Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome! I am excited to be your math
teacher and ready for a successful year!
The Cobb County School District
(CCSD) math curriculum will help you
develop mathematical talents through
collaborative learning, critical thinking,
and problem solving through real world
applications. Your learning will focus on
becoming an effective problem-solver,
not only in the classroom, but also for
success throughout life.
Please keep this paper as a reference in
your folder. These guidelines will help
create a safe, cooperative, and successful
learning environment for all students in
class.

SYLLABUS
The CCSD curriculum implements the
Georgia Standards of Excellence and will
prepare students to pass the Georgia
Milestones, End of Grade Assessment in
April.

CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION
Math Grade Distribution
Summative Assessments 40%
Formative Assessments 35%
Independent Practice 25%
Summative Assessments
Students will have at two summative
assessments per quarter.
Formative Assessments
Students will have at least 4 formative
assessments per quarter.
Independent Practice
Independent practice will be comprised
of warm-ups, group work, and individual
assignments. Students will have a warm
up every day during the first 10 minutes
of class. Students will have at least 1
independent practice grade per week.
Homework
Homework will be assigned Monday
Wednesday and may be based on student
needs. Homework will always be
explained in class and examples will be
given. Students should refer to class notes
to assist with homework problems.
Notes should be review at least 10
minutes each night.
Interactive Notebook
Students are responsible for keeping up
with their interactive notebooks even
when they are absent. Students have the
opportunity to borrow the teachers or a
classmates notebook in order obtain to
any missing notes.
Grade Recovery Policy (Required if a
grade earned is below 75%)
Students will be required to complete a
grade recovery assignment if he/she earns
a grade below 75%. Students have no
more than 15 school days from the date
an assignment is returned to recover a
grade. If work is not recovered within
the allotted time, the grade will be
finalized.
*Students may opt to recover a grade
above a 75% if they choose. The allotted
time is the same as above.
Assignment Format
Work MUST be shown and be neat
and legible.
If work is not shown, students will
not receive credit for the assignment
and will be required to complete an
additional assignment to recover the
grade.

TUTORING SCHEDULE
Students must arrange transportation
prior to tutoring session.
*It is highly recommended that student notify teacher
24 to 48 hours prior to tutoring session that he/she
will be attending.
AM: 8:00 8:45
PM: 4:30 5:15
A more detailed schedule with specific
teachers and room numbers will be
provided when tutoring begins.
CLASS PROCEDURES
Entering the Room
Enter quietly. Sit in your assigned seat.
Get necessary supplies organized, placing
other materials under your seat. Copy the
instructional framework in your agenda.
Begin working on your warm up
immediately.
Am I on time or am I tardy?
Being on time means you are seated
when the tardy bell has rung. You are not
in the hallway or running through the
door. If you are tardy, do not disturb
others, sign the tardy log, quietly take
your seat and begin your assignment.
Your tardy will be recorded and the
school tardy policy will be followed.
Hall Pass
Students are required to use their agenda
as a hall pass. If you do not have your
agenda, you may not leave the classroom.
You will be issued four destination
passes each quarter, use them wisely.
Request permission, when granted
complete the hall pass form. Passes will
not be issued the first and last 15 minutes
of class.
Leaving Your Seat
You must remain seated at all times
unless otherwise instructed. You must
ask for permission to get out of seat to
sharpen your pencil, throw something
away, etc.
Focusing on the Teacher
During instruction all focus should be on
the teacher. You must remain in your seat.
DO NOT INTERRUPT OR DISTURB
OTHERS.
Students Seeking Help
Students should follow the 3B4-ME rule.
If the teacher is needed, raise your hand,
or place your name tent vertically, and
wait for assistance.
Asking & Answering a Questions
Raise your hand before you ask or answer
a question. When the time is appropriate,
an attempt to address all questions will be
made before moving on. Do not get
frustrated if you are not called on to
answer a question. The goal is for all
students to participate.
When Teacher Needs Your Attention
Clap, Clap. Clap, Clap, Clap.
When you hear the teacher clap, you
repeat the clap and follow these
procedures:
Stop!
Look.
Listen.
Submitting Assignments
All assignments are due by the next class
day (unless otherwise specified). Check
for completeness and staple multiple
pages together before submitting. Refer
to Assignment Format and Grade
Recovery Policy for more information.
Dismissing Students
The bell or an announcement does not
dismiss the class, the teacher does. Make
sure the area around you is clean and
orderly and quietly wait for the teacher to
dismiss the class.
Being Absent
It is the students responsibility to obtain
and make-up any and all missed work
upon entering the classroom.
Assignments will be written on the
classroom calendar and any handouts can
be obtained from the Make-Up Work
section of the classroom. You have the
number of days you missed to complete
missed assignments. Seek explanations
and clarifications from your Study Buddy
before seeing your teacher.
Consumable
Each student will receive one math
consumable textbook. Students are
responsible for keeping up with it. If
they lose it, students will be required to
purchase a replacement.
Calculators
Calculators may be used at school or
home to help solve problems and check
work. Calculators are NOT a substitute
for showing work on assignments.
Manipulatives
Class manipulatives may be requested by
students as needed and should be used
appropriately. If you request or use
manipulatives, it is your responsibility to
return them properly when you are done.
SUPPORTING SCHOOL POLICIES
Teacher-Only Areas
The teacher desks, teacher table,
projector, computer, printer, and enclosed
cabinets are off-limits to students unless
specifically directed by teacher.
Helping vs. Cheating
Friends dont ask friends to cheat! Helping
means that both students understand and
can explain their reasoning. Cheating
implies that both students cannot
effectively explain their reasoning.
Looking at and coping anothers work is
considered CHEATING.
Tidiness & Class Supplies
Everyone is responsible for making sure
that the area or workspace is neat and
clean. All materials should be put away
without being broken, stolen or
misplaced. It is each persons
responsibility to make sure all supplies
stay in the classroom.
Visitors to the Classroom
If a visitor comes into the classroom, stay
in your seat and focus on the assignment.
If the visitor needs my attention, continue
working without getting loud, off task, or
disruptive.
Substitute/Supply Teacher
Treat the Substitute/Supply Teacher with
respect. Sit in your assigned seat, give
out your correct name, and behave well.
If he/she makes a mistake or does not do
a procedure correctly, just follow the
directions given by the teacher.
Inappropriate behavior will receive a
consequence upon our return. Under no
circumstances should anyone receive an
administrative referral. Great reports by
the teacher will be rewarded.
Safety Drills
Students should remain quiet and follow
the procedures and instructions given by
the teachers.
Profanity, Disrespect, Bullying
Inappropriate language or words that
disrespect people such as dumb or
stupid will not be tolerated in class.
Any form of bullying will not be
tolerated and reported immediately to an
administrator.
Vandalism & Theft
Stealing or destroying school, teacher or
student property will be reported directly
to an administrator. This includes writing
on walls, furniture, class materials, and
student property.

9. The student understands all information in newsletter and all grading policies and procedures.
