A Meal with Pharisees

(Luke 14:111)

While Jesus was eating at the home of one of the chief

Pharisees, a man walked in with swollen arms and legs.
Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees if it was lawful to
heal on the Sabbath.
Instead of answering, the Pharisees remained silent. Jesus
then healed the man and sent him on his way.
Jesus explained to them that if one of them was invited
to a wedding feast, it would be best for him to not sit in the
highest place of honor. Because if later someone arrived
who was more honored, he would feel shame if he had to
give the person his seat and move to a lower position.
He explained that it would be better to take the lowest seat
first, and then later it was likely that they would be asked to
move to a higher position.
Whoever exalts himself will be made low, but whoever
humbles himself will be exalted.
