Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s),

My name is Patrick Haughaboo, and I have the pleasure of being your childs social studies
teacher this year! I have some fun activities in store, and it is my goal to make your childs
experience in my class enjoyable and memorable. I would like to take a moment to tell you a
little about myself. I was born and raised right here in Decatur, AL. I have degrees from Auburn
and Athens State. I currently serve as one of the soccer coaches. I strive to be a positive role
model for my students while providing them with unique learning experiences. I look forward to
working with your child this school year as we work to achieve success both inside and outside

Course Description

This social studies course is divided into two semesters with geography covered in one semester
and citizenship covered in the other. Geography will look at the worlds physical layout using
maps and other systems. In addition, geography will examine the worlds cultures and the global
impact of the collision of those cultures. Citizenship will examine the basic systems of American
government and citizenship as well as study the worlds different governmental systems.

Supply List/Daily Supplies

*All students will need to have each of the following items EVERY day:
Composition Notebook
Pencil or pen
Colored Pencils (optional)
Loose paper
Library book or reading book of choice
Classroom ProceduresBeginning Class: Students will enter the classroom quietly and
immediately find their seats. Any homework due will be turned in during this time into the
designated inbox for your class. All pencils should be sharpened before class begins.
Checking Attendance: Attendance will be checked while students are completing bell work.
Students should be in their assigned seats in order to be marked present.
Tardiness: 4 tardies = call home| 5 tardies = write up
Turning in work: A turn in box has been assigned for each class to turn in all assignments,
unless the teacher specifies otherwise.
Make-up work: Students are allowed one day to make up assignments after an excused absence.
Failure to make up work will result in loss of points or a zero for that assignment.
Tests- Students will not be allowed to make-up tests during school. Days and
times must be arranged for students to make up a test before or after school.
Late Work: 1 day late = minus 15 points| 2 days late = zero (no opportunities to make up)
Ending Class: Students will be dismissed by the teacher after the classroom is neat and orderly.
Please keep your seating area clean.
Course Requirements
The student will:
1. Bring paper, netbooks, and writing utensils to class each day.
2. Keep a notebook of class notes which will be graded periodically.
3. Keep a composition notebook in class for bell ringers and designated class work.
Grading Policy
*Grades will be calculated in the following format:
Tests/Projects = 60%
Classwork/Homework = 40%

*Tests will be announced at least three days in advance and usually a week in advance. Test
grades may also be in the form of projects or formal essays. Daily grades will take the form of
class work, handouts, class participation, discussion, short essays, review sheets, notebook check
and quizzes.
Expectations for all students:
1. Be respectful to yourself, your teacher, and your peers.
2. Be on time and prepared.
3. Follow All classroom, CRMS and DCS rules and procedures.
