Lakeside Park in Nelson on Saturday, August 26th, from 10 am
to 10 pm, for a festival full of music, fun, and dancing! This year,
Keep the Beat features twelve amazing artists, including names
such as Peach Pit, Hello Moth, and Adam Shaikh, among others.
Keep the Beat is a fundraiser for War Child Canada. War
Child is an international non-profit humanitarian organiza-
tion whose mission is to help children in war affected com-
munities reclaim their childhood through access to education,
opportunity, and justice.
All proceeds from Keep the Beat go directly to War Child
Canadas many initiatives in countries including Uganda, Af-
ghanistan, South Sudan and Jordan, raising funds through
personal donations, a silent auction, grants, and pledges.
Along with raising over $150,000 since it began, Keep the Beat
also provides positive community growth and student volun-
teer opportunities, all while bringing the city together for a day
of music, dancing and family fun!

iDIDaRide & Run a success!
The results are in iDIDaRide & Run was a hit! The races took
place on Saturday, August 12th in beautiful Kaslo (although a
tad smokey). The event consisted of three mountain bike races:
40km, 20km and 8km and two running races: 20km and 8km.
Over 100 people registered to either ride or run on these
world-class, single track, mountain trails. A whole lot of mem-
ories were made. Participants included numerous families, the
youngest participant was 6, and the oldest, 71! From the great
turnout, we had 40% locals and 60% from other parts of BC,
Alberta and the US... Western Canada was well represented!
It took a great team to ensure everything ran smoothly, our
key organizers were:

ple - Planning, Trails and Maintenance; Marie-Ange Fourni-
er-Beck - Permissions & Emergency Plan; Fiona Anderson

Last MarketFest of 2017
MarketFest will once again, and for the last time this year,
be back on Baker Street in Nelson this August 25th from 6:00
pm until 10:30 pm. This is a rain or shine event but with luck
the weather will be warm, the skies will be clear and the music
will fill the streets. The August MarketFest musical line-up,
which takes place on the Falls St. Stage will include In the
Sticks Drum Dance, Phantom Power and Brian Rosen & the
WhatNow. A big thank you goes out to The Savoy Hotel for
taking over the operations of the Falls Street Stage again this
year. On the Stanley St. Stage, which is hosted by Blue Night
Nelson, there will be great dance music, live painting, bubbles
play for the kids and much more. The Moving Mosaic Samba
Band will kick off the festivities around 6 pm.
EcoSocietys Markets and events director, Jesse R. Wood-
ward, is once again working with vendors, business owners,
and city agencies to ensure that the August 25th MarketFest is
a success. The July MarketFest event was very popular with
thousands of people joining in the celebrations he said. I
really enjoy seeing the Nelson community and out of town
visitors coming down to Baker St. and taking it all in. People
love it when you close the street and have a party. MarketFest
attendees, as always, will have a fantastic variety of products
to chose from including hand-made hats and pottery, locally
made clothing and jewellery, an array of body and home decor
products and, of course, lots and lots of different and delicious
ready-to-eat foods.
MarketFest will have a food court area on and around Koo-
tenay Street which makes it very easy for festival goers to find
and choose from the wide selection of ready-to-eat foods that
will be on hand. What better way to spend a warm summer
evening than eating scrumptious fresh foods, shopping for
locally made goods and listening to wonderful live music. Re-
member to bring reusable containers for drinks and food so
that we can keep the garbage down to a minimum.
