1.10 Down Hole Motors
The motor is a positive-displacement motor (PDM) through which drilling fluid passes as it is
pumped down the drillstring. The fluid flows through the downhole motors progressive cavities and
the pressure of this fluid causes the rotor to rotate. Torque is then transmitted to the drill bit.

The drilling motor is comprised of 5 basic components;

Dump Valve (or Optional Crossover Sub)
Safety Anti-Drop Device (Optional)
Power-Section Assembly
Bend Assembly (adjustable and fixed)
Bearing Pack Assembly

1.11 Dump Valve

Closed

Open

In a standard motor set-up, a dump valve is used to connect the

motor to the drill string. Mostly, a crossover sub is often used
instead of the dump valve. The dump valve assembly enables the
drill string to fill with mud from the annulus while tripping into
the hole, and enables the drill string to drain while tripping out
of the hole.

The valve uses a spring-loaded piston to close the ports separating

the inside of the tool from the annulus surrounding the tool. When
drilling fluid is not circulating, the spring holds the piston in the up
or open-port position. This allows the fluid to enter or exit the drill
string through the ports and bypass the motor. Dump Value

page 1
1.0 Down Hole Tools
When the mud pumps are turned on, the circulating fluid creates a small pressure drop across the
piston and an attendant force on the piston and spring. The pressure drops and the force increases
as fluid velocity increases. As the circulating drilling fluid reaches the minimum velocity needed to
overcome the spring force holding the piston in the up position, the dump valve is forced into the
down or closed-port position. The fluid then flows through the motor, providing horsepower to turn
the bit. When the mud pumps are turned off and circulation ceases, the piston is forced back into the
up (open) position, allowing drilling fluid to bypass the motor while tripping pipe.

1.12 Anti Drop Device

The Safety Anti-Drop Device is an optional component that provides the ability to remove the motor
components including the drill bit in the unlikely case of a lower connection failure. It is generally
used when tool joints are exposed to excessive loads from extreme drilling applications. The rotor
safety catch device offers protection from possible fishing operations in the hole.

1.13 Power Section

The power section is the portion of the motor that converts hydraulic horsepower into mechanical
horsepower, resulting in drill-bit rotation. The power section consists of only two parts, the rotor and
the stator. When assembled, these two components form a continuous seal along their contact
points. The rotor is an alloy steel bar with helical (multi-lobed) pattern. It is chrome plated to reduce
friction, wear, and corrosion. Other coatings are available, depending on the specific application
and/or environment in which the motor is to be used. The rotors may have provisions for nozzles and
axial bores to bypass flow and extend the flow-rate ranges.

The stator is a length of tubular steel lined with an elastomer compound that is shaped with helical
pattern to mate with the rotor. Various elastomers are available, depending on drilling-fluid type and
bottom hole temperature.

1.14 Coupling
The coupling assembly is attached to the lower end of the rotor and transmits motor rotational
torque and speed to the drive shaft and bit. The coupling assembly converts the eccentric motion of
the rotor to the concentric motion of the drive shaft.

Additionally, the flexible coupling allows the placement of a bend point in its external housing for
steerable or single bend motors. Bent-housing angles range from 0 to 3 in most cases and may be
either fixed or adjustable.

1.15 Bearing Assembly Bearing

Assembly
The bearing assembly supports the motor drive shaft, which in turn transmits
drilling thrust and rotational power to the drill bit. Drilling parameters, such as
Diverter
weight on bit (WOB), circulation rate, and bit pressure drop, directly affect the Cap
bearing assembly. The bearing assembles is a mud-lubricated design that utilises Upper
two types of bearings; thrust and radial. Radial
Bearings

The motor uses a stacked multiple ball-and-race design for the thrust bearings. The Thrust
thrust bearings support the downward force resulting from the WOB and the loads from Bearings

the combination of hydraulic thrust and weight loads from internal components.

Radial support bearings support the radial loads on the drive shaft and regulate the Lower
Radial
flow of drilling fluid through the bearing assembly. Diverted fluid cools and Bearings
lubricates the radial and thrust bearings. The motor uses radial bearings with tungsten
carbide tiles imbedded in a tungsten carbide chip matrix for maximum performance
and superior resistance to radial wear.

Stabilisers
1.20 Integral Stabilisers

Integral Blade Stabiliser

Integral Blade Stabiliser (IBS) are one piece rotating stabiliser

which can be placed near bit or up the drill string. It is a one piece
construction manufactured from high strength alloy steel (non-
magnetic steel optional). It prevents differential sticking of the
drillstring by stabilising the BHA and keeping drill collars and drill
pipes away from the borehole wall. This reduces vibration, drill
pipe whirl, and furthermore, the stabilisation maintains drilling
trajectory whether drilling straight, horizontal, or directional wells.

