Reciprocatingcompressorsarecharacterizedwithhigherpressuresandreducedmassflowrate.
Theyaremainlyusedinhighpressureapplicationssinceitcandeliverairatabout3040bar.
1)Fordieselenginestarting,whereelectricmotorstartingbecomescostlyandimpractical.

How to measure clearance volume

TheclearancebetweenpistonandcylinderheadwhilepistonatTDCiscalledbumpingclearance.

Why cooling is required?

Reciprocatingcompressorsaregenerallycooledwithairorwater.Thecylindersinaircooled

Inwatercooledcompressors,freshwateriscirculatedthroughjacketsthatarebuiltintothewallsof

Thecompressioncycleisillustratedgraphicallydownbelow.
