When the mud pumps are turned on, the circulating fluid creates a small pressure drop across the
piston and an attendant force on the piston and spring. The pressure drops and the force increases
as fluid velocity increases. As the circulating drilling fluid reaches the minimum velocity needed to
overcome the spring force holding the piston in the up position, the dump valve is forced into the
down or closed-port position. The fluid then flows through the motor, providing horsepower to turn
the bit. When the mud pumps are turned off and circulation ceases, the piston is forced back into the
up (open) position, allowing drilling fluid to bypass the motor while tripping pipe.
The stator is a length of tubular steel lined with an elastomer compound that is shaped with helical
pattern to mate with the rotor. Various elastomers are available, depending on drilling-fluid type and
bottom hole temperature.
1.14 Coupling
The coupling assembly is attached to the lower end of the rotor and transmits motor rotational
torque and speed to the drive shaft and bit. The coupling assembly converts the eccentric motion of
the rotor to the concentric motion of the drive shaft.
Additionally, the flexible coupling allows the placement of a bend point in its external housing for
steerable or single bend motors. Bent-housing angles range from 0 to 3 in most cases and may be
either fixed or adjustable.
The motor uses a stacked multiple ball-and-race design for the thrust bearings. The Thrust
thrust bearings support the downward force resulting from the WOB and the loads from Bearings
the combination of hydraulic thrust and weight loads from internal components.
Radial support bearings support the radial loads on the drive shaft and regulate the Lower
Radial
flow of drilling fluid through the bearing assembly. Diverted fluid cools and Bearings
lubricates the radial and thrust bearings. The motor uses radial bearings with tungsten
carbide tiles imbedded in a tungsten carbide chip matrix for maximum performance
and superior resistance to radial wear.

1.22 Hardfacing Types for Stabilisers
HF1000
Crushed tungsten carbide held in a nickel bronze matrix. The 3mm
grain size ensures greater concentration of carbide which is ideal for
soft formation drilling.
HF2000
Trapezoidal tungsten carbide inserts held in a sintered carbide nickel
bronze matrix. This will give a greater depth of carbide coverage ideal
for high deviation drilling in abrasive formations.
HF3000
Tungsten carbide inserts set in a powder spray deposit ideal for
abrasive formations. With a 97% bonding guaranteed, certified by an
ultrasonic report. Recommended for non-magnetic stabilisers.
HF4000
Tungsten carbide inserts (button type). The inserts have been developed
to allow cold insertion and maintain close fit. A greater concentration
of inserts on the bottom third of the blade and leading edge will
increase surface contact to reduce wear in highly abrasive formations.
HF5000
This oxy-acetylene process applies tough molten carbide particles of
varying sizes held in a nickel chrome matrix which provides excellent
bonding properties and greater surface wear characteristics are
achieved. Surface hardness levels over 40 HRC. Ideal for GEO-THERMAL
applications over 350.
HF5000
This process is a highly automated way of applying hardface and utilising
a combined air/plasma stream on the work piece surface. This results
in a low base metal dilution and a dense uniform coating. The filling
medium can be a variety of hardfacing consumables.
Underreamers
1.30 Drag Type Under Reamer
Drag type underreamers are used in soft to medium formations where
large diameter intervals are required for gravel packing or cementing.
It is also an effective tool for bell hole operations in fault zones. Pilot
holes can be enlarged up to three times the body diameter in a single
trip. These tools can be operated with water, mud, air, aerated mud, or any other circulating fluid.