2.23 Liners
Premium Chromium Liners
Premium liners combine the strength of a forged steel outer shell with the abrasion and corrosion
resistance of a high chromium iron inner sleeve. The liners feature a centrifugally cast high
chrome iron sleeve that is machined and heat treated to a minimum uniform bore hardness of 62
RC. Each liner is machined to close tolerance to assure ease of installation and long liner life with
the inside diameter honed to a mirror-like finish for smooth and even wear during the life of the
liner. All liners are made for superior performance under tough corrosive and abrasive conditions.

Ceramic Liners
Ceramic liners combine the strength of a forged steel outer shell with the abrasion
and corrosion resistance of a ceramic inner sleeve. Ziconia (ZrO3) sleeves display
better impact strength, higher hardness and honed to finer surface finishes than
Alumina (Al2O3).

Hardened liners offer economy in a liner that is made for normal to mildly corrosive
mud conditions. These liners are hardened and heat treated under strict quality
control to a minimum of 60RC hardness and a depth of 0.125inches. Each liner is
honed to a mirror-like finish for smooth and even wear during the life of the liner
and is machined to close tolerance to assure easy installation and long life.

Chrome-plated liners are made from premium forged

steel with the core plated by chrome. The chrome-plated
liners have hardening characteristics of 58 to 62
Rockwell C hardness.

Gaskets
Gaskets and packings are made out of appropriately

hole if necessary; to circulate the washing fluid as one of the
advantages for retrieving tools and it is widely used in well servicing.

4.17 Lifting-Lowering and Releasing Overshot

Lifting-Lowering, and Releasing Overshot is a fishing tool designed for inside the casing,
which fishes fractured tubing and drill string. If the drill string is stuck heavily and hard
to fish, the overshot maintains the ability to release the fish. It is then possible to recover
the tool by bumping drill string down and lifting directly. The excellent advantage of the
product is no need to rotate, only, lifting and lowering operations are required for
catching and releasing of the fish.

HWDP (is short for Heavy Weight Drill Pipe) is an intermediate weight drill 4 4
stem component which is used in conjunction with the drill pipe and drill
collars. HWDP are available in standard, spiral and non-magnetic designs.
In some applications, heavy-weight also can be used instead of the drill
collars.

HWDP has been approved by the NS-1 certification which is made from one
piece 4145H modified quenched and tempered steel. It is designed for 3
tough drilling environments in vertical and directional wells. HWDP is a
transition member; for directional holes it is a weight member and provides
3
additional stiffness to prevent buckling.

Features and Benefits:

6.13 Jet Mud Mixer

Features and Benefits

Mud mixing equipment is designed to assist operators with the greatest available efficiency in
blending and mixing muds
Bentonite, polymers and other powder additives, have traditionally been added to assist in achieving
the properties needed from drilling mud, such as, viscosity for hole cleaning, water loss control
and filter cake build up, as well as weight mud applications. The ability to handle weighting agents
during potential blow out applications is even more important. The Jet Mud Mixer consists of
a mechanical seal mixing pump and verturi hopper. If it is used with a shearing pump together,
the effect will be significantly improved. It can be designed as a double jet mud mixer according
to customers requirements.

6.14 Mud Agitator
Mud Agitators mix and suspend the solids using both axial and radial flows, and by utilizing low
shear mixers to suspend and mix mud additives. Unlike centrifugal pumps or mud guns, the Mud
Agitator is relatively low shear and a low energy device, so it is easy to operate, and inexpensive to
maintain. This will ensure that mud additives are homogeneously mixed to prevent dead spots.
Agitators will keep the active mud system flowing even when the pumps are disengaged and keep
the weighting agents in suspension.

6.15 Mud Guns
Mud Guns are meant to provide supplement or primary mixing in mud tanks depending on the
number being used and the pit size. They are best used in tank corners to keep solids from settling and
a mud agitator is placed in the tank centre. The mud gun in the mud system is also used for transferring
mud from compartment to compartment, like a trip tank compartment. Mud Guns are available with
rotation adjustment to allow the operator to optimise the mud guns performance. The replaceable wear
resistant jet nozzle is used, which is a special design for better shearing.

6.16 Shear Pump

Features of Benefits

The Shear Pump reduces the cost of mixing polymers and clays while improving mud properties.
Shearing the polymers eliminates fish eyes and prevents polymer chaining (long strings), which
cannot pass through the shaker screens. The shear pump is available as a belt-driven or diesel-
driven package including a hopper, mud gun, and transfer line orifice plate. A complete system
with skid, tanks, and piping are also available.
The Shear Pump impeller is specially designed to have a wider flow pass and smooth vanes, with
larger flow area and smooth fluid pass, making the shear pump reach the internationally
advanced level in shear pump efficiency and energy-saving, 10% higher than similar products. The
shear pump has adopted a shell thicker than normal, with rational pass and less turbulence.
The Shear pump, impeller and shell are made of high wear resistant cast iron, with longer
service life. The shear pump shaft is of high strength, reducing shaft deflection and extending
seals service life. The shaft is lubricated with lubriciants and lubricating grease and the oil
seal is made specifically for the application and is suitable for high and low temperatures and
harsh environments. The front opening structure is used for convenient installation, repair and
maintenance.

