U.S. Asks U.N. To Bury Blacklist Of Companies Doing Business in Israeli Settlements

1.U.N. Human rights council in March 2016 constituted a blacklist of companies that were doing
business in Israeli settlements. Among them were Caterpillar, TripAdvisor, Priceline.com and Airbnb.

a. First. What has to do UN with this list of companies? What is its involvement?

b. Why are these companies supposed to be on a blacklist?

The human rights council has no power to sanction any of the companies on the list, but other U.N.
committees could use the list to do so.

So there are more committees that have attributions in this sector.

What does it mean that a company works in settlements?

It means that it works as a subsidiary. In this article it is about companies that work in Israelis
settlements, namely under Israel cooperation and support.

But the former UN Special Rapporteur Richard Falk says that these settlements are illegally built in the
occupied Palestinian territories. This is prompted by a movement called Boycott, Divestment and
Sanctions (BDS). The Jews on the other hand argue that the publication of the list by UN would violate
the UNHRCs own guidelines against discrimination based on national origin.

What conclusions can be drawn from this?

1. The Jewish try to use the minority argument against a legal state of facts. Trump appears to be
on the same side to these problems, that is because it has interest in this situation since
American based companies have some settlements in the Eastern Jerusalim.
2. The Palestinians are attacking frontal the Israel Economy. Many of the companies built up
intentionally there, under the auspices of Israel Government in defiance of the Jordanian
government. But these companies would have a lot to suffer from a release, in public image and
would imply falls in the stock prices of the implicated companies.
3. Why was this so far secret? Isnt obvious for the local people that the settlements were there?
Why this has to be published by UN and wasnt already released by smaller organisations or
even private people? Why has this to go so far and up to UN?
4. From the last question of 3, it means it is a transnational business and possibly military problem
concerning branches into many areas since it has to go so far.
5. For the last question of 3 are 2 possible answers: a) It is kept very secret and has ties with US
and Israelian secret services; b) this is just a bluff of the Palestinians to attack and hurt their
main enemy and its allies henceforth his enemies: US and UK. We are going on the axiological
rule, an enemy of my enemy is my friend and a friend of my enemy is most likely another
enemy. This rules out the possibility of mediation.
6. We have to go further. Who is BDS? I will search for them later. It seems that BDS has channels
to UN somehow.
7. From the Jews argument, anything is possible if it does not come into contradiction with the
Anti-discrimination policies.
