GENERAL INFORMATION:

At this point, you should have had a topic reviewed and a CONTRACT turned
into (Mrs R) so that you can continue with next portion of the Science Fair
process. If you have not completed these steps then STOP. You may NOT
continue. You must finalize with Mrs R FIRST!
You are completing the initial research and design, but you may add to this as Title (later)
you begin experimentation.
To set up your Science fair lab book look over the following images:

Log Book (Bound composition book) will include the following Your name
Partner names
Title page- yours should look like this

Acknowledgements page Acknowledgements

(heading is all that is needed)

Table of contents -neatly written, table is nice but not required

o Include only the Engineering headings or Experimental headings for your type of project

Research Pages: this is the first numbered page of log book

o For all projects, this section includes research questions, sources and notes- part of your research MUST
be about projects similar to yours so that you can compare your data to other known data
o Each person in the group will have a minimum of 5 sources- no duplications of sources in a
group. NO WIKI, HOW STUFF WORKS, YAHOO etc. No ENCYCLOPEDIAs until you have
your 5 main sources
o Each person must have 2 science journals included in their 5 sources
o Research should include how you want to test- possible procedures for your experiment

o Research can include interviews with an expert in your field of study

RESEARCH PAGES

Your research pages will begin on the 4th page of your logbook, but it is labeled as page 1. Label the parts of each
page as follows. (Dont forget to update page numbers in the table of contents after you have completed all
notes.)
AGAIN, You MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 5 DIFFERENT SOUCES per PERSON in a group
DO NOT USE: how stuff works, Yahoo answers, etc. These ARE NOT QUALITY references. Once you have 5
legitimate sources, you may use encyclopedias
Keep a word doc of MLA formatted sources for access at different points of the project.
Each time you work on your project, make sure you write a journal entry describing the following: what your
learned, what you still need to learn or do

SUMMARY NOTES- written in short paragraphs, and should answer/explain the research question
from this one source. Minimum of 2 per research notes/per source
