Hypothesis

In conducting some research about the effects of climate change in the La Mesa Dam, the
researchers formulated these hypotheses.

Excessive drought can decrease the amount of water that a hydrologic structure receives
and by this event many sectors will suffer. Excessive rainfall can alter the design of a
hydrologic structure and it can damage the structure.

According to Climate Change and Dams:

Eastern%20Africa_Presentation3_Mabakofeng%20Mahahabisa.pdf

Climate Change is altering hydrological cycles meaning that historic data may no longer be
a reliable predictor of future hydrological pattern.

The dams that were designed for climate change of their time are ill-prepared for rapid
shifts in river flows and precipitation

Engineers design dams based on historic records without consideration of the future
climate projections.

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The main focal point of this research was the effects of climate change in La Mesa Dam.
The researcher will use data gathering in analyzing the research and to know the different
effects of climate change in the dam. The research will only focus on La Mesa Dam and the
effects of climate change to the dam and how long the dam will be efficient for consumption
regarding to the effects of climate change. The research can be used by any individual who
is interested with the research or for those individual who in need in this kind of research.
Some data gathered, assumptions were made as a consideration for this research.

Significance of the Study

The research of effects of climate change in La Mesa Dam can be used by the experts as a
basis of redesigning the dam or improving the dam. It can be used as a related literature for
students who were working in their respective research paper. By knowing the effects of
climate change in La Mesa Dam the authorities can acquire solutions to fixed or alleviate
the problem. By knowing the how long the efficiency of the will last, the authorities can look
for alternatives or improvements in order the consumers will not be affected with the said
problem. This research served as a training ground of the researchers for their upcoming
thesis.

Reservoir - a usually artificial lake that is used to store a large supply of water for use in
people's homes, in businesses, etc. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/reservoir

La Mesa Dam - is an earth dam whose reservoir can hold up to 50.5 million cubic meters
and occupying an area of 27 square kilometers in Quezon City, Philippines. It was built in
1929 under the supervision of the construction firm Pedro Siochi and Company. It is part of
the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system, which supplies most of the water supply of Metro
Manila. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Mesa_Dam_and_Reservoir

Rainfall Rate - is a measure of the intensity of rainfall. It is measured by calculating the

amount of rain that falls to the earth surface per unit area per unit of time.

PAG-ASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration)

- is the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) agency of the Republic
of the Philippines mandated to provide protection against natural calamities and to insure
the safety, well-being and economic security of all the people, and for the promotion of
national progress by undertaking scientific and technological services.