6.13 Jet Mud Mixer
Mud mixing equipment is designed to assist operators with the greatest available efficiency in
blending and mixing muds
Bentonite, polymers and other powder additives, have traditionally been added to assist in achieving
the properties needed from drilling mud, such as, viscosity for hole cleaning, water loss control
and filter cake build up, as well as weight mud applications. The ability to handle weighting agents
during potential blow out applications is even more important. The Jet Mud Mixer consists of
a mechanical seal mixing pump and verturi hopper. If it is used with a shearing pump together,
the effect will be significantly improved. It can be designed as a double jet mud mixer according
to customers requirements.
www.adte.com.au
6.14 Mud Agitator
Mud Agitators mix and suspend the solids using both axial and radial flows, and by utilizing low
shear mixers to suspend and mix mud additives. Unlike centrifugal pumps or mud guns, the Mud
Agitator is relatively low shear and a low energy device, so it is easy to operate, and inexpensive to
maintain. This will ensure that mud additives are homogeneously mixed to prevent dead spots.
Agitators will keep the active mud system flowing even when the pumps are disengaged and keep
the weighting agents in suspension.
page 43
6.0 Solids Control
6.15 Mud Guns
Mud Guns are meant to provide supplement or primary mixing in mud tanks depending on the
number being used and the pit size. They are best used in tank corners to keep solids from settling and
a mud agitator is placed in the tank centre. The mud gun in the mud system is also used for transferring
mud from compartment to compartment, like a trip tank compartment. Mud Guns are available with
rotation adjustment to allow the operator to optimise the mud guns performance. The replaceable wear
resistant jet nozzle is used, which is a special design for better shearing.
www.adte.com.au
6.16 Shear Pump
Features of Benefits
The Shear Pump reduces the cost of mixing polymers and clays while improving mud properties.
Shearing the polymers eliminates fish eyes and prevents polymer chaining (long strings), which
cannot pass through the shaker screens. The shear pump is available as a belt-driven or diesel-
driven package including a hopper, mud gun, and transfer line orifice plate. A complete system
with skid, tanks, and piping are also available.
The Shear Pump impeller is specially designed to have a wider flow pass and smooth vanes, with
larger flow area and smooth fluid pass, making the shear pump reach the internationally
advanced level in shear pump efficiency and energy-saving, 10% higher than similar products. The
shear pump has adopted a shell thicker than normal, with rational pass and less turbulence.
The Shear pump, impeller and shell are made of high wear resistant cast iron, with longer
service life. The shear pump shaft is of high strength, reducing shaft deflection and extending
seals service life. The shaft is lubricated with lubriciants and lubricating grease and the oil
seal is made specifically for the application and is suitable for high and low temperatures and
harsh environments. The front opening structure is used for convenient installation, repair and
maintenance.

6.17 Centrifugal Pump
The Centrifugal Pump is used for transferring drilling mud. It can be used as a feeding pump for
desander, desilter, or used as a mixing pump for Jet Mud Mixer. Also it can be used as a trip pump,
and supercharging pump for a rig mud pump. All Centrifugal Pumps use a tungsten carbide
mechanical seal, with quality inner bearings. And spare parts are interchangeable with most of the
international brand pumps, enabiling spare parts to be sourced easily. It also features open impeller
for ease of installation, repair and maintenance.

9.12 Swivel Joints
The swivel joint is a metal pipe adapter installed with roller
bearings based on the introduced technology from FMC. The
swivel joints with sizes ranging from 1 to 4 and rated working
pressure range of 25Mpa to 140Mpa (3626 psi 20000psi) are
available. Various models of swivel joints and relevant repair kits
for normal temperature, low temperature and sour gas (H2S)
conditions can be provided.
We can provide long radius and short radius swivel joints. The long radius swivel joints can minimize
fluid resistance and have better performance in corrosion resistance than short radius ones due to
their smooth bore. The short radius swivel joints are needed where the installation space is
limited or pressure is low. We can also supply a new style long radius swivel joint with increased
wall thickness and strength of corrosion-prone sections, thus corrosion-resistant capability is
boosted and operation life is extended.

The pipe hoops are used as a discharge line, fluid delivery line, well testing line, cement slurry line
and other delivery lines during high pressure operations. They are composed of swivel joints and
straight pipe assys, can be easy folded and are convenient for transportation and storage. They
feature flexibility, shock-resistance, vibration resistance and high displacement.
Three styles of 1, 1 , 2, 3 and 4 pipe hoops are available: short radius pipe hoop, long radius pipe
hoop and flexible pipe hoop, with working pressure ranging from 42Mpa to 105Mpa (6000psi
20000psi). Normally, style 50 swivel joints are adopted, and customers can choose style 10 swivel joints.
