Tacketts First Day Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back! My name is Lana Tackett, and Im excited to be your childs 3 rd grade teacher this year. This is
my third year at Hite, and my twenty fourth year of teaching. My husband Bob and I have three grown children
- Jordan, Samantha, and Corey - all graduates of the University of Louisville. We are also blessed with one
granddaughter, Scarlett, and two little grandsons, Luke and Roman, expected to arrive in September and
December. I love to read, travel, cheer on U of L Cards, dabble in interior decorating, and enjoy family time.

Ive always believed that an effective learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between parent, child
and teacher. In our classroom, everyone has the right to learn, and no one has the right to keep others from
learning. I want your child to feel comfortable, safe, and accepted in our classroom. We do have a behavior
plan, and more information about that and our homework policy will be sent home at a later date. However,
today, your child is bringing home a folder full of paperwork that needs to be filled out and returned to school
ASAP. Along with that information, please see a tentative class schedule on the back of this letter. The schedule
may change somewhat on a day-to-day basis, but you should still get a good idea of how our days will roll. In
addition, students will have a Me Bag to complete, which you will find in the folder.

Each student will also have a Take-Home folder and a daily Agenda. Both will go home daily to ensure
papers, graded work, and assignments get to you. Agendas will be used as a communication tool between home
and school, but we are not sending these initially. Class newsletters will be sent home each Monday, either
electronically or in the take-home folder.

I want your child to feel welcome, respected, and valued every day he/she is in my classroom. Therefore, we
will be spending lots of time establishing, discussing, modeling, and practicing rules/norms, and procedures
during the first several weeks. We will take the time to get to know each other in order to establish a strong
classroom community. I hope to create a caring learning climate for every child and build trusting relationships.

I welcome your communication at any time. Please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns. If
you would like for me to know your e-mail address, which I may use to send the weekly newsletter, please fill
out and return the bottom of this letter. When you show an interest and participate in what your child is
learning, it sends a clear message that you value education. . I look forward to an exceptional, fun-filled year!

Thank you,
Mrs. Tackett
