ICT High School is a small public school in Angeles
City, Pampanga. It was established 8 years ago and is utilizing the
manual system in almost all phases of their school work.

It contains small staff of teachers and personnel. There are

teachers handling as much as 4 to 13 class, aside for being a class
adviser and area coordinator. Majority of the teachers handle 2 to
3 different grade levels.

Developing a Computerized Grading System for CMRICTHS

would make the task of recording and computing grades easier
for the teachers. This will not only benefit the teachers of the
school but will also benefit the students because of the
improvement in the accuracy of calculations and in the
proficiency and productivity of the teachers.

The researcher used the following tools in order to gather data
necessary for the proposed system:
RESULTS OF THE SURVEY
Statement of the Problems
1. What is the current status of the School Grading System at
CMRICTHS?
Objectives:
1. To organize a system that will be used instead current School
Grading System at CMRICTHS which in manual form and needs
to be develop more.
Significance:

Teachers
would be able to record and compute for the grades of their
students faster thereby lessening their workload and providing
them with added time to attend to other functions. This in turn
would improve their efficiency as teachers.
Scope:
Security
Delimitations:
Interview
An Interview is defined as method of data gathering in which a
person involved in the business process meets with prospective
users wherein the researcher or the interviewer asks questions to
gather some or lot of information from the interviewee. Mostly of
the interviewees are generally current users of the existing
system or might be the potential users of the proposed software.
Because of these the researchers are able to explore more areas
of understanding and expectations in the proposed system.

Observation
Observation is a technique that will be needed as an additional to
the questionnaire. It is the main source of information in the field
research. The researcher goes in the field observes the conditions
in their natural state and obtains first-hand information about
how activities are conducted. This method is very helpful to the
researchers because they could actually observe how learning is
gained and how the ideas and information are being taught to
the students.

Based on Jim Harvey's speech structures

2. Does the evaluation of grades takes too much time?
3. Can a duplicitous person easily access or alter the important
grade records?
4. What system that needs to be developed to ensure data
security and consistency?
2. To generate a system that will reduce the time involved in
evaluating grade reports.
3. To secure each information going and out of the system for
reliable and accurate reports.
4. To create a Computerized Grading System
for CMRICTHS.

Students
can now look forward to better lesson since their teachers would
have added time to prepare for them their
lesson plans.

Descriptive Research Method
Descriptive research is used to obtain information concerning the
current status of the phenomenon to describe what exists with
respect to variables or conditions in a situation. The objective of
this method is to seek the truth from the current environment
which varies in forms such as amplified extent knowledge.

Prognostic Research
According to thesiswork.com, Prognostic Research refers to any
scientific investigation in which the main and stated purpose is to
predict the future operation of factors investigated, so that
inevitable things that must be done maybe controlled more
intelligently on the basis of knowledge about the analyzed trend
of the occurrence over definitely selected period of time.
The researchers used this method in order to evaluate whether
the proposed system will be practical to use in the next
generation or different kind of standards must be undertaken in
order for the study to be more profitable to the society in the next
ages to come.

Respondent of the Study

The proponents choose the Claro M. Recto Information and
Communication Technology High School as a source for
respondents in this study. The students in CMRICTHS from
different year levels: Grade 10, Grade 9, Grade 8, and Grade 7.
Other that the students, the proponents also selected school
personnel such as the teacher-in-charge and teachers. Only
students and staffs form this school were considered respondents
of the study.

According to socialresearchmethods.net, Sampling is the process

of the selecting units (e.g., people, organizations) from a
population of interest so that by studying the sample we may
fairly generalize our results back to the population from which
they were chosen.

The population of Claro M. Recto Information and

Communication Technology High School is approximately 500+
excluding the faculty staff and school personnel. Our target is to
have 10% of the population as a respondent. Thus, the assumed
sample size for the study is 50 respondents which consist of: 50
students comprising from the different year levels.

Sampling method and technique

Population and Locale of the Study

The respondents in this study will be the students and teachers of
CMRICTHS who are using manual system in evaluating grading
systems.
The study will be conducted in CMRICTHS where the proposed
system will be implemented. Likewise, the school is equipped
with the necessary facilities and equipment to facilitate the said
system.

As presented in the table, the data shows the different sections in

CMRICTHS. It is shown that 100% of the students population, the
respondensts, is in their early adolescence. Thus, the respondents
are the right people to be part of the evaluation process of the
study.
As shown in the table, there are eight (8) student respondents or
16% are in Grade 10, fifteen (15) or 30% are in Grade 9, eighteen
(18) or 36% are in Grade 8 and lastly, nine (9) or 18% are in Grade
7.
It can be said that the majority of the student respondents are in
Grade 8 level and they are qualified respondents for the study
since they can share and contribute knowledge for the
improvement of the school.
Questionnaire
A questionnaire is a written list of questions to be answered. This
is the main tool for information gathering. The form of question
was a multiple-choice format. This type represents a question
followed by a series of options pre-determined by the researcher
or based on researches and thoroughly validated by the
researchers adviser, panelists and trial respondents. The
researcher also conducted an interview to the prospective users
of the existing system to assess its process.
The first part of the questionnaire seeks to find out the
respondents profile. While the second part of the questionnaire
is asking the respondents if they have an idea about the
CMRICTHS Computerized Grading System. Lastly, the
questionnaire contains an assessment of the respondents about
the existing and proposed system. Aside from that the
questionnaire is also asking for any additional features that they
would want to see in the proposed system.

Preparation of Instruments
The researchers prepared and formulated questionnaire/s and
interview questions initially from the books, unpublished and
published resources gathered from online resources.

The researchers submitted the questionnaire to the instructors

for comments and other inputs. These people were not a part of
the actual respondents to be used in the study. Instead they were
asked to validate the questionnaire for clarity.

Validation of Instruments
The draft of the questionnaire was distributed to the trial
respondents for content validation. Their comments and
suggestions were considered for the improvement of the
instrument. The initial set of questionnaires was distributed and
an unstructured interview was conducted with the respondents to
clarify the opinions that reflect in the questionnaire.

Data Gathering Procedures

Initially, the researcher asked permission to conduct the study.
When were given the permission, we distributed the
questionnaires to the respondents. The respondents were given
ample time to answer the questions and said questionnaires were
retrieved on that same day.

Software Development Methodology

There are number of reasons because of which ongoing project
may stop. In order to overcome the hurdles in the future it is
essential to make a brief study of the possibilities of the future
problems and likewise steps must be taken for avoiding such
problems. This will help the project to be carried on nonstop
without any future hurdles and it also help to save time and
money. Spiral model, is one such model which is useful in such
situations where the future planning is essentials to eliminate the
possible risks in the future. It helps to guide the risks that the
project may face in the mere future and what steps should be
taken to overcome such risks. The Spiral model has a unique
process design which helps to eliminate the risks in the future.

The spiral model is one of the most realistic approaches which are
very essential for the development of the large systems. By spiral
model the developers can also apply the prototyping and the
customers evolutions approach to make the project more unique
and successful.
