Configuration Guide:

GE MDS iNet 900 Wireless IP/Ethernet Transceiver

Introduced in RMOS 4.0

The purpose of this document is to detail the installation and configuration of the GE MDS iNet 900 for use
with all Uplogix appliances.

Features
Supportforbothaccesspointanddualremotegatewaymode
Bothversion6.6and6.7oftheMDSOSaresupported

Physical Connection
The iNet 900 can be connected to the Uplogix appliance with a standard CAT5 cable and a DB-9 to RJ-45
adaptor. If you use a blue Cisco cabled with a built-in DB-9 connector, you may need to set the appliances
null-modem setting to false.

Although the iNet 900 has two serial ports, only COM1 should be used.
Before You Begin

You will need to know the IP address of the Ethernet interface on the iNet 900 prior to running the config init
command. Without this address, the appliance will be unable to pull data over TFTP.

Note: Ethernet connections via the dedicated Ethernet port on the Uplogix appliance are not recommended
with this device. Connecting the iNet 900 in this manner may cause automated functions to fail.

The default baud rate for the iNet 900 is 19200. If this value has changed, the Uplogix appliance will need to
be configured with the new rate.

The default username and password is iNET and admin. Depending on your iNets configuration, the
username may be entered automatically by the device.

Configuring the Port

Once the transceiver is properly connected to the Uplogix appliance, take the following steps:

Open a connection to the Uplogix appliance and navigate to the port you wish to initialize.

[admin@A101100391]#port1/8
Native
[admin@A101100391(port1/8)]#

Use the config init command to configure the port. The make should be GE. Model, OS, and OS version are
optional fields.

When the config init command completes, run terminal to open a terminal session with the iNet 900.

If the port has been properly configured, you should see the standard iNet 900 menu.

If you do not see a menu, ensure that the physical connection is correct and that the serial settings on the
Uplogix appliance match those on the iNet 900.

Automated Functions

Automated jobs are scheduled during the config init process. For the iNet 900, these jobs include
pullRunningConfig and deviceInfo.

Device Info

The deviceInfo job queries the iNet 900 for information fields such as hostname, model, OS version, uptime,
and serial number. By default, this job runs every 30 seconds. To view the collected data, use the show info
command.

[admin@A101100391(port1/8)]#showinfo

Make:GE
Model:MDSiNET900
Serial:1658775
OS:MDS
OSVersion:6.6.0
ManagementIP:172.30.162.101

Running Config

Unlike a Cisco router, the iNet 900 only has one configuration file. This file is pulled by the
pullRunningConfig job and is stored on the appliance as the running-config. To pull this file manually, use
the pull running-config command.

[admin@A101100391(port1/8)]#pullrunningconfig
runningconfigsavedtoarchiveascurrent.

Interface Monitors

You can schedule interface monitors for the iNets two interfaces: Ethernet and Wireless.

[admin@A101100391(port1/8)]#configmonitorinterfaceEthernet

Configuration Rollback

The iNet 900 driver includes support for surgical rollback. When the terminal command is run, the appliance
will pull the device configuration before giving control to the user. After the terminal session is exited, the
device configuration will be pulled again and compared to the original. If the session was terminated
unexpectedly, any changes will be rolled back. Otherwise, the user will be presented with the options to
commit or rollback any changes made.
