Skills Profile
Communication & Presentational
As part of the Student Associates Scheme I was required to work with individual students on a one-to-one basis
and explain problems to them in a friendly and understandable manner.
As a team leader on a busy restaurant floor, communication to fellow staff members was key.
At university I have had to articulate ideas to a high standard in both written and verbal forms. For example, in-
class presentations have greatly improved my ability to deliver information in a confident and assured manner.

Organisation and Time Management

When participating in the Step into Sport scheme at college I devised and ran classes that needed consciousness
planning to assure that the children I worked with were constantly enthusiastic and well-motivated.
Working as a model has required extensive travelling often at very short notice, meaning that I have constantly
had to be ahead on my school and university work.
My degree demands independent learning that requires effectively managing my own time and working to
various deadlines for different pieces of assessment.

Research & Analytical

As part of my degree I have had to gather lots of information from numerous sources before critically
evaluating their use when constructing arguments in essays. For example, my 4000 word essay on the EUs
foreign policy contained 33 sources, varying from academic journal articles, academic books, reports from the
European Council, as well as newspaper and magazine articles. I have been successful in this area, shown my
current first-class results.
Work as a student intern at the University of Leeds required researching the links between degrees and
employability. This included surveying alumni and interpreting the data to produce charts and reports,
something that greatly improved my analytical skills.

Team Work
Group work at university has required the tasks set to be shared and the findings to be collated in an efficient
and effective manner, whilst ensuring that all members participate. For example, an assessed presentation on
the US Congress with two peers involved going away and conducting our separate research, meeting to discuss
our findings and producing a powerpoint presentation, allocating roles for the presentation in the process.
As a student intern I worked closely with two other students on planning, researching and analysing the project
and the findings. Some tasks were produced individually, such as the suggestions from the findings, whilst
some tasks involved all three of us, such as the mock interviews we filmed.
Innovation, Leadership and Cultural Awareness
On the Students Associates Scheme I developed leadership and presentational skills by planning and delivering
lessons within a set time frame, respective of deadlines. Additionally, as part of the schemes Aim Higher
programme, I raised awareness of higher education for students by holding sessions with students and using my
own experiences to demonstrate such opportunities.
My degree requires formulating original ideas within essay writing with includes fusing academic ideas with
my own to create structured arguments. This includes staying on top of current affairs to ensure I can articulate
any new information in an informed manner.
