RURAL RESIDENTS AT RISK FOR FIVE LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH

(10, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level)

New studies have shown that the health of people living in the rural United States are at a higher
risk of death from five leading causes of death. The five health issues that may be seen in rural
areas are heart disease, cancer, injuries, long-term lower respiratory disease and stroke. Centers
for Disease Control have cited these health issues as ones that can be avoided and these issues
have been pointed out in a new health series that will focus on rural health.

People living in rural parts of the country are at higher risk for certain health problems, and face
challenges specific to the world around them. These factors are known as social determinants.
This means that health issues may occur as a result of a place where a person is born, grows up,
lives or works. Also, a person being able to access health care that will meet their needs can be
made hard in the rural setting. These factors include income level, education, race, sexual
orientation/gender identity, access to healthy foods, safe homes, and quality health care.

It is the goal of Going the Distance to work against the problems that people face, and to offer
total health care services to those in rural areas. It is vital for people to see how social
determinants may be impacting their health, and to better understand the resources available. We
aim to educate residents, healthcare providers and health policy makers on how key it is to take
in to account the social aspects in health. Going the Distance want those who are living in rural
America to take charge of your health, and to know your options.

Our program also works with local doctors, nurses and their teams. We want to help these
medical sources to better grasp how the health of rural people are changed by social traits, and
that it is important to take details of a persons social elements in to account when giving care.

We wish all of those in rural areas to visit our website, office, or call. Our team is able to help
you know what your risk may be, and can assist you in avoiding the health issues that rural
people are at higher risk for.
