Grades: 12 Course Length: 1 year

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to provide the necessary skills to succeed in College Mathematics and to pass the PERT
test. Traditional concepts and logical reasoning are emphasized while strengthening Algebra skills. This course will provide skills to help
students retain the necessary knowledge beyond the immediate learning time through use of traditional and technological methods.

MCR VISION: Students will have daily opportunities to engage in digital learning to autonomously expand their knowledge through multiple
sources. Students will be able to evaluate and analyze the credibility and usefulness of digital sources allowing students to become critical
consumers of digital information. Students will gain an increased awareness through responsible interaction with the global community
creating opportunities for students to work as collaborative citizens.

TEXT: Intermediate Algebra, Sixth Edition, Pearson/Prentice Hall. Students will use the digital textbook provided through the use of their
Lenovo ThinkPad.

PROGRAMS: I will or potentially be using the following programs to enhance student learning: Khan Academy, MyMathLab, Weebly,
Canvas, tehPlayground.com, Google forms, and HERO. Students will be expected to complete assignments, quizzes, polls and turn in
assignments for grading through these programs off and on throughout the year.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
Professionalism: Students are expected to dress and act professionally at all times. Violations of Dress Code will result in the removal
of a student from class until appropriate clothing can be changed into. Students who do not maintain appropriate behavior will be
given one of the appropriate deterrents, including but not limited to: counseling, parent contacts, lunch detentions, parent conferences,
and discipline referrals. When we have the opportunity to have a guest speaker: Colleges or Military, students will be able to
earn extra points for dressing professionally (either as if they are going to an interview or in their career of choice.)

Preparedness: All students are to be prepared for class when they walk in the door. They should begin class with a positive,
professional attitude and with their required tools to learn: Their assigned ThinkPad (Lenovo), a composition or subject notebook
(Interactive Notebook), and a writing implement (pen, pencil). All other in-class needs will be supplied. Please note: there is no
requirement of a calculator. For Math for College Readiness classes, Calculators are not to be used EXCEPT for specific types of
problems. There is a calculator on their ThinkPads to help a student feel comfortable, but they will not always be permitted to use it in
class. Students will be taught skills to compensate for the lack of calculator use.

Perseverance: Students will put their 100% effort into my class when here and when studying.
o Assessments (quizzes and tests) will be 80% of their grade.
o Khan (Khan Academy Practices)
o Class Participation (numerous varying activities) will account for another.
o Classwork & Homework or College Preparedness & Readiness skills (projects, notes, vocabulary, guest speakers, the use of
digital and digitized curriculum and resources) will account for the last 20%.

Participation: Students will be required to participate every class period from bell to bell. Students, as they are seniors, will be given
1 or 2 warnings, then the instructor will document the behavior for the assignment being missed. Student assignments will be done
with their digital devices and submitted to the appropriate program for grading by a specified date. Students that miss assignments due
to absence/suspension, will be given a small window of time to submit missing assignments after the deadline. This option will be at
the teachers discretion. Please note, that students that are given in-school or out-of-school suspension will still be able to turn in their
assignments on-time if they have internet access (either at home, a wi-fi site, or perhaps the public library, or OCPS if in-school)

Provisionary: Students that are suspended, in-school or out of school, will have access to their notes and assignments through online
programs and will be able to submit their assignments online. Activities will have to be made up during lunch or after school after
being scheduled with their instructor. Students that are found to be skipping, will NOT receive credit or makeup work, UNLESS the
instructor permits it.

MATH FOR COLLEGE READINESS
GRADING:
As per state regulations, the grading scale implemented in all Math for College Readiness classrooms will be:
A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% *D: 60-69% *F: 59 or Below

Extra help and tutoring will be available during Saturday school and or after school.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students will need to be in class every day if at all possible. Students are allowed to miss 10 UNEXCUSED days
per semester, or 20 UNEXCUSED days for the year without threat of failing the course. Therefore ALL absences should be excused through
the Attendance office within 2 days of returning OR pre-excused if at all possible. Students that fail to meet the attendance guideline MUST
make up all assignments AND pass the final exam, according to Florida State Law.

EXTRA CREDIT: Extra credit is available only through Pearson My Math Lab during the week assignment window unless indicated by your
teacher.

Late Work: An opportunity to complete Pearson assignments pass the first deadline is built into the deadline. For instance, Pearson
assignments assigned on Monday are due the same day (Monday) but are not closed for grading till Sunday night, so a student who missed
Monday or any other day that week could potentially still complete the assignment. TEST/QUIZZES: if a test or quiz is missed a student can
replace the missed score only with the immediate next test/quiz only.

TUTORING: Our goal is for every student to succeed in our classes. If any student needs extra assistance, they will need to make
arrangements with their instructor OR another MCR instructor to come after school so that one of us will know they are to be attending. When
the after school tutoring program begins, an instructor may give students points for attending to help their assignments/quiz/test grades. The
after school tutoring program is also a terrific time for students to make up missing quizzes/tests/work.

ELECTRONICS: As ALL high schools know have gone digital and all classrooms will be able to use the student assigned ThinkPads, the
following rules and expectations will at the forefront of ALL Math for College Readiness classes:
1. Students will have their ThinkPads every day. When not in use, students will be allowed to charge within the classroom.
2. Students may not leave their ThinkPads in their instructors classroom overnight. They are responsible for the location and upkeep of
their assigned device.
3. Students will always use their ThinkPads for educational purposes at all times in their Math for College Readiness class.
4. Students, as per OCPS, are not allowed to use their cellphones in class, therefore they must be put in silent mode and placed in
their bags at all times in class.

KHAN ACADEMY: Students will be required to complete Khan Academy Practice days. They will be given a grade on their progress
according to their instructors expectations. Students who are absent will need to make up their Khan time in accordance to their instructors
wishes to ensure they have the maximum benefit of the Khan Academy Program.

CHEATING: Cheating is not tolerated! The student will not earn credit and the parent or guardian will be notified. A notation in Progressbook
will be placed in the comment section so that parents are also informed, and the disciplinary action taken will be placed in the comment section
of the students digital file for the instructor to reference in the future. On the second occurrence of cheating, a discipline referral will be sent to
the discipline dean.

PARENT CONTACTS: I will contact parents as often as possible to let you know how your child is doing both good and bad. This could
include emails, progress reports, phone calls or letters mailed. It is important that the student and the parent to inform me of any changes in
their contact information. If you ever feel the need for a parent-teacher conference, please contact your childs guidance counselor to make
arrangements. If your students situation, academically or behaviorally, is heading to a point that success will not be had, I also reserve the right
to request a conference immediately.

PERT: Thus far, the PERT has been given as the final exam. Students are expected to do their very best. Students will need to make the
minimum PERT score for College Readiness by the end of the school year (114+). Those seniors that have not passed the ALGEBRA I End
of Course Exam, MUST make at least a 97 on the PERT to graduate.
