Solfege

Solfege was invented by the monk Guido of Arezzo as a way to help his fellow monks learn their music.
Solfege asigns a syllable to each pitch of a scale. We will be using what's called "moveable do," in that the first
pitch of each scale is always "do." Below is the scale written out in two differnt keys to exemplify this.

You need to first learn to hear what are the anchor notes in solfege

All notes in-between anchor notes resolve into anchor notes



ti - do re - do re - mi fa - mi fa - sol la - sol sol - do sol - do

Suspension - Anytime notes resolve down into an anchor note



re - do fa - mi la - sol re - do

Retardation - Anytime notes resolve up into an anchor note
