Familiarization with Power System Analysis

Framework (PSAF)
Objectives: To familiarize with Power System Analysis Framework (PSAF)

Introduction:
The Power Systems Analysis Framework (PSAF) is a suite of modular analysis programs with a
common database and network editing facility. The suite includes programs for Load Flow,
Short Circuit, Harmonic and Transient Stability analyses of electrical networks. The highly
interactive graphical interface makes it easy to draw the network One-Line Diagram on the
screen and define the parameters of its components. Additions, deletions and modifications are
easily made during the process of creating the network. At any time, you may display (and edit)
the data pertinent to any component on the screen by clicking with the mouse. You may even
have the One-Line Diagram drawn automatically for you as you connect components together.
As an alternative to the graphic method of entering the network description, PSAF allows you to
enter data in tables. In this case, the One-Line Diagram is drawn automatically as you work. You
may choose which One-Line information is displayed on the screen while you work. A large
selection of information items may be displayed continuously, or hidden, at your option. Full
"zoom" capability is available, and by opening a second viewing window, it is possible to zoom
in on the work area, while viewing the whole diagram in the other window.

N.B: Calculation results may be not displayed on the screen for specified components due to the
demo version of the software.

How to Install the PSAF in windows:

Follow the general steps and input the password if needed which is given in .txt file inside the
provided software file.

How to start:
1. Click start > all programs/ programs> CYME > PSAF > PSAF 2.81 or simple click on
the desktop PSAF 2.81.
2. Click the demon of the dialogue box

3. Go to the file and click on the New Study, select the show one-line
diagram, select the creating a new network, select the initial
configuration (Default 1 bus) of the system network.
4. General Equip.(General Equipments) are shown in left side of the
window i.e. Bus, Generator, Static var Compensator, Motor, Shunt
Reactor, Static Load, Line, Shunt Capacitor, Switch, Bus Tie,
Transformer etc .
5. To select and connect desired equipment, hold the desired equipment and
place it where u need to connect.
6. On that time a dialogue box opens up where the parameter of the
selected equipment shows and it can be changed also. In case of
generator the rating of the generator with terminal voltage can be
changed by generator database dialog (Accesses DB). Here also, Real,
Reactive, Apparent with Power Factor can be changed in different value
of (R & X) in different conditions of transient, sub transient and steady
sate.

Lets try the given network and try to find the ratings, real, reactive power
with total current and power factor.
