First round Point of view
Moderator Assalamualaikum and good morning everyone. Today,
our forums topic is Lets make a greener Earth!.
Interesting, right? But, first of all, I would like to introduce
our three fantastic panels here that willingly spend their
time to discuss with us today. From my right, this is Dr.
Sarah Saberi, a scientist that will inform to us on the
relationship between technology with environment and
beside her is a reporter from The Star that will precisely
mention to us from the society perspectives, Mr Ikhwan.
Next, on my left is Mrs. Laila which is one of active
environmental activist in Malaysian Environmental NGOs
(MENGOs) for the past half of decades in environmental
issues. So, we shall proceed to the first round and for this
round, we would like for each of the panel to share their
overall opinion on environment nowadays.Without further
ado, I would like to welcome the panel to deliver the
presentation. All right, Mrs.. The floor is yours.
Mrs. Laila First, Id like to thank moderator for giving me such a great
opportunity today to talk on Lets make a greener Earth!
So what is my opinion on environment today? Well, in the
eyes of activist like me, I feel that the Earth is at a critical
condition during the last century that have been proved
with the changes in biological and biodiversity of species in
the Earth. I want the audience to think, what is the core for
this problem? The variety of pollution made by the reckless
human that does not care with their arrogance and
selfishness became the main reason of extinction for some
species on Earth.
Dr. Sarah Environmental issue is the problems with the planets
system for example air, water and soil that have developed
as a result of human interference and mistreatment of our
planet earth. Nowadays, it can happen because of
overpopulation. Overpopulation is an undesirable condition
where the number of existing human population exceeds
the carrying capacity of Earth.

This is a never-ending human tragedy which is responsible

for causing all types of environmental issues such as
overuse of coal, oil and natural gas.

Rise in the number of vehicles and industries have badly

affected the quality of air. Rise in amount of CO2
emissions leads to global warming. Melting of polar ice
caps, changing climate patterns, rise in sea level are few
of the consequences that we might we have to face due to
environment pollution.

. Water pollution, resources crisis, gender imbalance,

pollution, and land pollution are some common examples
of dangerous effects caused by overpopulation.

Mr. Thank you moderator. A good reporter like me will need to

Ikhwan read, write, speak and listen. Today I will discuss about
our topic that is Lets make a greener Earth!. As a parent,
we will think about our son in the next generation. All
parents want their son live happy and successful. In my
opinion, there have good and bad things in next
generation. Based on my research, many people said that
in the future our next generation will live easily because
the technology is getting more sophisticated.

Based on my report, almost every day there is an issue of

the environment in the newspaper. Last year, Im busy
searching and make a report about Klang river in
Selangor. I already write about it and post in News Straits
Times. At there, pollution on water is the worse in the
Malaysia.

I can says that the next generation obesity will be increase

and the population of human will decrease. I says like that
because now we can see many restaurant in Malaysia sell
non good food. Not a balanced meal. The big issue we can
see is using gadget under age. Baby 7 years already play
with the gadget like smartphone and tablet. This is
because parent want their baby did not disturb their work.
But this give effect on babies eyes. They will have
problem that will causes they need to wear spectacle at
young age!
Second Round What can be done?
Moderator Thank you Mrs Laila for sharing your simple thought but
full of ideas for us to think more. Now, we move on to the
second round. My question is based on each of your
professions, what can be done to help the environment
nowadays?

Mr.Ikhwan What can I be done? As a reporter, I will and I should

listen to the voice of society which live at rural and urban.
After that, I can write or make a report in the newspaper,
or in social media such as blog and many more.

Other than that, I will make an issue that can give

awareness to the society. The issue such as obesity
destroy our life, Gadget blind our son and others. With
this effort, we can save our next generation life.

On my research, many societies didnt care about

environment. Why I say like this, because based on my
research about rubbish in Malaysia, in 2015, Malaysians
produce an average of 30,000 tons of waste every day.
Only 5 percent of it is recycled. Now I want you all to think
about this problem. If you care about this, you should
make a report to the authorities.

But also have society who take this serious about

environment. They make a report to the authorities but the
authorities did not care and did not take serious about this.
This is the problem about our Malaysian. We saw in
television, the background about any industry was so
beautiful and clean. But the truth is, they make a pollution!
They pollute the water with the chemical that will make fish
and anything in the water dead.

What I want to says is the authorities did not hear what

society want to says. They just ignored them and life with
their rich live. So the solution is, I will make more report in
newspaper and interview more society to open the eyes of
authorities.

