Part 1

1. What is meant by reuptake in neural communication? Why is this mechanism

important for explaining our behavior? In the text cite (Myers & Dewall, page 40)

Reuptake occur when excess neurotransmitter is reabsorbed by sending neuron. They

can also drift away or be broken down by enzymes. This mechanism is important or

influence on us because they tell us when we need to eat, sleep, to move. We can find

a huge number of neurotransmitter, like Gaba, serotonin, acetylcholine.

2. While calculating a math problem, Toby tends to look toward the right side of

his visual field. Why? The brain is divide en two hemispheres, Because the right

side of the brain control muscles in the left-hand where is the science and math,

language, logic and analytic thought. Could be Toby right side tends to be the

dominant side.

3. Why is the endocrine system the slower component of our nervous systems?

According to Myers & Dewall, page 46, the endocrine system, conceals hormones

into the bloodstream, basically is long the procedure to travel from gland to the target

tissue. The nervous system compared with text message and the endocrine like

delivers and out-of-date letter.

4. Describe the role of the parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic

system tranquilities our body preserving its dynamism, in other words the motivation

is slow. This nervous system controls the normal operation of the body, such of

digestion, blood pressure and respiration. Book cited Myers & Dewall, page 343.

5. Consider brain growth and development: what process explains why we have

fewer synapses in adult hood compared to when we were toddlers? Why does
UNIT REPORT 2 3

this process occurs? We have this synapse because the influence of hormone, or

rapid growth, a lot of neuron are organizing also if we dont used it with loose it, and

the managed shuts down (pruning) According to Myers & Dewall, page 127

6. Describe the research method known as The Strange Situation. Do you believe

it is an ethical research approach to studying attachment? Please explain. The

method was used for Mary Ainsworth was a experiment the strange situation the

observed some infant from six month and then one year, 60% of the infant wanted

attachment from the parents left and came back. Other infant seeing indifferent when

the mother leaves the room they have insecure attachment. I think this research is

ethical, because we can see some child behavior through life. Cite in the book page

7. In one sentence, describe Erick Eriksons overall approach. Trust, autonomy,

initiative and Industrial and opposite words is that became us from childhood to

adulthood.

8. Describe how testosterone can influence sexual orientation. Males and females

have testosterone, some studies evidence the influence in human behavior. The

evidence supports a role for prenatal testosterone exposure in the development of sex-

typed interests in childhood, as well as in sexual orientation in later life, at least for

some individuals. Cite in the book Myers and Dewall page 152

Part II

My Stroke of Insight, by Jill Bolte Taylor, I found her informative and entertaining at the

same time. The right and the left hemisphere had different personality and think differently, the

right is parallel, process the present, picture, connected to feeling and sense. The left hemisphere

is serial, processor lineal and methodic, thinking in the past and the future, and thinking in

language.

Dr. Taylor talks about the brain chatter, and she explains the little voice that reminds us to

do certain things (buy milk, and alert us) that we are separated from others, that we are a single

individual, The I am. I really like the part when she talks about the inner peace, her body was

surrendered, and she found inner peace inside, her left hemisphere was silenced, she was

disconnected to the world., connected to the right hemisphere (Lalaland).

My feeling about Dr. Taylors dialog is that we need our two-hemispheres working

together to function in our body, she explained how her body was working since she woke up

that morning trying to do exercises, her brain talked to her that something was wrong. She had

the opportunity to experiences her own brain having a stroke, she could not talk and understand

language, she was ill for eight years, this is amazing things that happen in our brain when it is

injured. I enjoyed her talk about her body being enormous like the genie out of his bottle, and she

felt in other dimension, with lovely people, and peace. Also, when she asked Who are we? And

Dr. Taylor answer that we are two cognitive minds, and we need to expend our time with the

right hemisphere, connected with our feelings now in this present time.
