RELATED KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF EMPLOYEES TO USE PERSONAL
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT ( PPE ) SERMANI STELL INDUSTRIAL MAKASSAR

Loss of human resources is a loss to the company due to the time required to
search for or educate the appropriate human resources company . Losses are
directly visible from the onset of occupational injuries are medical expenses and
compensation for accidents.
Some work accident caused by workers who do not implement a complete
safety standards such as the use of PPE . It can be seen from several cases of
accidents that have occurred and the cause of the accident from year to year is
always repeated - again and was impressed by the case of accidents that have
occurred are not done by the evaluation and improvement of Indonesian firms and
workers in the future from happening again . So , until now the cause of the accident
is still the same ie without complete security standards such as the use of PPE . It
also does not just happen proficiency level on only one area , but occur in all areas
of employment .
This study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge and attitudes of
workers towards the use of personal protective equipment ( PPE ) in industry
sermani stell makasar ie where 120 employees were used as samples by the
method of descriptive research conducted through interviews using a questionnaire .
The data is processed manually by using the tabs in the master table
Based on the research results that the respondents' knowledge gained from
the 120 respondents , 77 people who are most knowledgeable categorized 52
people ( 67.5 % ) were not wearing PPE . While the research results obtained by the
attitude of 52 ( 86.7 % ) had the attitude categories were not wearing PPE and taking
8 people ( 13.3 % ) . The rest 21 people who have a high attitude category , 21
people ( 35 % ) did not wear PPE and taking as many as 39 people ( 65 % ) .
So should the company should always provide guidance and oversight of the
use of personal protective equipment and implementing high discipline and
motivation that can be awards / prizes to the workforce in the use of PPE in the
discipline .
