Inadditiontothehands-freetelephonesystemwithabaseplatewithconnectiontotheexterior
antennaabrandnewwirelesschargingtelephonefeatureisstandardequipment.Chargingtakes
placewirelesslyforthefirsttimeusingwirelesschargingtechnologyinthenewBMW7Series.
AnothernewfeatureoftheG12istransmissionofcellphonedatabymeansofNearField
CommunicationorNFCforshort.NFCisusedforthefirsttimeinaBMW,itoffersasimplified
connectionsetupforBluetoothpairingofthecustomer'scellphone.
TogetherwiththerevisedHeadUnitHigh2,anewtelematiccontrolunitisbeingintroducedatBMW.
TheTelematicCommunicationBox2TCB2asaroof-mountedversionoffersthecellradio
standardLongTermEvolutionLTEinthevehicleforthefirsttime.Thisnewfeaturepermitsboth
connectionofvehiclesuchasTeleServiceandConnectedDriveaswellasrealizationofahigh-speed
accesstotheinternet.ThisWi-Fihotspotisavailabletocustomersasoptionalequipment.

2.1.Standardtelephonesystem
IntheG12,thestandardequipmentagainincludestheBluetoothhands-freesystemtogether
withBluetoothaudiostreamingandaUSBinterface.AnAUX-Ininterfaceisnolongerofferedinthe
G12.Anexceptiontothisistheseparateconnectionoptionintherearseatentertainmentsystem.
ThehardwarefortheBluetoothhands-freesystemiscomprisedintheHeadUnitHigh2.
IncurrentBMWvehiclesanddependingontheoptionalequipment,abaseplateandphonecradle
isprovidedsothatcustomerscanusesnap-inadaptersinthevehicle.Thebaseplateislocatedin
thefrontcenterconsoleofthevehicle.ItisusedforchargingthecellphoneandhasaUSBinterface
forthemusicplayerconnection.Connectedviatheexternalvehicleantenna,thefieldstrengthfor
thecustomer'scellphoneissignificantlyimproved.Useoftheexternalvehicleantennaisparticularly
advantageousbecauseitgreatlyenhancesthefieldstrengthdependingonfrequency.Thestandard
equipmenttelephonesystemontheUSmarketG12includesthe6NWWirelessCharging.Thisbase
plateandphonecradleisnolongerneededasthesystemusesawirelesschargingtraythatperforms
allofthesamefunctions.
A2ndmicrophoneisinstalledinthevehicleasstandardtoenhancetheoperationofthehands-free
system,inparticularforthefrontpassenger.
ThevehicleequippedwithtwoUSBinterfacesandthereisnolongeranAUX-INportavailable.
BothUSBinterfacesareconnectedtotheheadunitandcanbeaccessedinthenewmainmenu
under"Media/Radio".
Achargecurrentofupto2.1AisavailableviabothUSBinterfacestosupplythecustomer'ssmart
devices.ThisismadepossibleduetotheuseofanadditionalUSBhubwhichisinstalledasstandard.
BothaudioandvideocontentcanbeplayedbackfromaUSBstickviatheseinterfaces.

Wi-FiHotspot
AWi-Fihotspotispreparedinthevehicleasahighlightoftheconvenienttelephonefunction.This
canbeactivatedthankstospecialoptionalequipmentwhichisaddedtothevehicletogetherwith
convenienttelephoneorwirelesscharging.ForfurtherinformationWi-FiHotspotSeeChapter2.
User-initiatedsoftwareupdate
Acustomer-initiatedsoftwareupdate(KISUupdate)formultimediaandtelephoneispossible
asstandardintheG12.
Telephonewithwirelesscharging
TelephonewithWirelessCharging(SA6NW)isofferedasstandardequipmentintheUSmarket
(Seeillustration).Thescopeofhardwareandfunctionsisenhancedwithaspecialwirelesscharging
traywhichisinstalledinthevehicleinsteadofthebaseplate.Thissmartphonechargingtray,called
"wirelesschargingtray",isfittedonthesideofthecenterconsoleandpermitsinductivechargingas
wellasinductivecouplingwiththeexternalvehicleantenna.
Inadditiontothecustomer'ssmartphone,whichremainsfullyfunctionalwithrespecttothehands-
freesystemduringcharging,itisalsopossibletoperformwirelesschargingoftheBMWDisplaykey
(SA3DS).

TheWi-FiHotspot(SA6WD)inthevehicleisalsoalreadystandardfortheUSmarketand
includedalongwithtelephonewithwirelesscharging(SA6NW).Thesystemisofferedas
afreemonthlytrial.
Itisonlynecessarytopurchaseamobiledataplanfromyourcellphonecarrier(i.e.AT&T).Depending
onlocalLTEavailabilityandtakingintoaccountcountry-specificrestrictions,thecustomercanthen
surfintheinternetwithupto10deviceswithamaximumdownloadrateof100Mbit/s.
Thepurchaseofthe(payasyougo)plantakesplaceexclusivelyviathecustomer'scellenddevice
(PC,smartphone,tabletetc.).TheconnectionisdoneviatheTCB2SIMcard.Whenconnectingto
theWi-Fihotspotthephonewillopenalandingpage(similartoahotelWi-Ficonnection)tologin.
