Academic
1. Frequent absences, lateness to school a) A Behavior Contract would be beneficial for this
characteristic because it places the student
accountable to his/her academic responsibilities.
With health obligations and appointments
considered, the students academic responsibilities
remain clear.
b) Check-In/Out is a great strategy for this
characteristic because the teacher can monitor
exactly where, when, and what a student has missed
in the school day.
2. Limited concentration, alertness, a) Choice Boards would be beneficial for this
vitality characteristic because the student can choose what
activity he/she would like to do and be engaged in.
b) Constant Time Delay is a strategy that would be
helpful for this characteristic because of the use of
short time intervals, repetition, and prompting,
useful for a child who has trouble concentrating for
long periods of time.
Social/ School (Skills)
1. Chronic pain, negative body image a) Illustration and Art would be helpful for students
and impact of disability on identity and with this characteristic because it helps to relieve
social interactions stress, promotes self-expression, and unity in the
human condition.

b) Praise Notes would be helpful for this


characteristic because it provides positive
reinforcement, words of affirmation, and a culture of
positivity in the classroom.
2. Mobility issues a) Organizational Strategies would be beneficial for
students who may not be able to freely maneuver
around school grounds because they can set up
where all their assignments and tools go. Examples
would be a student mailbox where all submitted
work can be found or an organizational form that
keeps track of materials and assignments that are
needed in class.
b) Computer Assisted Instruction would be
beneficial for students who have limited mobility
because computers are stationery and provide a lot
of information, activities, and monitoring in one
sitting. Students with OHI may also have experience
and be adept in computer tasks.
Behavior/ Organization
1. Learned helplessness, loss of sense a) Practicing Positive Self-Talk would be helpful
of control because it can help the student change his/her
mindset from helplessness to placing success on
effort and what he/she can do in pieces to achieve a
task or assignment.
b) Chaining would be a good strategy for this
characteristic because it breaks down a large task
into sequential steps, helping the student feel
victorious and in control over their actions.
2. Lack of stamina/ strength, fatigue a) Visual Schedules would help because the student
can envision and pace his/her energy throughout the
day.
b) Student Choice would be a good strategy because
the student is able to decide what activity he/she can
do considering his/her physical composure.