6.17 Centrifugal Pump

The Centrifugal Pump is used for transferring drilling mud. It can be used as a feeding pump for
desander, desilter, or used as a mixing pump for Jet Mud Mixer. Also it can be used as a trip pump,
and supercharging pump for a rig mud pump. All Centrifugal Pumps use a tungsten carbide
mechanical seal, with quality inner bearings. And spare parts are interchangeable with most of the
international brand pumps, enabiling spare parts to be sourced easily. It also features open impeller
for ease of installation, repair and maintenance.

9.12 Swivel Joints
The swivel joint is a metal pipe adapter installed with roller
bearings based on the introduced technology from FMC. The
swivel joints with sizes ranging from 1 to 4 and rated working
pressure range of 25Mpa to 140Mpa (3626 psi 20000psi) are
available. Various models of swivel joints and relevant repair kits
for normal temperature, low temperature and sour gas (H2S)
conditions can be provided.

We can provide long radius and short radius swivel joints. The long radius swivel joints can minimize
fluid resistance and have better performance in corrosion resistance than short radius ones due to
their smooth bore. The short radius swivel joints are needed where the installation space is
limited or pressure is low. We can also supply a new style long radius swivel joint with increased
wall thickness and strength of corrosion-prone sections, thus corrosion-resistant capability is
boosted and operation life is extended.

A choke valve is mainly used to adjust the flow and pressure of

a piping system. Two types of choke valves are available: fixed
and adjustable choke valves. We can provide needle, barrel or orifice
plate types of adjustable choke valves, manual or hydraulic. End
connections of choke valves can be a union flange. Adjustable choke
valves adjust the flow and pressure by changing the choked area.
Users can read the flow value through a scale plate
Valve core is made of special metal to lengthen the operation life
of valves
The size of fixing nozzle can be made in metric or Imperial style.

Nominal Bore: 2 3
Temperature Class: -29C - 121C (Class Pu)

A check valve is used to stop the return flow in the high

pressure piping. A baffle plate or dart will automatically
close when flow returns. The check valve is made of high
strength alloy forged steel, with unions on both ends to
facilitate dismounting the valve in the piping, and have a
long operational life in high pressure systems. We can provide beeline baffle, top cover baffle and
dart type check valves.

A crossover Adaptor is an indispensable pipe

adaptor with different sizes and threads on two
ends. Connections can be various types of
threads, unions and flanges to international
standard. It can work in normal temperature,
low temperature and H2S environments, with a
standard length of 200mm. We can provide
various crossover adapters with different end
connections and sizes, customers can choose
any end connections and nonstandard length.
The rated working pressure of the crossover
adapter should be the lower value of the end

Application Environment: Standard & H2S Service

The pipe hoops are used as a discharge line, fluid delivery line, well testing line, cement slurry line
and other delivery lines during high pressure operations. They are composed of swivel joints and
straight pipe assys, can be easy folded and are convenient for transportation and storage. They
feature flexibility, shock-resistance, vibration resistance and high displacement.

Three styles of 1, 1 , 2, 3 and 4 pipe hoops are available: short radius pipe hoop, long radius pipe
hoop and flexible pipe hoop, with working pressure ranging from 42Mpa to 105Mpa (6000psi
20000psi). Normally, style 50 swivel joints are adopted, and customers can choose style 10 swivel joints.

9.24 Kelly Hose

The Rotary/Drilling Hose is used in drilling & work over services, and provides a flexible connection
between standpipe and swivel, or between pump and standpipe. Providing a flexible installation
between the drilling pump line and the riser to connect and isolate vibration. It is suitable for
delivering large quantity of water-based or oil-based mud pumped out of rotary drilling
equipment at high pressure. It resists corrosion from hydrogen sulfide and can deliver water/oil
based mud and other high-pressure media during drilling operations in the field.

10.18 Elevator Links

Elevator links are designed to hang elevators from the Top Drive System or
Hooks. Each elevator link of one pair is forged from one single billet high
strength alloy steel, heat treated and MPI tested. Additional material is added
in critical wear areas for extended life. The design verification of the elevator
links conform to requirements of API Spec 8A and Spec 8C, any elevator links
are proof load tested to 1.5 times the working load.
