Version 1.2
20247D: Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud 1
You can configure virtual machines to communicate with the host computer, other virtual
machines on the same host computer, other host computers, virtual machines on other
host computers, other physical computers on the network, or any combination thereof.
The setup instructions that you will follow as part of this classroom setup guide configure
Hyper-V and the Virtual Machines that run on the host. Changing any of the
configuration settings may render the labs for this learning product unusable.
Setup Overview
The host computers must be set up with a 64 bit version of Windows Server 2012 and
must be running on 64 bit hardware. For more information on the supported hardware for
Hyper-V, please see the follow web site: http://www.microsoft.com/hyper-v. For the
purposes of this learning product, two host computers assigned to each student are able to
communicate with each other, but they must not be able to communicate with other host
computers on the network. To make it easier to copy the course files during setup, you
can connect all the computers to the same network, but the two host computers assigned
to each user must be isolated before completing the classroom setup. You should note the
administrators user name and password for the host computers and provide this
information to the instructor.
Classroom Requirements
This learning product requires a classroom with a minimum of two computers for the
instructor and two for each student. Before class begins, use the following information
and instructions to install and configure all computers.
Hardware
The classroom computers require the following hardware and software configuration.
Hardware Level 7 (Please note the change to the drive configuration for this course)
64 bit Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V)
processor (2.8 Ghz dual core or better recommended)
Note: The two host machines provided for the instructor and each student must
use the same processor architecture. Both host machines must be running either
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) processor,
you cannot use one host machine with each processor architecture.
Two 500 GB hard disks 7200 RPM SATA or faster. Each must be configured as a
separate drive labeled Drive C and Drive D.
16 GB RAM or higher
DVD drive
20247D: Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud 3
Network adapter
Dual SVGA monitors 17 or larger supporting 1440X900 minimum resolution
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Sound card with amplified speakers
In addition, the instructor computer must be connected to a projection display device that
supports SVGA 1024 x 768 pixels, 16 bit colors.
Note: The projection display device needs to be attached to the instructors Host1
computer only.
Note: The network adapters on the Virtual Machines have been configured with a
Jumbo Frame setting of 9KB. During the setup you also configure both network
adapters on each host with the same settings. This is to improve performance in
the lab. For this reason it is important that any Network Switches used in the
classroom support Jumbo Frames. If not, you will experience network
communication issues between the hosts and guest Operating Systems. If Network
Switches with Jumbo Frame support cannot be used then you must disable the
Jumbo Frame setting on all network adapters on both hosts and all virtual
machines.
Software
Please note that, unless otherwise indicated, this software is not included in the Trainer
Materials disc. This learning product was developed and tested on supported Microsoft
software, which is required for the classroom computers.
Also required, but not included in the Training Materials: Microsoft Office PowerPoint
2007 (instructor computer only).
Classroom Configuration
This course requires two host computers for the instructor and for each student. The two
computers for each person must have network connectivity with each other, but must not
be able to communicate with other computers on the network.
The two host computers will be configured to run Hyper-V as part of the classroom
installation, or as part of the student labs. Each host computer will also host several
virtual machines. This classroom setup guide describes how to complete the classroom
setup for both host machines.
4 20247D: Configuring and Deploying a Private Cloud
Important: The two host computers are not configured identically. As you complete
the classroom setup, ensure that you are performing the setup steps on the
appropriate host computer.
Important: The operating systems installed on the virtual machines in this learning
product have not been activated. Rearm has been run at the end of development,
and the OS in the virtual machine will be in a grace state.
This grace state lasts for 30 days for the client and 60 days for the server. If you
keep these virtual machines running longer than this, you will either have to run
rearm or activate the virtual machines using your own keys.
If the operating system has not retained this state, you may have time to run the
class before activation is required. Otherwise you can rearm the operating system
by running slmgr rearm at the Administrative command prompt. If no additional
rearms are available, then the virtual machine will go in to notification mode but
will still provide full functionality. You will just have to close the initial messages
about activation.
You may be prompted to restart the computer when the VM is started for the first
time. This is because of the hardware differences on the Host computer.
Important: The following step should be completed on the Host1 computer only.
Important: The following steps should be completed on the Host2 computer only.
Important: The following steps should be completed on the Host1 computer only.
Important: The following steps should be completed on the Host2 computer only.
Note: After completing the extraction of all of the classroom files, you should have
the following files installed on Host1:
File In Folder
Base11A-WS08R2SP1.vhd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Learning\Base
File In Folder
D:\Program Files\Microsoft Learning\20247\drives
20247D-LON-WEB.vhd
\20247D-LON-WEB\Virtual Hard Disks
Note: After completing the extraction of all of the classroom files, you should have
the following files installed on Host2:
File In Folder

The virtual machines were developed using the English (United States) layout shown
below.
If your physical keyboard doesnt match the above layout, you may need to refer to the
above layout for the character positions used to logon. For future logons and usage
throughout the labs, you may want to install your keyboard layout in the virtual machine.