Mrs. Laila Thank you. I wish to lend me your ear to understand with
my talk. I am totally disagree with Mr Ikhwans fact that
the voice of society cannot be heard by the authorities.
The authorities such as Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environment (Malaysia) have numbers of ways to deliver a
message such as a hotline phone number that can be
easily to access by visiting the portal and ist is the easiest
way as smartphones have been best friend to human as it
is carried all day long. In the world of new technology era,
nothing can stop news from being exposed especially in
term of viral in social media account. For the fact that, the
authorities cannot hear that voice of society is wrong. For
example, I am with MENGOs organization. We has our
own contact phone number, location and email address at
 our portal. Come visit our portal to check out on our
progress and do place your concern at our web page as
we can help to ease your environmental issues.

Then, back to the question. What can be done as an

activist to helps the environment today? First of all, I want
to explain what is the definition of activist. Activist is a
person who believes strongly in political or social change
and takes part in activities such as public protest to try to
make it happen. Usually as an activist, we will start with
the closest ones with us. Basically, I am educating with my
family first because they are the closest ones with me . I
am starting with educate them how to throw rubbish
properly. Is it in a normal trash bin or in a recycle bin?
Then, my family members can expose the information to
their friends and from their friend to the friends family
members. It has the same concept with network
connection. Next, everyone have a social media account
such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram , right? Especially
those who are in their teenage, they are eager to use it.
So then an activist can create an environment awareness
and spread it to my followers such as for the Earth Day on
April 22 where everyone over have to shut down their
electricity. It is an event worldwide that held to
demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Besides that, activists can do a campaign at public places
such as shopping mall and subway station to invite, create
awareness around people and to make it a top priority for
the government as they are responsible toward us. We do
agree that the government have take their action such as
make Saturday as official day for No Plastic Bag
Campaign but it does not enough. The Earth needs more
than Saturday, so we can change it into a paper bag as it
was more convenient and to decompose in short term
period than plastic. Lastly, as an educational activist that
can give speech or talk at school as it can give them a
formal education with an addition some new information
like recent and updated news about environment for them .

In conclusion, the environmental pollution is getting

increased by increasing the number of users. I hope
everyone can learn a lesson about the importance of
protecting the environment to an increasingly polluted
environment can be restored and can be kept better in the
future.
So I want to leave a question for all the audience to
think wisely. What are left for our next generations when
we are excited to destroy the environment today?

Thank you Mrs. Laila. Im totally agree what have u been
done. And from what have u explain before, I know that
you will be a famous activis for our country. But, dont
 forget that Im one of the best scientists in our country too.
For your information, almost 15 years Im study and still
make a research about our earth especially the problem
that every country need to overcome is our environment.
So, I as a scientist have make a lot of new innovation to
overcome this problem.

First, we know that nowadays mostly in the city we have

lot of excess carbon dioxide. Then, we decide to make
technology for socking away carbon dioxide. One of my
researchers friend in Iceland have come up with a
promising strategy for storing carbon dioxide underground:
Dissolve it in water and inject it into basaltic rocks. After
two years of monitoring an experimental site, theyve
discovered the approach does a remarkable job of long-
term storage, with 95 percent of the CO2 injected turning
into rock. Although the process is energy- and water-
intensive, there is hope it could play a role in reducing the
concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and
minimizing the impact of climate change on the rest of the
world.

Next, we know that our temperature will increase day by

day especially at the ocean. Therefore, we can altering
coral bacteria. This is because around the world, coral
reefs are bleaching and dying as ocean temperatures
warm beyond those tolerated by bacteria that live in
partnership with the corals. Scientists are eyeing the
option of replacing bacteria forced out by heat with other
strains more tolerant of the new temperatures either
naturally occurring or genetically engineered. Although the
practice holds promise for rescuing or resurrecting
damaged reefs, there are concerns about unintended
consequences such as introduction of disease or
disruption of ecosystems

Lastly, our new product is we make oil from just about

anything for example we make oil form turkey! Any
carbon-based waste, from turkey guts to used tires, can,
by adding sufficient heat and pressure, be turned into oil
through a process called thermo-depolymerization, This is
very similar to how nature produces oil, but with this
technology, the process is expedited by millions of years to
achieve the same byproduct. Proponents of this
technology claim that a ton of turkey waste can cough up
about 600 pounds of petroleum.

Third round - Conclusion

Dr. Sarah We can save our environment in very easy manner with
the little step taken by every person on the earth. We
should reduce the amount of waste, throwing wastes
properly to its place only, stop using poly bags, reuse
some old things in new ways, repair and use broken things
instead of throwing it away, see how much it would take to
repair them, use rechargeable batteries or renewable
alkaline batteries, make use of fluorescent light, rain water
conservation, reduce water wastage, energy conservation
and minimum use of electricity.

Mr.Ikhwan Today, we can look that our parent generation work hard
for us because they want we to live without any problem.
The conclusion, this is our earth, we live in here, if we did
not take care of it, who else? I want you all to take
something from this forum that can change your mind
about environment in next generation. So we can together
help to save our environment and make it better from now.
