The program concentrates on the theory and practice of government
and politics. It has two broad purposes: first is to provide an excellent liberal education in
Political Science; and second is to prepare the students for professional career in government
service, or for careers dealing with public
issues and problems. The curriculum is designed to expose the students to a variety of program wo
rk and activities that will provide a broad understanding of the curriculum.
TPSF CULTURE
Although TPSF was founded only in the early '90s, its forerunner, the UST
Political Science Society was already existing since the '80s. Throughout the decades, the Thoma
sian political science community developed its own identity and culture, and
continues to preserve many of its time-honored traditions.
THE ANNUAL
TESTIMONIAL DINNER
Also called the annual socialization party (or 'Socia'), the annual testimonial dinner
is organized by the 3rd year TPSF members as a send-off celebration for their
graduating seniors. This tradition has been around for quite some time now,
and TPSF's Archives provide us a record of past testimonial dinners

In 1972, martial law was declared in the country and all student
organizations were abolished and banned thereon. In 1980, the UST
Political Science Society was founded, and amendments were made in
its Constitution. In the same year, a
Political Science senior, Atty. Reynaldo 'Bong' G. Lopez,
who was President of 'Pax Romana' (a religious student organization)
spearheaded the founding of the Arts and Letters Student Council,
despite the prohibitions set by the regime.
TPSF has been a factory of leaders, with its members occupying posts in
university-wide organizations such
as the Central Student Council, the Student
Organizations Coordinating Council, and the Arts and Letters Council
and its Board of Majors.
