Agenda Items:

1) Christine Liu - Sexual harassment training for MCB and Biophysics first-years. Christine, Malak,
Krishan are leading and requesting some people to help facilitate August 17th, 10-11:30. Need
volunteers to help small group case studies with the first-years. Volunteers:

-Shally will send survey to MCB folks

2) Amy Eisenberg Auction updates

Decided to push back to late September-ish
org to donate to: CEJA California Environmental Justice Alliance, contact them beforehand to
solicit e.g, speakers, materials, etc.
where to hold?
On-campus vs. off? people prefer off, Amy will keep looking into options.
Talked a bit about things to option:
o Science art
o Tour of a lab
o Dinner with a scientists
o Old equipment for schools

3) Eva Nichols BOSS science outreach group

setting up science and experiment outreach for kids
model: Dan, Dom, Eva do visits to a classroom 3 times a year, set up and guide students through
experiments
anyone interested in getting involved
o Amy is interested!
 o Alyssa is interested!

We break up into small groups and talked about what we want BUS to do. Come back to the large
group and share ideas:

Group 1
more simple beer fundraisers, house parties etc.
bring individual ideas to the group and solicit help/feedback, keeping it chill
small activities, too! Not just big house parties

Group 2
support each other, figure out each others strengths and focus on those
reach out to other departments
compartmentalizing time and resources to more efficiently make change
normalize political action among

Group 3
leadership development for social/political activism

Group 4
having people take charge of different working groups and reporting back to BUS during general
meetings

Group 5
attracting the first years
more defined mission statement, concrete goals
having a statement and making it broad
newsletter
o monthly/biweekly update on stuff, upcoming events, etc., actionable items

To-do items
1) Party + fundraiser to introduce new students to BUS late August or early September. Party
committee will coordinate and plan:

-Daniel will start the email thread among party planners

2) Need some sort of mission statement or goals to distribute to people. People to take the lead on
that:
-Katie Sieverman
-Daniel Saxton
 3) Expanded social media presence would be useful will table that discussion till next meeting

Shally will facilitate next BUS meeting tentatively week of Sept. 10-15 but needs to be after the
first-year party fundraiser
