COURSE SUMMARY: The Seventh Grade Language Arts curriculum consists of the following units of
study: reading, writing, grammar/usage, vocabulary acquisition, and speaking and listening skills. The
Language Arts curriculum will provide students with an opportunity to explore compelling themes
through reading, writing, discussion, performances, and research. Students will closely read short
stories, novels, historical text, and articles. With frequent opportunities to write creatively and
analytically, students will develop fluency, research skills, and an understanding of how to craft their
writing based on audience and purpose. Through collaborative discussions, presentations, and
debates with peers students will analyze text, collect evidence, and sharpen their critical thinking
skills. Within all activities essential vocabulary and grammar concepts will enrich students ability to
read and write effectively.
STUDENT AGENDA:
All students should have their agenda in class with them on a daily basis. Should students lose their
agenda, the cost to replace it will be $10.00

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Our class will follow the school wide behavior management plan supported by the PBIS system. All
students will be expected to maintain the Cardinal R.E.D. guiding principles: Respect, Excellence,
and Dedication. Students accumulate points for minor infractions with progressive disciplinary
consequences (parent contact, detention, parent conference, administrative referral). Students are
also rewarded for demonstrating Cardinal R.E.D. principles with Cardinal Cash to be used to
purchase items in the school store, as well as a pass to attend Fresh Air Friday (every other Friday).

PARENT TIPS:
A part of our school-home communication is reporting progress to parents. In addition to progress
reports and report cards, parents are encouraged to sign up for ParentVUE which will provide parents
with access to their childs grades and class assignments. Parents must sign up for access to
ParentVue in the front office. Once signed up use the link below to be view your childs progress.
